    No full text
The rise of MXenes and their derivatives, particularly two-dimensional (2D) transition metal borides (MBenes), marks a significant advancement in 2D nanomaterials. Their versatility has sparked great interest in various research fields, paving the way for their use in multiple applications such as energy storage. MBenes have desirable electrochemical and electrical properties, such as high electrical conductivity, making them highly effective catalysts for a variety of electrochemical reactions, including the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Therefore, this mini-review provides an overview of the current progress in the field of MBenes-based composite materials used as electrocatalysts for ORR, OER, HER, and water splitting. Moreover, this study examines both theoretical and experimental studies to identify the factors influencing the electrochemical properties of MBenes-based electrocatalysts, offering insights into improving and optimizing their catalytic activity and chemical stability. By addressing the complex interaction between MBenes and their electrochemical performance, this study serves as a valuable roadmap for researchers aiming to improve the efficiency and durability of MBenes-based electrocatalysts.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey TUBITAK [BIDEB 2247-D, 121C217]; Scientific Research Projects Unit of Osmaniye Korkut Ata University [OKBAP-2023-PT1-004]This study was funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey TUBITAK (BIDEB 2247-D) under project number 121C217. Climate change and human-induced pollution threaten freshwater systems. In the present study, it was aimed to evaluate the macrophytes-stressor relations and ecological quality status based on the Macrophyte Biological Index for Rivers (Indice Biologique Macrophytique en Rivi & egrave;re [IBMR]) index of 25 streams sampled in the spring (rainy) and autumn (dry) seasons of 2021 in Kahramanmara & scedil; province. A total of 53 macrophyte taxa were identified, and Lycopus europaeus, Mentha longifolia, Mentha aquatica, Juncus sp., Cladophora glomerata and Carex sp. were common taxa. Canonical correspondence analysis results indicated significant effects of total phosphorus, nitrite, dissolvent oxygen, electrical conductivity, bromate and boron on the distribution of macrophytes among streams, which was supported by results of the weighted average regression analysis. The IBMR indicated that the ecological quality status varied from bad to good in the studied streams. Deterioration in the water quality of a few ecosystems in the dry season compared to the rainy season was elucidated by the IBMR, which also distinguished the ecological conditions of streams. Results highlight that macrophyte species are one of the most important bioindicators to evaluate the ecological status of streams in Kahramanmara & scedil; province due to their sensitivity to changes in environmental conditions. All suggest that IBMR can be used to evaluate the ecological health of streams in the Mediterranean region.Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBIdot;TAK) [119Y494]This research was supported by the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUB & Idot;TAK) with the project no. 119Y494 and we thank to Scientific Research Projects Executive Council of University of Gaziantep

Background: Concerns that the diseases of individuals with non-coronavirus disease 2019 (non-COVID-19) conditions will progress, their symptoms will worsen, their treatments will be prolonged, and morbidity and mortality will increase due to fears of disease transmission or contagion during the pandemic have affected all individuals. It is important to recognize the death anxiety of oncology patients, especially those who may have high levels of death anxiety, and to support their spiritual care. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on death anxiety and the level of spirituality and spiritual care in oncology patients, as well as to identify the relationship between these variables. Methods: In this study, 204 patients diagnosed with cancer were recruited through an online application. Data were collected using an individual identification form, Death Anxiety Scale, and the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale (SSCRS). A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. The “Mann-Whitney U” test (Z-table value) was used for comparing measurement values of two independent groups in data not having a normal distribution; the “Kruskal-Wallis H” test (χ2-table value) was used to compare three or more independent groups. The “Spearman correlation test” was performed to determine the relationship between scale scores. Results: The mean age of the patients in this study was 60.72 ± 14.36 years. The mean death anxiety score was found to be 11.19 ± 1.79, and the mean SSCRS score was 30.50 ± 4.65. Statistically significant differences were found in death anxiety and SSCRS scores according to the age groups of the patients and the presence of other chronic diseases (P > 0.05). In addition, a statistically significant difference was found in terms of death anxiety scale scores according to the diagnosis of COVID-19 (P < 0.05). There was a negative, very weak and statistically significant relationship between the patients’ spirituality and spiritual care and death anxiety scale scores (r=-0.157; P = 0.025). Conclusion: It has been determined that oncology patients have high death anxiety and a moderate perception of spirituality and spiritual care during the COVID-19 pandemic process. Keywords

19th Baltic Electronics Conference -- OCT 02-04, 2024 -- Tallinn University Of Technology, Tallinn, ESTONIAThis paper proposes a novel non-isolated bidirectional three-port converter (TPC) based on a KY boost converter and an interleaved boost converter for photovoltaic (PV) powered and battery-buffered systems. The proposed three-port converter integrates ports of the PV array, battery pack and DC microgrid bus bar. Proposed converter is composed of two power switch, an LC filter for battery, boost inductor for PV array and KY boost converter, which is consist of a charge pump capacitor and two series switches. In the proposed converter, the charge pump capacitor and boost inductor provide a voltage gain, thus, the number of series battery cells and PV array can be reduced for a lower cost. On the other hand, a two-control loop scheme has been designed to control power flow between the ports and perform a smooth transition between the loops. To test the effectiveness of the proposed TPC, a MATLAB/Simulink-based simulation model has been developed with a 1 kW PV array, 37 V 10 Ah battery pack and 64 V DC microgrid. The performance of the proposed converter has been analyzed for different case studies and loading conditions. According to the simulation results, 96% peak efficiency of the converter has been achieved and maximum power from PV has been extracted with MPPT mode selection. The results show that the proposed converter has some advantages in terms of the number of switches, multi-loop control, bidirectional power flow, cost and efficiency.Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers In

