This study examines the relationship between institutional factors and the number of reported money laundering cases in European countries. Focusing on three key variables – corruption levels (CPI), financial market efficiency, and AML risk (Basel AML Index) – the research analyzes data from 19 European nations to identify patterns and possible explanations for variations in money laundering reports. Using quantitative secondary data and descriptive statistics, the study compares countries with varying degrees of institutional strength. The findings indicate that countries with higher levels of corruption and weaker financial institutions tend to report fewer money laundering cases, which may reflect deficiencies in detection and reporting mechanisms. The study concludes that institutional quality plays a significant role in how effectively money laundering is identified and addressed across Europe
The dating reality show Love Island has gained immense popularity over the past few years and has multiplied into numerous spin-off versions across the world. Researchers have previously studied how the viewer receives reality TV and the structure of the production process. Through content analyses researchers have also gained an understanding of how racism is expressed in recent reality shows. This study aims to combine a reception analysis with critical race theory to gain an understanding of how a black female audience could perceive racism and racial stereotyping in Love Island. Through individual interviews five black female viewers of Love Island discuss their perception of race in the programme and if this is connected to their perception of their own blackness and womanhood. The results show the women were more likely to watch spin-off series that included black women. They found that good representation involves diversity in the cast, not only racially but also when it comes to skin tones, body types and personalities. According to them bad representation is when black female castmates are edited to be represented through racial stereotypes. They also connected their own personal experiences to the black female participants and felt a stronger connection to those who mirrored their own experiences.
The aim of this study was to examine how healthcare social workers in psychiatry and emergency care describe the support they provide to children (0–18 years) who have lost a parent or another cohabiting adult to suicide, focusing on interventions provided shortly after the death. The study was conducted as a simplified cross-sectional design with a strategic sample and elements of self-selection. Data were collected through a 40-item web survey distributed via social media and direct contact with healthcare units, and analysed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-tests, Pearson’s r, and a basic thematic analysis. The results showed that social workers to some extent come into contact with suicide-bereaved children despite lacking a formal mandate. Reported interventions included conversations about emotions, reactions, recovery strategies, and information tailored to the child’s level of understanding. Barriers to providing support included parental refusal, lack of interprofessional communication, and unclear division of responsibilities. Participants requested suicide-specific training, clearer routines, and in some cases, external expertise. The findings suggest that structural factors, rather than insufficient competence, limit the support offered. In conclusion, many children risk not being identified or offered support, leaving suicide-bereaved children at risk of remaining an overlooked group within healthcare

A nickel for your land: Discourse, power and politics of the green transition in Sweden : A case study of the Rönnbäcken nickel mine project
Recent years have seen growing policy emphasis on raw materials as a cornerstone of Europe’s climate-neutral ambitions. In Sweden, this dynamic is exemplified by the planned Rönnbäcken nickel mine in Storuman municipality, promoted as one of Europe’s largest untapped nickel deposits. Initially framed as a socioeconomic opportunity, the project has been rearticulated as central to Sweden’s green transition, especially as demand for battery metals intensifies. This reframing, however, has intensified contestation from Sámi communities, local resistance groups, and non-governmental organizations. They argue that extractive projects threaten ecological values and Indigenous rights and livelihoods, reproducing what is described as (green) colonialism. In this thesis, a discourse-theoretical approach drawing on the theories of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe is applied to investigate how the Rönnbäcken project is discursively constructed and contested as a part of the green transition. Particular attention is given to how “green transition” functions as a floating signifier. Findings show, on one hand, narratives that link mining to climate policy and European strategic autonomy, framing extraction as necessary, essential, and green. On the other hand, counter-narratives by Sámi groups and local/environmentalist resistance movements challenge this discourse. They frame the mining project as incompatible with Indigenous self-determination and ecological limits, thus challenging the very notion of the mine contributing to a green transition.
This study examines how female- and ,male-dominated trade unions in the Swedish public sector have addressed gender equality issues following the impact of the #MeToo movement in 2017. The focus is on the unions' strategies for combating sexual harassment and unjustified wage disparities, as well as the challenges they face in their gender equality efforts. The study is based on qualitative interviews with representatives from 11 trade unions and TCO, a central organization, complemented by a document analysis. The empirical material is analyzed through an institutional and gender power theoretical framework. The findings show that male- and female-dominated unions employ partly different strategies, shaped by their internal norms and structures. Several unions have implemented measures such as whistleblower systems, revised policies and strategies, and educational initiatives. However, challenges remain, including cultures of silence and a lack of long-term commitment. This study offers new insights into how internal union dynamics affect the impact of gender equality work and highlights the importance of inclusive and active leadership in achieving meaningful change.
Highlighted for their potential, yet conspicuously absent : Why the forest industry chose not to participate in the first reverse auction for BECCS support
Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) has emerged as a central climate mitigation measure in the IPCC scenarios that limit global warming to under 2 or 1.5 °C. Sweden is considered to have especially favorable conditions for BECCS due to large point sources of biogenic emissions. When alternatives were assessed to identify suitable measures to generate negative emissions to reach Sweden’s 2045 net-zero target, BECCS was identified to hold the potential to generate the largest amount of negative emissions. To realize BECCS, Sweden choose reverse auctions to distribute financial support. The first reverse auction was held during the end of 2024. Despite being identified as the sector with the greatest potential for BECCS in volume terms, the forest industry did not participate. Considering the potential implications of this outcome for Swedish climate policy, this master thesis provides a timely insight into why forest companies chose to abstain from the reverse auction and their general view on BECCS. In an effort to understand how Swedish forest policy might have influenced their attitude, the results are analyzed using a theoretical framework based on policy-feedback theory. The results reveal that some reasons to abstain are common to actors from many sectors, including the forest companies: General challenges and uncertainties of the BECCS-sector, and shortcomings of the reverse auction. Perspectives unique to the forest companies were also identified: The great potential of the forest industry is emphasized, but lacking incentives to improve climate performance, private ownership, and lack of capture technology prevent realization. Based on the theoretical framework, the following conclusions are proposed regarding the presence of policy feedback: BECCS harmonizes well with, and constitutes a new argument for, the understanding in and implications of aspects of Swedish forest policy that forest industries benefit from and hence promote policy lock-in to. However, the favorable conditions and position the forest industry has achieved due to the view on their contribution to climate change, based on these same policies, limits their motivation to deviate from or go beyond current practices
