Structural and Vibrational Characterizations of Alizarin Red S

No full text
In this work, the structures of the isolated anion and anhydrous and monohydrated sodium salts of alizarin red S (ARS) have been theoretically investigated within the density functional theory framework (B3LYP/6-311++G** calculations). The combination of calculations with the scaled quantum mechanics force field (SQMFF) methodology has allowed the assignment of the experimental infrared spectrum of ARS in the solid phase and the determination of the corresponding force constants. The structural analysis also included the investigation of the NMR and UV-visible spectra of the compound in solution in light of the undertaken quantum chemical calculations, the obtained theoretical data being in good agreement with the corresponding experimental ones. The impact of the presence of the Na+ counterion and hydration water on the properties of the organic ARS- fragment was evaluated. Atoms in molecules theory (AIM) analysis was also undertaken to obtain further details on the electronic structure of the investigated species, and the HOMO-LUMO gap was determined to evaluate their relative reactivity. Globally, the results obtained in this work extend the available information on alizarin red S and may also be used for the fast identification of the three studied species of the compound investigated (anhydrous and monohydrated sodium salts and isolated anion).Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia (FCT). No full text

The Effectiveness of Social Story Interventions Presented With the Orff Approach in Acquisition of Musical Skills by Developmentally Disabled Children

No full text
In this study the effectiveness of social story (SS) interventions combined with the Orff approach in teaching musical skills to children with developmental disabilities (DD) was examined. Three middle school children - 2 girls and 1 boy with DD between 11 and 13 years old participated in the study. In this research, a single-subject with multiple-probe design with probe trials across subjects was employed. The research findings demonstrate that SS interventions combined with the Orff approach play an effective role in acquiring musical skills in children with DD. The results also show that all children could maintain and generalise their acquired musical skills. Finally, children and their families' opinions about the social validity were positive

A Protocol for the Investigation of the Intramolecular Vibrational Energy Redistribution Problem: the Isomerization of Nitrous Acid as a Case of Study

The conformational isomerization of nitrous acid (HONO) promoted by excitation of the nu OH or nu N 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 11111111 00000000 11111111 00000000 00000000 00000000 O stretching normal coordinates is the first observed case of an infrared-induced photochemical reaction. The energy captured by the excited normal modes is redistributed into a highly excited vibrational level of the tau OH torsion normal coordinate, which is the isomerization reaction coordinate. Herein, we present simple numerical methods to qualitatively investigate the coupling between the normal coordinates and the possible gateways for vibrational energy redistribution leading to the isomerization process. Our methodology involves the generation of the relevant 2D potential energy surface (PES), by spanning the reaction coordinate and one of the 3N - 7 projected normal coordinates along the intrinsic reaction coordinate (IRC). Once the PES has been obtained, the time-independent wavefunctions are calculated using the standard discrete variable representation (DVR) approach. The reaction barrier is investigated using the interacting quantum atoms (IQA) decomposition scheme, evidencing an important contribution from the exchange-correlation energy to the isomerization. Coupling between normal coordinates indicates preferential normal modes to redistribute the vibrational energy. 1D deep tunneling rates were found to be negligible

Starlikeness and Convexity of q-polyharmonic Univalent Mappings

The connection of polyharmonic mappings with q-calculus is not explored yet. In this paper, we attempt to construct a bridge between polyharmonic mappings and q-calculus by genaralizing the results obtained by Chen et al. (Bull Belg Math Soc Simon Stevin 21:67-82, 2014) to q-calculus. We first introduce the notion of q-polyharmonic mappings and define two new subclasses of q-polyharmonic mappings, denoted by SHp,q & lowast;\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}{\mathcal {S}}<^>*_{{\mathcal {H}}_{p,q}}\end{document} and CHp,q\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}CHp,q{\mathcal {C}}_{{\mathcal {H}}_{p,q}}\end{document}, associated with q-calculus. Then, we prove that these classes are univalent and sense-preserving in the open unit disk D\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}D{\mathbb {D}}\end{document}. Further, we explore two characterizations in terms of convolution for q-polyharmonic mappings to be starlike and convex, respectively. We next investigate coefficient estimates and extreme points for functions belonging to these classes. Finally, we introduce radii of starlikeness and radii of convexity for these function classes

A Bibliometric Trend Analysis of Augmented Reality in STEM Education

No full text
This study aims to uncover research trends using augmented reality (AR) technology in STEM education through content analysis and bibliometric network analysis. The bibliometric network analysis revealed that the most frequently used keywords by authors were 'augmented reality', 'STEM', and 'STEM education'. Content analysis further indicated that "educational outcomes" was the most studied variable across the articles. The most investigated sample group was college students. Regarding research methodology, approximately one-third of the studies employed qualitative methods, while another third used quantitative approaches. The content analysis findings suggest that using AR technologies in STEM education is beneficial and promising for students. Moreover, integrating AR technologies into STEM curricula enriches students' learning experiences and motivates them. Based on these results, significant recommendations are offered for educators and policymakers

Exploring Young Children's Social-Emotional Adjustment: Insights From Peer Interaction Patterns

No full text
This study explored young children's social-emotional adjustment within peer interactions using an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data were collected from 258 five-year-old children to assess their social-emotional adjustment levels. Subsequently, observational data were gathered on ten children - representing the highest and lowest adjustment levels - during peer interactions in a natural classroom setting. Children with high adjustment frequently provided emotional and motivational support, invited peers to play, led games, and showed affection, though they occasionally exhibited complaints and verbal aggression toward peers. Conversely, children with low adjustment levels tended to avoid interaction, experience peer rejection, engage in onlooker or solitary play, and display behaviors such as taking items without permission, behavioral and verbal aggression, and reluctance to share. Notably, both high - and low-adjustment groups displayed some shared behaviors, including game leadership, peer complaints, and verbal aggression. These findings underscore the complex behavioral patterns characterizing children's social-emotional adjustment in peer interactions
