Success and University for Indigenous students: A review of Higher Education in Australia
No full textThis paper examines how well Higher Education (HE) meets the aspirations of Indigenous people in Australia, especially as reflected in the public policy discourse and its measurements of success. Through a literature review, the paper analyses current public policy and experiences of Indigenous students to identify the extent to which the HE system meets the needs of Indigenous people, especially those from remote areas. From a critical examination of the concept of success, the current limitations within HE are presented, and recommendations are made to help ensure that Indigenous Australians' aspirations and needs for HE are more firmly at the forefront of policy, design and delivery of HE in Australia

No full textDans la nomenclature des nouveaux objets du droit constitutionnel figure en bonne place la question de la performance. Cette évolution est consécutive au fait que ledit droit ne se contente plus d’encadrer le pouvoir et d’énoncer les droits et libertés. Il s’intéresse désormais à la bonne gouvernance et aux résultats de l’action publique. Seulement, l’exaltation de la performance ne s’opère pas avec la même ampleur dans tous les espaces. Dans le nouveau constitutionnalisme des États d’Afrique noire francophone, c’est de manière timide que celle-ci est prise en compte, ce qui constitue un paradoxe au regard de la crise de gouvernance ambiante sur l’ensemble du continent africain. À l’analyse des lois fondamentales et de la dynamique constitutionnelle, il se dégage le double constat de l’aménagement lacunaire et de l’évaluation déficitaire de la performance dans les États à l’étude.In the nomenclature of the new objects of constitutional law, the question of performance figures prominently. This evolution is the result of the fact that constitutional law is no longer content to regulate power and set out rights and freedoms, but is now concerned with good governance and the results of public action. However, the exaltation of performance does not take place to the same extent in all areas. In the new constitutionalism of French-speaking black African states, performance is only timidly taken into account, which is paradoxical given the crisis of governance that prevails throughout the continent. An analysis of the fundamental laws and constitutional dynamics reveals a double observation : a lack of planning and a deficient evaluation of performance in the states under study.En el índice de los nuevos temas del Derecho constitucional, el aspecto del rendimiento ocupa un lugar prominente. Esta evolución resulta del hecho de que el derecho constitucional ya no se conforma con regular el poder y establecer derechos y libertades. También comprende la buena gobernanza y los resultados de la acción pública. No obstante, la exaltación del rendimiento no se lleva a cabo en todos los ámbitos en la misma medida : En el nuevo constitucionalismo de los Estados del África negra francófona, sólo se ha tenido en cuenta de forma incipiente, lo que constituye una paradoja, considerando la crisis de gobernabilidad que reina en todo el continente. L’impartialité du juge constitutionnel en Afrique noire francophone
No full textL’impartialité du juge consiste en l’absence de parti pris. Dernier-né des juges africains ayant émergé à la faveur de la démocratisation des années 1990, le juge constitutionnel se doit dans l’examen de constitutionnalité, a priori comme a posteriori, de peser le pour et le contre des moyens exposés devant lui et de n’avoir aucun préjugé. Toutefois, le procès constitutionnel oppose plutôt les normes. Les audiences ne sont pas publiques, et la procédure en matière constitutionnelle n’est pas contradictoire et manque de garanties, comme la récusation et le déport. Par ailleurs, l’impartialité est proclamée par les constitutions des différents États. Le juge constitutionnel, qui a une vie avant et après le mandat, tente d’assumer son impartialité sous la menace du pouvoir politique et de l’opinion publique, ainsi que l’atteste la jurisprudence de plusieurs juridictions, en particulier du Bénin, du Mali, du Sénégal et de la Centrafrique.The impartiality of judge is an absence of commitment in favor of any disputant. The constitutional justice is the latest among African jurisdiction which emerged from the progress of the democratization process in 1990 years. He should, during the exam a priori or a posteriorly of the constitutionality, evaluate the fairness of the arguments developed before him without having prejudice. But the constitutional trial is opposing norms. The trials are not opened to the public and the process in the matter is not contradictory. It loses some’s guaranties as challenge and deport. The impartiality is proclaimed by the constitutions of different States. The constitutional judge who has a life before and after his mandate attempts to assume his impartiality under the threat of the political power and the public opinion as showed by the jurisprudence of several jurisdictions in particular of Benin, Mali, Senegal and the Republic of Central Africa.La imparcialidad de un juez radica en la ausencia de predisposiciones. El último de los jueces africanos creado a raíz de la democratización en los años noventa, el juez constitucional, tiene el deber, al examinar la constitucionalidad, tanto a priori como a posteriori, de sopesar los pros y los contras de los argumentos presentados ante él, sin prejuicio alguno. No obstante, en los procedimientos constitucionales se contradicen las normas : Las audiencias no son públicas, el procedimiento en materia constitucional no es contradictorio y carece de garantías, como la recusación y la inhibición. Las constituciones de diversos Estados proclaman la imparcialidad, sin embargo, el juez constitucional, antes y después de sus funciones intenta asumir su imparcialidad bajo la coerción del poder político y de la opinión pública, como lo demuestra la jurisprudencia de diversas jurisdicciones, particularmente de Benín, Malí, Senegal y de la República Centroafricana

