The Willingness to Pay for Non-Alcoholic Beer: A Survey on the Sociodemographic Factors and Consumption Behavior of Italian Consumers

    No full text
The Italian market for non-alcoholic beer is very small, with a volume per capita of around 0.7 L. However, there are interesting prospects for future growth for reasons ranging from strict traffic code rules on the quantity of alcohol ingested to simple curiosity. This research aimed to investigate the willingness of Italian consumers/potential consumers to pay for non-alcoholic beer. To accomplish this, a questionnaire was administered using the Google Forms application. Three hundred and ninety-two people participated in this survey voluntarily and without monetary compensation. A probit regression model was used to estimate the impact of certain sociodemographic characteristics (number of inhabitants of the place of residence, region of residence, age group, gender, education level, employment situation, and annual net income), participants’ consumption habits with respect to alcoholic beer, and participants’ knowledge of and preference for non-alcoholic beers with respect to willingness to pay for non-alcoholic beers. The prices respondents were willing to pay ranged from EUR 1.51 to 2.00 for a 33 cL glass bottle. Only two factors significantly affected (p < 0.1) non-alcoholic beer WTP, namely, “Age” and “Non-alcoholic beer color”. WTP decreased as the age of the respondents increased and was higher for the darker beer

Psychosocial interventions in bipolar disorders: A guidelines’ review

    No full text
Introduction: Psychosocial interventions are essential in the treatment of severe mental disorders, including Bipolar Disorder. These interventions aim to enhance patients’ psychopathology, alongside pharmacological treatments, while also improving personal functioning and quality of life. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive review of available international guidelines concerning the treatment of Bipolar Disorder, specifically examining their recommendations on the efficacy and implementation of psychosocial interventions across different phases of the illness. The guidelines included in our review were from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN), the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT), the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD), the British Association for Psychopharmacology (BAP), Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP 2022), and the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP). Results: The international guidelines endorse psychosocial interventions as supportive treatments in conjunction with pharmaceutical or psychotherapeutic approaches for Bipolar Disorder. Conclusions: Further research is needed to validate the suggested effectiveness of psychosocial interventions on the long-term outcomes of Bipolar Disorder

In tema di impugnazione delle ordinanze cautelari (ri)adottate in appello

    No full text

Rescue of lysosomal acid lipase deficiency in mice by rAAV8 liver gene transfer

    No full text
Background: Lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LAL-D) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the LIPA gene, which results in lipid accumulation leading to multi-organ failure. If left untreated, the severe form of LAL-D results in premature death within the first year of life due to failure to thrive and hepatic insufficiency. Weekly systemic injections of recombinant LAL protein, referred as enzyme replacement therapy, is the only available supportive treatment. Method: Here, we characterized a novel Lipa−/− mouse model and developed a curative gene therapy treatment based on the in vivo administration of recombinant (r)AAV8 vector encoding the human LIPA transgene under the control of a hepatocyte-specific promoter. Results: Here we define the minimal rAAV8 dose required to rescue disease lethality and to correct cholesterol and triglyceride accumulation in multiple organs and blood. Finally, using liver transcriptomic and biochemical analysis, we show mitochondrial impairment in Lipa−/− mice and its recovery by gene therapy. Conclusions: Overall, our in vivo gene therapy strategy achieves a stable long-term LAL expression sufficient to correct the disease phenotype in the Lipa−/− mouse model and offers a new therapeutic option for LAL-D patients
