Editorial: Urban carbon emissions and anthropogenic activities
The following ten scientific articles have provided robust, data-driven insights into how China can achieve its “dual carbon” goals (carbon peak and neutrality).
They highlight that:
• Digital infrastructure, green innovation, and policy experimentation are critical drivers.
• Policies must be regionally differentiated and technology-driven.
• Effective climate action depends on multi-level coordination, integrating local, regional, and national strategies.
In summary, these studies suggest that China’s environmental transition must be smart, digital, inclusive, and tailored to local contexts, leveraging both market-based tools and technological advancement to build a sustainable future
Real-world effectiveness of mepolizumab in asthma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Objective: Exacerbations and suboptimal disease control are common in severe asthma with an eosinophilic phenotype (SAep). Mepolizumab, an anti-interleukin-5 monoclonal antibody, has demonstrated efficacy and safety in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). We aimed to strengthen the real-world evidence base for mepolizumab in SAep. Methods: We analyzed data from Italian participants of REALITI-A, a global, real-world, prospective, observational study (primary outcome: rate of clinically significant exacerbations [CSEs]). Using these data and those from Italian real-world studies of mepolizumab (identified by systematic literature review), we performed a meta-analysis. Results: In the Italian cohort of REALITI-A (n = 244), mean CSE rate was lower 12 months post-mepolizumab initiation versus 12 months pre-mepolizumab (0.67 vs. 3.74 CSEs/patient/year; relative risk [RR], 0.18; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.15–0.22; p <.001). The meta-analysis included 863 patients. Mean CSE rate decreased from 4.2/patient/year at baseline to 0.71/patient/year post-mepolizumab initiation. Mean oral corticosteroid (OCS) dose reduced by 8.66 mg/day (95% CI, 6.17–11.16 mg/day; p <.0001) from baseline (10.0 mg/day). The RR for OCS maintenance, post- versus pre-mepolizumab, was 0.37 (95% CI, 0.27–0.52; p <.0001). A mean increase in Asthma Control Test score of 6.50 (95% CI, 5.67–7.33; p <.00001) was observed. Proportions of patients reporting adverse events were low. Conclusions: Real-world experience in this unified health care system identifies that mepolizumab has a low adverse event rate and provides consistent clinical benefits. Mepolizumab represents an important treatment option for patients with SAep
Factors contributing to treatment non-compliance in a large sample of psychiatric patients in Turkey
Objective: This study aims to investigate the determinants of treatment non-compliance among psychiatric patients by exploring related factors. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study including patients hospitalized for psychiatric disorders and aged between 25 and 70 years in Istanbul, Turkey. 1648 patients were approached and 1310 (79.5 %) agreed to participate. A set of sociodemographic and clinical variables were collected as well as the Turkish Version of the 9-item Patient-Doctor Relationship Questionnaire (PDRQ-9) was administered. Statistical analyses included t-tests, chi-square tests, factor analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and computation of the Lorenz curve and Gini index. Results: Of 1310 patients, 761 (58.1 %) were compliant with treatments while 549 (41.9 %) were considered as non-compliant. Patients aged above 60 years were significantly less represented in the compliant group of patients (p = 0.008). Non-compliant patients were more like to be obese (p = 0.046), cigarette smokers (p = 0.019), nargileh-hookah users (p = 0.037), and perform less physical exercise (p = 0.044). Patients diagnosed with schizophrenia (p = 0.034), bipolar disorder (p = 0.016), depression (p = 0.008), obsessive-compulsive disorder (p = 0.015) and dementia/Alzheimer's disease (p = 0.003) were more likely to be compliant with treatments whereas patients affected by stress or post-traumatic stress disorder were significantly less complaint (p = 0.015 and p = 0.006, respectively). The main factors contributing to non-compliance included lack of social supervision and family support (p < 0.001), not regular attendance of the mental health services (p = 0.016), lack of insight towards treatments (p = 0.0124), lack of satisfaction with the doctor (p = 0.021), lack of education regarding medications side effects (p < 0.001), and poor perceived improvement with treatment (p = 0.005). Concurrently, the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses confirmed validity and psychometric characteristics of the Turkish version of the 9-item Patient-Doctor Relationship Questionnaire (PDRQ-9). Conclusion: This study reported a high prevalence rate of non-compliance among psychiatric patients. An empathetic patient-doctor approach, shared decision making as well as socially supportive and psychoeducational interventions are potentially useful for improving patients’ attitudes toward treatments and their compliance

The overview effect and patient care in psychiatry
Summary The 'overview effect' was described by astronauts who saw the earth from space and found this gave them a very different perspective. This effect is a shift in worldview, and it has been suggested that politicians be sent to space to change their narrow perspectives. In a similar vein, it is crucial that psychiatrists have an overview of their patients so that their perspectives on patient care enable them to deal with the patient from different angles. In this editorial, the overview effect is described in the context of clinical care
Museum Education Meets Digital Technologies: Impacts on Teaching and Teacher Training
This paper analyses the impact of digitalisation on education, with a focus on teacher training and the integration of emerging technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) and NFC technology, in museum education. These innovative tools offer the potential to transform learning, making it more interactive and engaging. However, their implementation requires a review of teaching strategies, privileging experiential and student-centred approaches. Despite their great potential, the adoption of these technologies is held back by significant challenges, including economic limitations, cultural resistance to change and deficiencies in the specific training of teachers and educators. To address these critical issues, the importance of promoting advanced digital skills, including the conscious use of technological tools and the ability to design meaningful and targeted learning experiences, emerges. The study adopts a cross-sectional exploratory survey that was conducted to examine attitudes and beliefs of support teachers in training regarding the role of educational technologies in the development of museum education. The research question aims to identify a direction to follow to investigate students’ needs and improve teachers’ attitudes, favoring the development of teaching more responsive to emerging needs. The analysis of the collected data allows to identify key themes, critical factors and obstacles in the adoption of emerging technologies. In conclusion, the paper describe the point of view of the participants about the integration of digital technologies that can increase pedagogical effectiveness and student engagement, but to fully realize this potential, continuous support, adequate resources and specific and targeted training are necessary
The interplay between childhood trauma, hopelessness, depressive symptoms, and mental pain in a large sample of patients with severe mental disorders: A network analysis
Background: Mental pain represents a significant risk factor for suicidal behavior in severe mental disorders. The present study aims to investigate the interplay between childhood traumatic experiences, hopelessness, depressive symptoms and mental pain, using a network analysis approach in a large transdiagnostic sample of participants living in the community. Methods: The present investigation was conducted using data gathered in a multicentric observational cross-section study organized as a joint project, including different Italian research and clinical settings. Considering the assessment tools adopted in the study, 12 different variables were included as nodes in the EBICglasso network analysis. Stability of the edges and of centrality indices were assessed using bootstrap procedures, considering case-dropping and node-dropping procedures. Results: A total of 2147 participants were included in the analysis. Mental pain represents a central feature in a complex network of relationships, including traumatic experiences, hopelessness, and depressive symptoms. More in deatail, mental pain and, to a lesser extent, affective and cognitive depressive symptoms emerged as the most central and influential nodes of the network, highlighting the strong link existing between these aspects and their importance in the lives of people with mental disorders. Conclusions: Results confirm the importance of mental pain as a transdiagnostic feature, requiring careful assessment and consideration in all patients, beyond the diagnostic categories and regardless of suicide risk. Assessing and managing the presence and severity of mental pain should be taken into account in clinical practice, in the perspective of providing significant clinical benefits, as well as relevant research insight
