    No full text

    No full text
The multifaceted role of the HR function and how it is perceived is a phenomenon that is commonly discussed in organizational contexts. Negative stereotypes about HR seem to coexist with the view that it is a crucial department for the company. This study aims to explore how employees perceive HR’s role in their work life. Data was collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with ten full-time employees from various companies and organisations. The results have been processed through a thematic analysis, revealing three key themes: “The management’s extended arm”, “(In)visibility” and “Accessibility”. The study concludes that HR’s role as a strategic partner to management can lead to perceptions of a lacking neutrality and loyalty among employees. HR is also seen as more reactive than proactive, perceived as invisible in operational work but more visible in administrative tasks. Additionally, some employees experience cultural, structural and linguistic barriers that limit their access to HR’s support and resources. These results suggest a need for the HR function to evolve in order to strengthen its relationship with the company’s most valuable asset: its employees

Från Pandemi till Nutid : En Retrospektiv Studie om Sambandet mellan Organisatoriskt Stöd, Work-Life Balance och Upplevd Stress Under Covid-19 och Idag

    No full text

    No full text
The study analyzes the effectiveness of an investment strategy that combines two well-known financial ratios: P/E ratio and Sharpe ratio. The aim is to analyze whether a portfolio can be optimized by using these two relatively easily accessible and intuitive measures.  The study is conducted on the Swedish stock market over a 10-year period from 2014 to 2023 and compares a test portfolio, which is rebalanced annually based on a combination of P/E ratio and Sharpe ratio, with two control portfolios and with the market.  By analyzing the performance of the portfolios over time, the study aims to provide new insights into portfolio optimization. The results are discussed in relation to established financial theories such as the efficient market hypothesis and modern portfolio theory

Art, Spatiality and the Relation Between Them - An analysis of Maria Friberg’s Somewhere else (1998) at Stockholm School of Economics, The Thiel Gallery and The Modern Museum The following essay examines how a specific work of art can change depending on the surroundings of where it’s displayed and how that same piece of art, in turn, can change its surroundings. These questions are explored through semiotic analysis backed up by theories of narratology, contextuality and myths. The art work in question is Maria Friberg’s Somewhere else (1998), a photograph taken below a table depicting five pairs of legs, dressed in grey suit pants, widely spread apart in a so-called “man spread” manor. Somewhere else (1998) is one of Friberg's most famous photographs and has been displayed multiple times all around the world. For this essay however, three places in Stockholm will be compared. These are the lived spaces Stockholm School of Economics - a learning space, The Thiel gallery - a historical gallery space, and The Modern museum - a white cube museum.

    No full text

The Image’s Relation to Knowledge in Plato

    No full text
This thesis considers the epistemological value of the image as it occurs in the Platonic corpus. By implication of the theory of forms, the sensible world is often depicted throughout the dialogues as of inferior ontological weight as compared to the forms themselves. As an image is a body that at the same time is meant to represent a form, it is caught in the middle of these ontological poles. Given this, an understanding of the image grants insight to the possible bridging of these two spheres. The further consideration that images are a creation of man begs the question if something like a philosophical image, understood as the representation of something true, is considered as a possibility within Plato's thought. This thesis delves into this question, trying to understand how the image – something considered a lesser reality – can convey knowledge of a greater reality. The text argues for a consistent view of the image across the dialogues. By showing that all production (poiēsis) in the dialogues is fundamentally tied to an epistemic position, images are ascertained as infused with either truth or falsehood. These distinctions are distributed in the differing notions of images used by Plato; notably phantasma and eikōn, making an epistemology of the image intelligible. Of the two the eikōn is singled out as the epistemologically beneficial image due to its analogical function. Developing this point further, this text argues that this sort of image can be considered as a form of original work (erga) as they equally serve as a proportionate rendition of a vision of the real forms. By the idea of an icon as an original work the appropriate philosophical image is reconsidered as the image of virtue (agalmata aretē). This notion of the image of the gods (agalma), which is most notably used in the depiction of Socrates at the end of the Symposium, finally provides an example which meets the criteria of knowledge to be found throughout the dialogues

