The traditional family structure in Turkish painting art and the place of women in society in the context of Neşet Günal's paintings
Tradition shapes the lifestyles of individuals and societies as a phenomenon that evolves and transforms over time, influencing the cultural identity of communities passed down through generations. In Anatolian society, women and family serve as the cornerstones of traditional structure, playing a central role in the transformation of social and cultural frameworks. This research addresses traditional values, the concepts of women and family through the works of Neşet Günal, one of the significant representatives of the social realist art movement in Turkey. Depictions of women and family in Turkish society have been expressed through art across various historical periods. The traditional Turkish family structure and women have been articulated through strong figurative representation by the social realist Neşet Günal. The artist, who produces works in the social realist direction, concretely reflects the challenges of rural life, social class differences, and the effects of traditions on individuals and society in his works. By reflecting the periodic social reality of the society he lived in, Neşet Günal makes the effects of traditional values on human lives visible through his art. Günal's works reflect the harsh living conditions of rural villagers and the roles of women in society during different periods, creating a visual source for social values and beliefs. This research examines how the traditional family structure and the place of women in society are reflected in Turkish painting art through selected works of Neşet Günal. In the research, Günal's selected works have been evaluated using foreground and background analysis methods. The foreground analysis aims to examine the plastic and formal structures of the works. The background analysis seeks to understand the connections between the social, cultural, and economic conditions of the period in which the work was produced and the artist's artistic style. It is observed that there are limited comprehensive studies on Neşet Günal regarding traditional family structure and the place of women in society. This research aims to address this gap, revealing how Günal reflects traditional values, women, and family in his works. As a result, the findings obtained from the research demonstrate that the representations of tradition, art, and women in Neşet Günal's works serve as strong documents of the social structure of the period. Günal's works have become an important reflection of the social realism movement by addressing the societal roles of family and women figures within traditional values against the backdrop of the challenging living conditions of rural villagers. In this context, the research aims to contribute not only to art history but also to academic studies aimed at understanding the periodic social structure and traditional transformations, as well as to the field of art education

THE EFFECT OF PEANUT TAHINI UTILIZATION ON THE MINERAL CONTENT OF HALVA
Halva is a traditional Turkish dessert with origins in the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Made from tahini, sugar, soapwort extract, and various additives, it is widely consumed in the Middle East and Mediterranean, particularly in Turkiye. Often enjoyed for breakfast and special occasions, tahini halva can be enriched with ingredients like cocoa, pistachios, and hazelnuts. This study produced halva using different ratios of peanut tahini (50% and 100%), with sesame tahini as the control and analyzed the mineral content of the samples. The halvas were prepared by mixing tahini with other components and kneading until the desired consistency was achieved. Mineral content was analyzed using atomic absorption spectrometry to measure macro-minerals (Ca, K, Na, Mg, P) and micro-minerals (Fe, Zn, Mn). Results indicated that halva made with sesame tahini had higher levels of calcium, sodium, magnesium, phosphor, and zinc. In contrast, halva made with peanut tahini contained higher levels of potassium, iron, and manganese. Thus, the study concluded that the ratio of peanut tahini significantly affects the mineral content of halva
The Ideology of Liberal Nationalism and Halide Edip Adıvar's Yeni Turan
This article discusses the novel Yeni Turan written by Halide Edip Ad & imath;var during the Second Constitutional Era, within the framework of the liberal nationalism argument. The main purpose of this study is to shed light on Halide Edip's nationalist ideas during the Second Constitutional Monarchy Period by examining whether the utopia created in the novel Yeni Turan is consistent with the basic arguments of the liberal nationalist ideology. Liberal nationalism is a conception of nationalism in which liberal values are dominant. Liberal nationalists work from the idea that the world is divided into nations, each with a unique personality and character that deserve respect. The liberal nationalist argument considers the preservation and development of national identities as important. According to liberal nationalists, this means that national identities should have the right to self-determination. Additionally, liberal nationalists see an environment that nurtures national identities as compatible with democratic practices if individuals share the same beliefs as those representing them, this indicates to the members of that nation that they are part of an active community. The clearest way to ensure this is for nations to have a government of their own choosing. This perspective sheds light on the relationship between nationalism and democracy. Thus, a political structure where sovereignty is shared under a federal umbrella would be a governance model aligned with the ideology of liberal nationalism. Halide Edip's goal as a nationalist intellectual was to find a foundation on which the Turkish national identity, which at the time was struggling under the shadow of the Ottomanism movement, could be strengthened. Throughout the novel, she manifests this goal through her imagining of T & uuml;rkiye. Her utopia is based on the concept of decentralization. A democratic, federal, and liberal political system is envisioned in the novel, where every nation in the empire can experience its nationalism, and women can gain their rights. It is concluded that Halide Edip Ad & imath;var is a liberal nationalist intellectual of the Second Constitutional Monarchy Period with her novel Yeni Turan, which describes a utopia she established

