Collaborative social innovation in shared spaces. A multiple case study from the perspective of religious organizations
In this study we investigate collaborative social innovation from a nonprofit sector perspective. More specifically, we explore how religious organizations, and their volunteers collaborate across organizational boundaries for social innovation, involving religious, public and for-profit organizations. For the emergence of multi-actor collaborations for social innovation, we find that interorganizational shared spaces facilitate the emergence – strategic and serendipitous – of shared ambitions, ideas and initiatives. Substantial impacts of such collaborations were found, in terms of learning, synergy, and commitment. Moreover, such processes led to renewed and expanded voluntary work.publishedVersio
Christian communities and intimate partner violence in sub-Saharan Africa: A scoping review
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a growing development concern affecting women globally including sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). However, knowledge of the involvement of Christian faith communities with IPV and their work on the empowerment of survivors of IPV in SSA is currently vague. The aim of this scoping study was to provide an overview of documented studies conducted in this area as well as identify possible gaps for empirical research. The authors employed a six-step strategy for scoping studies. The search strategies involved electronic searches in nine databases and academic search engines between 11 September 2021 to 23 January 2024. Manual searches in bibliographies were also carried out for grey literature, and one additional study was recommended by stakeholders in consultation with them. The selected studies were analysed for themes and patterns in relation to the research questions and aims. Findings indicate a growing interest in this field of research over the past few years. However, there is inadequate representative knowledge of IPV in SSA and how Christian faith communities deal with it. It is also striking that colonialism and post-colonialism are hardly mentioned in the reviewed research work. From the analysis, it is obvious that faith communities and faith leaders have the potential to fight IPV.publishedVersio
Forskningsprosjektet har tatt utgangspunkt i to hovedspørsmål:
Photovoice and citizenship for people with intellectualdisabilities. Aesthetic affectedness in the encounter betweenaudience, text and photographer
Is it time to address burnout in the military? Initial psychometric validation of the Maslach Burnout Inventory among tunisian military personnel (A-MBI-MP)
The military’s high-pressure environment can lead to burnout syndrome, characterized by emotional fatigue, depersonalization, and decreased personal accomplishment. Validating a culturally appropriate tool for assessing burnout among military personnel is crucial for early detection and intervention. This study assessed the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and its validity among Tunisian military personnel. A validation study was conducted among 520 Tunisian military personnel (mean age = 36 ± 9.3 years; male (n = 486) and female (n = 34)), including commandos, pilots, and divers. The Arabic version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory MBI-HSS was administered, including participants’ sociodemographic characteristics. The exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analyses were performed to identify the factor structure, with assessments of the internal consistency of the model. The factor analysis confirmed the three-factor model of burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment consistent with the original MBI. The A-MBI-MP demonstrated strong internal consistency, with Cronbach’s alpha values exceeding 0.8 for all subscales. The test–retest reliability was also excellent, confirming the stability of the instrument. The CFA validated the three-factor structure of the A-MBI-MP. The fit indices demonstrated an acceptable model fit: Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.949, Tucker–Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.943, and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) = 0.0742 (95% CI: 0.068–0.0797). These results validate the reliability of the A-MBI-MP in assessing burnout in the military context. The Arabic version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (A-MBI-MP) is a valid and reliable tool for assessing burnout among Tunisian military personnel. The validated instrument can be used to offer early treatments and to promote the mental health of military personnel in high-stress situations.publishedVersio
A mixed-methods evaluation of long-term outcomes after trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy for children subjected to family violence
Objective: Exposure to family violence in childhood significantly increases the risk of developing severe psychiatric and physiological illnesses. Trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (TF-CBT) effectively addresses trauma-related symptoms and improves overall well-being. However, knowledge of the persistence of these positive effects over time, facilitating factors, and why some children are not benefited remains limited. Furthermore, little attention has been paid to exploring children’s subjective experiences. This study aimed to investigate long-term changes in trauma-related symptoms among children and youths who underwent TF-CBT due to family violence. Nine participants (M age = 16,6 years, range = 14–23; 7 girls and 2 boys) were assessed and interviewed four to five years after TF-CBT treatment.
Methods: The study adopted a mixed-method approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative methods.
Results: While most participants still reported being affected by the violence, most had benefited from treatment, with improvements lasting over the years. However, for those who did not report decreased symptoms, trauma symptoms persisted, accompanied by additional severe mental health problems.
Conclusions: The findings underscore the importance of providing effective trauma-focused treatments such as TF-CBT and highlight the need for enhanced safety measures and parental interventions for children who do not benefit from treatment.publishedVersio
Kompetansebehov hos ledere i en helsesektor i endring. Rapport
Children’s opportunities and rights for mobility and participation: Occupational therapists’ experiences with paediatric powered mobility
Background: Mobility is a human right and play a key role for children’s development and participation. Children with limited independent mobility do not have the same opportunities to explore their surroundings and interact in play. Research has shown that powered mobility can enable independent mobility for children as young as 12 months.
Aims/objectives: To explore occupational therapists experience with powered mobility for children under three years of age.
Material and method: Data was collected through three focus groups. A total of ten occupational therapists from ten different municipalities in Norway participated in the study. Systematic Text Condensation by Malterud was used as a method for analysing data.
Results: Five main themes were identified: (1) The child’s prerequisites for powered mobility, (2)Introducing powered mobility requires different considerations within each family, (3) Environmental considerations for enhancing powered mobility for children, (4) Powered mobility promotes self-determination and new roles, (5) Powered mobility promotes increased participation in expanded play activities.
Conclusions and significance: Powered mobility is a complex process that must consider the child’s abilities, family context, and environment. Emphasis should be placed on fostering a supportive social environment and adapting the physical environment to enable self-initiated mobility, empowerment and occupational justice.publishedVersio
“I know more who I am!” International nursing students’ experience of study exchange to Norway: A qualitative study
International student exchange has been enhanced by higher educational institutions, national governments and policy documents for the last two decades. Nevertheless, there is limited knowledge and research regarding nursing students’ experiences of going on study exchange to non-English countries like Norway. The study aimed to explore international nursing students’ experiences when studying abroad in a Norwegian Bachelor of Nursing program. The study used an interpretative qualitative design. Ten nursing students from Australia and the Netherlands participated in two focus groups, and provided their motivation letter, written prior to their exchange. The study followed the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research (SRQR) checklist. The findings suggest that the students had several motives and expectations for studying abroad that went beyond nursing skills and competence. It was also of great importance to prepare for the exchange at multiple levels. Another important element central to the students’ development was their relations with the other international students. Their experiences in daily life and their participation in the courses that they took on campus were interconnected and contributed to both personal growth and professional development.publishedVersio
Personal assistance services and sexual health in Norway—a cross-sectional study of disabled people’s experiences and attitudes regarding sexuality and personal assistants
Many disabled people cannot live out their sexuality or exercise their sexual citizenship without assistance. There is a lack of knowledge concerning experiences and needs related to personal assistance to live out one’s sexuality and how to support sexual citizenship when living with a disability and receiving personal assistance services in the Norwegian context. This study presents the experiences and attitudes of disabled people in Norway concerning personal assistance services and sexual citizenship. A cross-sectional quantitative survey was answered by 67 disabled people living with personal assistance services. The results show that 67.1% of the respondents would rather avoid sexual activity than receive assistance with these activities, 50% found it uncomfortable to talk about sexual health, and 76% feared that conversations about sexual health would make the personal assistant uncomfortable. Service providers and municipalities should acknowledge the sexual needs of disabled people and organize services to meet these needs without personal assistants feeling uncomfortable or exploited.publishedVersio
