Patrixa: A unification-based parser for Basque and its application to the automatic analysis of verbs
No full textIn this chapter we describe a computational grammar for Basque, and the first results obtained using it in the process of automatically acquiring subcategorization information about verbs and their associated sentence elements (arguments and adjuncts).In section 1 we describe the Basque syntax and the grammar we have developed for its treatment. The grammar is partial in the sense that it cannot recognize every sentence in real texts, but it is capable of describing the main syntactic elements, such as noun-phrases (NPs), prepositional phrases (PPs), and subordinate and simple sentences. This can be useful for several applications.In section 2 we explain the syntactic analyzer (or parser) used to automatically acquire information on verbal subcategorization from texts. The results will later be used by a linguist or processed by statistical filters.This work has been done by the IXA Natural Language Processing research group, centered on the application of automatic methods to the analysis of Basque

No full textDuring the preparation and the works of collection of data of the Basque Linguistic Atlas (EHHA), we have asked ourselves in infinity of occasions on the sense of a collection of data of this spread, or on the reach of a linguistic atlas. We thought that the last objective of a so ample collection of data cannot solely be the publication in linguistic atlas form. The operation of the data gathered to of being ampler, so that it can as much be a source of intelligence for foneticians, as for the fonologists, "grammarians" interested in morphology or syntactic aspects, lexicographers, ethnologists, anthropologists... We cannot take off of the mind the little or null use that has had to the present time the immense majority of linguistic atlases. They are conscious of it, even authors themselves...Durante la confección y los trabajos de recogida de datos del Atlas Lingüístico Vasco (EHHA), nos hemos preguntado en infinidad de ocasiones sobre el sentido de una recogida de datos de esta envergadura, o sobre el alcance de un atlas lingüístico.Pensamos que el objetivo último de una recogida de datos tan amplia no puede ser únicamente la publicación en forma atlas lingüístico. La explotación de los datos recogidos a de ser más amplia, para que pueda ser una fuente de información tanto para fonetistas, como para los fonólogos, “gramáticos” interesados en morfología o aspectos sintácticos, lexicógrafos, etnólogos, antropólogos...No podemos quitarnos de la mente la poca o nula utilización que ha tenido hasta nuestros días la inmensa mayoría de los atlas lingüísticos. Son conscientes de ello, incluso los mismos autores..
Noms de famille, de baptême et surnoms recensés à Bayonne parmi les ressortissants de la "nation juive du bourg Saint-Esprit" au XVIIIème siècle
No full textEtude anthroponymique concernant la communauté juive bayonnaise au XVIIIe siècle. Les archives bayonnaises conservent plusieurs documents du XVIIIe siècle concernant la nation juive du bourg Saint-Esprit . Parmi ces documents, on trouve, entre autres, l'enregistrement par le " Sieur rabbin de la nation Juive du bourg Saint-Esprit près Bayonne " de 219 mariages, de 1184 naissances et de 1140 décès entre 1751 et 1788. Nous avons retranscrit et analysé d'un point de vue onomastique ce corpus. Au total, cela nous fait un total de 2749 personnes -- appartenant à la nation juive d'origine portugaise et espagnole -- identifiées par un prénom et/ou un nom de famille. En théorie, cela pourrait représenter la quasi totalité des Juifs ayant vécu à Saint-Esprit au cours de la deuxième moitié du XVIIIe siècle, du moins si on en croit un document de 1787 signalant qu'à l'époque la population juive de Saint-Esprit s'élevait à environ 2500 individus
