Exploring the consequences of emotional data
No full textThe project investigates how accurate emotional data would impact individuals and society. We ask the question: “how can we prepare future designers to use emotional data as a material?”
Our learnings from developing exploratory concepts are summarized in a set of principles for using emotional data, presented on a website.
The principles are meant to inform future work using emotional data as a material, and are designed to be actionable, and written in a way that makes actors who claim to follow them accountable.
Each principle is joined by “practices”; examples from concept work meant to further examplify how the principles can impact a project. The website will evolve in tandem with the technology developing, and when the technology eventually exists, take on a more reviewing role, looking at how real world examples apply accurate emotional data.
Experiential trial: ”Emotional facts robot”
Our approach in this project has been that going deep into different contexts will offer more valuable insight on future technology, than a purely system level approach. We made three exploratory concepts: A mental health app, content recommendation, and targeted ads, as well as a number of experiential trials.

With an opportunistic, yet issue-oriented outlook, it took on primary education, where digital devices have become a major part of students' day-to-day lives.

What Matters More?
Get PDFWhat Matters More, a service design project exploring the Norwegian asylum system. The asylum system can be a polarising topic. The eternal debate on how to treat refugees in Norway, and what resources should be used to ensure the protection of their human rights and humanitarian needs, is constantly being discussed by politicians as well as civilians.
The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration is responsible for everyone applying for asylum in Norway. They say that the service should be offered in a responsible and justifiable way. But through media, stories regularly emerge about situations, environment, facilities etc. that do not meet the minimum requirements for justifiable conditions. The goal of this project has been to improve the experience of applying for asylum in Norway.
Through research, ideating and development, the focus of the project was put on asylum reception centers, more specifically voluntary work in asylum reception centers. The voluntary work that takes place at asylum reception centers today has great value for everyone involved. It consists of e.g. language courses, food festivals and game nights etc.
Nevertheless, it turns out that the asylum system is closed off and difficult to get into. Therefore, many opportunities, resources and plans are wasted. There are people and organizations who so desperately want to contribute with a service, but have no idea where to begin. Even if they know where to begin, there are many steps before you can initiate the project, since the system is not designed to be open to the public.
The solution proposal in this project is called Handlingsrom (Room for Action) and is a service belonging to the UDI that will make it easier for the UDI to facilitate, and actively follow up, voluntary work in the asylum reception centers, and the impact it has on the residents’ everyday lives.
Handlingsrom will be a space to collect and share information and inspiration. A space for interaction between organisations, actors and regions. It’s also a space where people can get involved in the work. It will replace the endless chaos of actively looking up opportunities and the endless chaos of information regarding voluntary work in reception centers.
The service will make it easier for UDI to facilitate voluntary work in the reception centers, as well as actively follow up agreements and offers that are given to residents. In this way, UDI has an opportunity to improve the lives of the residents without needing a much larger budget or more resources than they already have.
Handlingsrom will make information accessible to everyone who seeks out information about voluntary work in asylum reception centers. The residents, the reception operators, NGOs and the civil society.submittedVersio

OmSorg er et tjenestedesignprosjekt som utforsker forebygging av fødselsdepresjon. Hvert år rammes mellom 9 500 og 35 000 foreldre i Norge av depressive symptomer i forbindelse med svangerskap eller barsel. Tall hentet fra Storbritannia viser at 1 av 5 dødsfall i spedbarnsperioden skyldes selvmord. Det er dermed én av de vanligste og alvorligste komplikasjonene en kan få før eller etter fødsel.
Gjennom prosjektet har vi snakket med 20 mødre, 3 partnere, 16 helsepersonell og flere foreninger og organisasjoner. Gjennom disse har vi fått en bred forståelse for situasjonen til dem som opplever en fødselsdepresjon. Vi så at kvinnene hadde hatt flere varseltegn på en påbegynnende depresjon tidlig i forløpet. Dette gjorde at de ofte skulle ønske de bare hadde snakket om problemene sine litt før, eller at helsepersonell hadde tatt de på alvor litt tidligere. I tillegg hadde de ulike, og like, grunner til at dette ikke hadde skjedd. Disse grunnene sorterte vi i barrierer som kunne forklare hvorfor så mange hadde en historie hvor en “normal” utfordring som måtte eskalere til en stort mørkt hull før de fikk hjelp. Gjennom disse barrierene har vi satt ord på hvordan fødselsdepresjon kan oppleves, og belyst hvilke barrierer som forhindrer at det oppdages.
Dette har resultert i tjenesten Omsorg, en utvidelse av dagens offentlige helsetilbud. Tjenesten gir kunnskap, forståelse og trygghet i møtet mellom foreldre og helsepersonell. Omsorg følger mor og partner gjennom graviditeten og spedbarnstiden, og sikrer god oppfølging av den psykiske helsen i tillegg til den fysiske. Ved hjelp av visuelle virkemidler bryter tjenesten ned barrierene som finnes, og gjøre det enklere å sette ord på vanskelige tanker og følelser. Dette gjøres gjennom et kunnskaps- og refleksjonshefte, samtaleverktøy og tett oppfølging av psykisk helse. Samtidig gir tjenesten den kunnskapen og de verktøyene helsepersonell trenger for å nå inn til foreldre og være en støtte.
Vi håper at Omsorg kan inspirere til nye måter å møte psykisk helse, slik at vi alle kan bli bedre støttespillere for våre nærmeste. Bare på den måten kan vi skape den tryggheten, og gi den omsorgen alle foreldre fortjener.submittedVersio

Transforming and Adding to 0131 Sentrallager: Exhibition space for the Marine Museum archive.
No full textThe project aims to elevate the things and changes in time that I have found interesting and not cast them aside as unimportant to the history of these buildings, but to show them in either a new way or to bring forward that history as an important part. My aim is to look at the obvious parts to restore, but also bring forward to light the things we normally wouldn’t find valuable. 0131 Sentrallager is one of those buildings that people want to destroy because of its «grey» and closed facade without, trying to find interesting elements that do in fact have value. I want to elevate those values and propose a different outcome to this part of Karljohansvern.
Karljohansvern is in the process of becoming a cultural arena for the inhabitants and the visitors of Horten. Through adding a new extension, exploring and translating architectural qualities and historical layers, I believe that this transformation would open up this part of Karljohansvern and make Magasin B and the storage building accessible for the public.
Magasin B has been through many different phases throughout the years, and my project is a proposal for a new phase, that does not eraze the historical traces, but are trying to enhance them by adding to.submittedVersio