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to investigate the early identification of linguistically gifted students and analyze effective strategies for teaching Swedish to meet their needs. In addition to this, the study also sought to highlight how guardians and teachers perceive the school leadership’s support in developing differentiated teaching methods which challenge and stimulate these students. By combining different perspectives on identification, differentiation and organizational support, the aim of the study was to contribute to a deeper understanding of how schools can create a more supportive learning environment for linguistically gifted students. The study addressed the following research questions:  · What do teachers need to understand to recognize signs of and identify linguistic giftedness at an early age? · What strategies can be used to differentiate Swedish language teaching to meet the higher linguistic level of these gifted students? · To what extent do guardians and teachers perceive that school leadership provides support to promote teaching that challenges and stimulates gifted students? Data was collected through qualitative content analysis and semi-structured interviews. The theoretical framework was based on three models: Sims’ cluster model, pedagogical ABC and Blooms revised taxonomy, which served as the study’s main analyzing tools to highlight identification, differentiation and school leadership support. Based on previous research, the theoretical frameworks, and our own empirical data, two key themes emerged as the purpose of our study. Collaboration with guardians and within the school, as well as knowledge and skills development, recur in all three research questions as important to being able to identify these students, differentiate teaching for them and support them adequately. These findings can be used to create a more supportive learning environment, both from a macro and micro perspective. Further research could focus on the student perspectives and their well-being, which only briefly was mentioned in this study but proved could fill an entire study alone

Treading the Ground Sensibly : Reflections on deep memory and embodied artistic research in the Mãe Preta art project

    No full text
The chapter explores deep memory and embodied artistic research methods elaborated in our collaborative artistic research project, Mãe Preta ("Black Mother") that investigates the visual and social history of Black motherhood in Brazil, from times of slavery to the present. Using visual archives and participatory and embodied artistic methods, the project is contextualized in historical and political realities regarding the architectonic and visual legacy of slavery in Brazil, in a time of burgeoning Afro-feminist social mobilizations in the 21st century. The essay details our methodological approach, emphasizing ethical considerations such as building trust with cultural institutions and local communities, considering the role of a deep memory of the slave past as ways of critically addressing visual archives through installation, performance, and visual narratives. We highlight challenges such as securing funding from cultural institutions and navigating political agendas as well as issues of care in dealing with traumatic histories in contested terrains. Overall, the essay problematizes deep memory and embodied artistic research in landscapes of historical trauma in a way that is ethical and socially engaged. The authors hold the copyright to all the images, and we give permission for publishing them on Diva. </p

The mirage of agreeableness : A study of the impact of free-riding behavior on the sucker-effect

    No full text
In group work, the sucker-effect is a motivational loss in which effort is reduced due to feeling taken advantage of when other group members intentionally avoid work, known as free-riding. No previous studies on the sucker-effect have investigated moderating factors that can be attributed to the free-rider. The purpose of this study was to explore if agreeable behavior of a free-rider would moderate the sucker-effect, and if so, to what extent. Using an experimental design, students (n = 20) at Södertörn University served as participants. A systematic allocation toone of two conditions was used, the less agreeable and more agreeable. During the experiment a participant and a confederate worked in dyadson a disjunctive cooperative jigsaw puzzle task. The manipulation was the free-riding confederate's level of agreeableness. Self-rated effort andactual performance were measured. Using Mann-Whitney U-tests (α =.05, two-tailed), no significant differences were found in either of thedependent variables. In fact, by and large, no sucker-effect was observed at all. Other than manipulating the confederate's level of agreeableness, the design allowed for much more interaction in the dyads than previous studies on the sucker-effect have. It is discussed whether this interaction might have created an ingroup feeling, leading to the prevention of asucker-effect. In this study it thus seems that the free-rider's level of agreeableness does not moderate the sucker-effect. Also, meaningful interaction between group members might prevent a sucker-effect fromoccurring at all. However, due to the study's small sample size, theseresults are not definitive and should be taken with caution.