    No full text
Aim The study aimed to measure and compare differences (a) in the unfinished nursing care interventions overall and the order in which they are left unfinished; and (b) in the underline reasons, as perceived by Italian, Slovak and Turkish nursing students. Background In recent years, in the nursing education context a novel line of research in the field of unfinished nursing care as those interventions required by patients, but omitted or delayed, has emerged. However, no studies have been conducted at the international level. Design An international, comparative cross-sectional study was performed in 2022-2023 and reported here according to Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology guidelines. Methods A multinational research network was formed with a convenient sample of 13 universities and 60 campuses (4595 students). The Unfinished Nursing Care Survey for Students (UNCS4S) was administered. A total of 1850 students participated. Results According to the UNCS4S total score, Italians reported an average 50.9 out of 110 unfinished nursing care interventions (CI95 % 47.6-54.1), Slovakians 54.9 (CI95 % 53.7-56.1) and Turkish students 50.4 (CI95 % 49.2-51.5) (p<0.001). Some interventions were reported more often as unfinished across countries as supervising the task assigned to the nursing aides, going to the patient without being called, spending the required time with the patient and their caregivers and emotionally supporting patients and their caregivers. In terms of reasons, total scores were statistically different across countries (Italy: 45.92 out of 90, CI95 % 43.91-47.9; Slovakia: 62, CI95 % 61.02-62.98; T & uuml;rkiye: 72.29, CI95 % 71.13-73.45; p<0.001); however, at the factor level, communication issues, lack of material resources and issues in supervision of nursing aides were reported in all countries as the most important reasons of the unfinished nursing care. Conclusions Students learn to shape and set priorities early in their nursing careers with similar order in what to leave unfinished as first, despite the different educational structures, care cultures and healthcare systems. Among the unfinished nursing care reasons perceived, the most influential were similar across countries, suggesting common areas for improvement. How to better prepare students to be resilient and capable of managing the challenges posed by unfinished nursing care episodes due to the lack of resources and communications issues should be considered as a priority by nurse educators.Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic; KEGA project [040UK-4/2023]This work was supported by the Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic [the project of the KEGA project No. 040UK-4/2023 Safe Provision of Nursing Care].r Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic [the project of the KEGA project No. 040UK-4/2023 Safe Provision of Nursing Care]

    No full text

Idiosyncratic risk and market volatility: Threat or opportunity for returns? A study of Borsa Istanbul stocks

    No full text
This study investigates the relationship between idiosyncratic risk, market volatility, and stock returns for companies traded on the Borsa Istanbul. The analysis calculates idiosyncratic risk and market volatility and estimates the coefficients using cross-sectional and panel data approaches. The GARCH and EGARCH models are used to calculate market volatility, while idiosyncratic risk is measured using the Capital Asset Pricing Model, and three-factor, four-factor, and five-factor models. We run the Fama-MacBeth regression to investigate the cross-sectional relationship between idiosyncratic risk, market volatility, and stock returns and the ArellanoBover/Blundell-Bond panel regression technique to unveil firm-specific effects. The estimated coefficients demonstrate a positive relationship between idiosyncratic risk and stock returns and a negative relationship between market volatility and stock returns. Furthermore, the findings suggest that larger firm size, higher trading volume, higher market returns, and higher book-to-market ratios have positive effects, while beta and corporate governance indices have negative effects on returns

Bu çalışmada, keçiboynuzu tozu ve probiyotik kültür ilavesinin 3 aylık depolama süreci boyunca yer fıstığı ezmesinin bazı kalite özellikleri üzerine etkisini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada sade, keçiboynuzu tozu ilaveli ve ilavesiz probiyotik fıstık ezmesi olmak üzere 3 farklı üretim gerçekleştirilmiştir. Fıstık ezmesi üretiminde kullanılan keçiboynuzu tozunun prebiyotik ve emülsifikasyon etkisi tespit edilmiştir. Fıstık ezmelerinde, 3 aylık depolama boyunca fizikokimyasal (pH, kül, kuru madde ve yağ kaybı), mikrobiyolojik (canlı L. rhamnosus sayısı) ve duyusal analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Depolama süresinin ürün kalite özellikleri üzerindeki etkisi istatistiksel olarak çoğunlukla önemsiz (p>0.05) bulunurken, üretim yönteminin etkisi genelde önemli (p0.05), while the effect of production method was generally significant (p<0.05). In peanut butters, pH values ranged from 6.43 to 6.72, ash values ranged from 2.57 to 2.60%, dry matter content ranged from 97.31 to 99.07%, and fat loss ranged from 2.53 to 4.95%. While probiotic cell viability was not detected during the storage process in plain peanut butters, which are the control sample, the L. rhamnosus count was found to be 5.95-6.45 log cfu/g in peanut butter without the addition of carob powder and the L. rhamnosus count was found to be 6.15-6.82 log cfu/g in peanut butter with carob powder added. It has been determined that carob powder supports probiotic cell vitality with a prebiotic effect in peanut butter and has a positive effect on the technofunctional properties of the product. In terms of sensory properties, the probiotic peanut butter samples received similar appreciation to the control sample, plain peanut butter. Ultimately, with this study, it has been revealed that probiotic peanut butter with the addition of carob powder as a new functional food is an acceptable product with its quality characteristics