Atık tekstilin kohezyonlu zeminin serbest basınç dayanımı üzerindeki etkisi
The increasing need for sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions in geotechnical engineering has prompted significant interest in utilizing waste materials for soil improvement. This study explores the utilize of waste denim fabric as a reinforcement material for clayey silt soil, aiming to enhance soil properties while contributing to the recycling of textile waste. Waste denim was prepared in three aspect ratios (A1: 6×6 mm, A2: 6×12 mm, and A4: 6×24 mm) and incorporated to the soil in different ratios based on dry weight (0.4%, 0.8%, and 1.6%). Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests were conducted to analyze the effects of denim reinforcement on stress-strain behavior, UCS value, elastic modulus, UCS increase ratio, deformability index, and normalized energy absorption capacity. The results demonstrated a significant enhancement in the mechanical properties of the reinforced soil compared to the unreinforced soil. The UCS increased notably with denim reinforcement, with the highest strength achieved by A4-sized fabric at 1.6% and 0.4% reinforcement rates, yielding approximately 41.67% and 40.91% increases, respectively. Furthermore, the energy absorption index showed the most substantial improvement with A4-sized fabric, reaching a normalized value of 1.4, highlighting its superior ability to dissipate energy under loading. Additionally, the elastic modulus, representing soil stiffness, increased with denim reinforcement, particularly with 0.4% A4 fabric, which achieved the highest value among all configurations. The study concludes that waste denim fabric is a viable, sustainable material for soil improvement, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional soil stabilization methods.
Vapor chamber thermal performance: Partially heated with different heating areas at the center and supported by numerical analysis for the experimental setup
This paper presents the design of a partially heated Vapor Chamber (VC) system utilizing a passive cooling technique, analyzed under various inclination angles. The Finite Volume Method (FVM) is utilized to compare the results with experimental measurements conducted. Additionally, all results obtained with the tested VC are compared to a copper plate of identical dimensions to demonstrate the VC's impact on thermal management issues. The dimension of the copper VC is established as 56 x 56 mm2. Two distinct partial heating dimensions at the evaporator block, measuring 10 x 10 mm2 and 20 x 20 mm2, are evaluated under various heat flux loads. The study is further expanded to include varying temperatures between the evaporator block and the condenser block. While a chiller controls the temperature on the condenser block side, the power supply to the evaporator block is adjustable to facilitate heating. The inclination angle of the system is identified as an additional parameter for investigation, as it may influence the thermal performance of the vapor chamber due to gravitational effects. At the conclusion of the study, significant results indicated that a higher thermal resistance value was observed for a heating area of 10 x 10 mm2 for both VC and copper plate. The comparison between the copper plate and VC indicates a 7 % reduction in thermal resistance with VC across both selected heating areas. Furthermore, a higher temperature that increases proportionally with heat flux is observed in the case of the copper plate. The effect of inclination appears to be negligible for the parameters examined
Distribution and ecotoxicological assessment of trace elements and minerals in Nile Delta sediments using multitechnique analysis
This study assesses heavy metal contamination, trace elements, and mineral composition in Nile Delta sediments, a region critical for agriculture and ecology. Sediment samples (n = 23) were collected from key urban, agricultural, and industrial zones using a Van Veen grab sampler to capture spatial variability. Analytical techniques included X-ray fluorescence for elemental composition, particle size analysis for grain size distribution, and X-ray diffraction coupled with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy for mineral identification. All analyses followed strict QA/QC protocols, including certified reference materials and triplicate measurements. Statistical analyses (Descriptive Statistics, correlation, PCA) were applied to interpret spatial patterns. The elements analyzed included trace metals and oxides of major elements. Pollution indices-Pollution Loading Index (PLI), Geoaccumulation Index (Igeo), Enrichment Factor, Contamination Factor, and Sediment Quality Guidelines-were used to assess contamination levels and ecological risks. Results showed transition metal concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 569.3 mg kg-1, with actual cadmium (Cd) concentrations of 1.0-4.3 mg kg-1. The contamination degree ranged from 9.47 to 23.10, indicating localized pollution. Sediments exhibited moderate nickel (Ni) contamination but were within safe limits for copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn). PLI values (0.18-1.09) indicated minimal contamination overall, except at sites E2 and G3. Grain size analysis revealed sand (3.56-95.49%) and clay (0.27-12.50%) variability, while mineralogical analysis identified quartz, calcite, aragonite, albite, microcline, and illite as dominant minerals. The study concludes that Nile Delta sediments are generally uncontaminated by heavy metals (supported by Igeo values), though localized contamination hotspots exist. This research provides novel insights into sediment contamination patterns, offering a critical baseline for environmental management.Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority (STDF); Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB)Open access funding provided by The Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) in cooperation with The Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB)