No full textÀ l’antipode des rapports de domination valorisant l’extraordinaire et le spectaculaire, ma recherche d’une danse sans ego me conduit à poser la question suivante : qu’advient-il de la danse quand l’être humain n’est plus au centre de l’attention (ni de l’action)? À travers un récit expérimental composé sous la forme d’une balade sensorielle, j’aiguise mon attention à des présences micropolitiques qui m’invitent à reconsidérer mes attentes et habitudes vis-à-vis de ma pratique en danse, ainsi que les fondements hiérarchiques de l’art vivant qui les conditionnent encore aujourd’hui. L’autre-qu’humain ouvre ainsi mon champ attentionnel à une dramaturgie du vivant qui engage un décentrement radical.At the opposite end of power dynamics that value the extraordinary and the spectacular, my search for an ego-less dance leads me to ask the following question: what becomes of dance when the human being is no longer at the centre of attention (or of action)? Through an experimental narrative composed as a sensory walk, I sharpen my attention to micropolitical presences that invite me to reconsider my expectations and habits regarding my dance practice, as well as the hierarchical foundations of the performing arts that continue to shape it today. No full textLes nuages sonores (2023-2024), en tant que première étape d’un projet qui vise la création scénique d’un abécédaire de la survie et de la biodiversité, nourrit une réflexion qui traverse les concepts d’immersion, d’interactivité et d’atmosphère pour proposer une disposition de corps en contexte de performance qui s’inscrit dans une écoute augmentée comme attention corporéisée. Les performeur·euses qui s’approprient cette disposition à travers la dimension atmosphérique de leur corps peuvent inviter les spectateur·trices à ouvrir leurs sens et à migrer du visuel et de l’intelligible vers une écoute de tout le corps permettant de porter attention aux liens invisibles comme aux êtres en train de disparaître.Les nuages sonores (2023-2024), as the first stage of a project aimed at creating an ABC of survival and biodiversity, nourishes a reflection that crosses the concepts of immersion, interactivity and atmosphere to propose a bodily posture within performance aligned with augmented listening as a form of embodied attention. Performers who take up this proposition through the atmospheric dimension of their body can invite spectators to open their senses and shift from the visual and the intelligible toward a whole-body listening that allows them to pay attention to invisible links as well as to beings in the process of disappearing
The Future of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in Education : Keep, Reform, or Dismantle?
No full textEquity, Diversity, and Inclusion, also known as EDI, is one of several acronyms that refer to policies and practices of organizations, such as K to 12 school boards and post-secondary institutions, to promote inclusive and equitable environments. While EDI has become a ubiquitous discourse in educational administration, its impact extends into classroom pedagogies, hiring practices, curriculum development, and institutional culture. In this article, we critically examine the extent to which EDI committees and initiatives fulfil their promise of fostering inclusive environments to support equity-denied groups. We address the following research questions: (1) How have EDI frameworks evolved in education? (2) What gaps exist between EDI policies and their implementation for transformative impact? (3) What alternative approaches can create sustainable and impactful change? Overall, the article casts a critical eye on EDI initiatives, exploring opportunities, challenges, and potential futurities considering the polarizing discourse of political correctness and anti-wokeness
Exploring the Prospective Biology Teachers’ Field-Trip Experiences as an Outdoor Learning Activity
No full textThe study aimed to identify the views of prospective biology students on the field-trip experience as an outdoor learning activity in both educational and social contexts. It employed a qualitative phenomenological analysis method. Participants included 38 prospective biology teachers in an education faculty in the Marmara region in Türkiye. The field trip was held at İzmir Bird Paradise, Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden in İzmir, Türkiye. Data was collected by an open-ended question form before and after the field trip. Content analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. The results of this examination showed that the students were mainly content with the social activities, courses, İzmir Bird Paradise, the Natural History Museum, and the Botanical Garden, respectively, after the field trip
“My teaching job is not what it used to be, and I'm looking for a way out:” A Mixed-Methods Examination of Teacher Stress Levels Following the COVID-19 Pandemic
No full textEducation following the COVID-19 pandemic is characterized by teacher stress, burnout, and turnover, leaving U.S. schools desperately short of teachers required to produce quality educational outcomes for students. This study aims to unpack current drivers of teacher stress and to provide options for educators looking to support K-12 teachers. A mixed-methods approach was utilized in surveying K-12 teachers (N = 295) within multiple school districts throughout Western Pennsylvania. Results show that time management, student discipline, and increased workloads are primary drivers of teacher stress, with insights that changes in student motivation, the volume of teachers’ work, lack of administrative support, and teachers’ struggles with mental health, led to increased stress. Suggestions for ways to support teachers experiencing stress are presented
Educating in Uncertainty: Research on Teaching and Learning as a Horizon for Universities in the 21st Century
No full textThe twenty-first-century university faces unprecedented complexity, uncertainty, and diversity, driven by social, technological, and cultural transformations that demand the preparation of professionals capable of addressing both global and local challenges. This article examines how the integration of research on teaching and learning can serve as a strategic axis for higher education institutions to respond to these challenges. Adopting a conceptual and analytical approach, this study synthesizes evidence from the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and the Science of Learning to explore their complementary roles in shaping effective pedagogical practices. The findings indicate that research-informed teaching strengthens reflective competencies, promotes pedagogical innovation, and supports teachers’ professional development, while also informing curriculum design and fostering inclusive, adaptive, and collaborative learning environments. For students, this integration leads to deep and meaningful learning, fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and self-regulation skills. The significance of these results lies in the fact that aligning evidence-based teaching and learning strategies with institutional goals enables the university to operate as a dynamic ecosystem where research informs practice and learning, in turn enriching inquiry. This approach safeguards against misinformation and shallow learning, prepares graduates to navigate complex professional and social realities, and positions the university as a resilient and socially relevant model
