„Hell is far more convincing than heaven”1 – Michelle Pavers Wakenhyrst (2019) als feministischer folk horror
No full textFolk horror kennt seit einigen Jahren in verschiedenen Medienformaten eine erneute Blüte. Auch wenn folk horror wegen seines Fokus auf Heidnisches und oftmals blutige Opfer sich eher an ein erwachsenes Publikum richtet, finden sich immer auch Bearbeitungen, die an Jugendliche adressiert sind. In dem Zusammenhang schlage ich eine Lesart von Michelle Pavers Roman Wakenhyrst (2019) als Versuch einer feministischen Weiterschreibung von folk horror vor. Im Zentrum steht mit Maud Stearne eine Jugendliche, die sich gegen ihren Vater und seinen Wahn behaupten muss, was ihr auch gelingt, indem sie Schlimmeres verhindern kann und sie danach im Herrenhaus für sich allein weiterleben kann. So gesehen, weist der Roman feministische Elemente auf, zugleich ist Maud Stearne aber einsam und ein erfülltes Leben mit Ausbildung und Berufstätigkeit bleibt ihr verwehrt. In Anbetracht des Umstands, dass folk horror auf Traumata der Vergangenheit, darunter auch Frauenfeindlichkeit zielt, überrascht es wenig, wenn das Projekt einer feministischen Umformung nicht so richtig funktionieren will

Konrad Schmids Predigt von 1522 in Luzern: Ein früher Schlüsseltext der eidgenössischen Reformation
No full textThe sermon by Konrad Schmid held on 24 March 1522 on the occasion of the procession to the Musegg in Lucerne in front of several thousand listeners, is the oldest printed sermon of the Swiss Reformation. It was printed by its preacher himself. It appears here in a slightly normalized copy with a translation into today’s German and a theological historical classification. Schmid was attacked by Lucerne clergy and defends himself in this pamphlet Antwurt and tries to continue the conversation about the new faith in Lucerne. The sermon expresses the findings of the Zurich Reformation in a concise and committed manner. It provides insights into the early Reformation preaching culture in Switzerland and testifies to Schmid’s great homiletic skills and to his artful language. At the Musegg – 15 days after the sausage dinner in Zurich – Schmid brought up many topics that became important for Reformed theology and the church. Schmid tries to gain the hearts of the listeners and, despite his partly revolutionary message, builds bridges to them. Zur Ambivalenz von Mutterschaft
Get PDFZum Thema Mutterschaft entstand nach der Publikation der Studie #regrettingmotherhood (Donath 2015) eine öffentliche Diskussion um ambivalente Gefühle in Zusammenhang mit Mutterschaft. Der Beitrag verfolgt die These, dass diese Ambivalenz lange tabuisiert worden ist und es an entsprechendem Vokabular und an Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten fehlt. Eine sprachliche Annäherung findet indessen in der aktuellen Literatur statt. Daher werden Schilderungen der Mutterschaftserfahrung in drei europäischen Romanen untersucht: Still leben (2018) von Antonia Baum, Sight (2019) von Jessie Greengrass und Toucher la terre ferme (2022) von Julia Kerninon. Eine Analyse der literarischen Erzählungen geschieht vor dem Hintergrund des kanonischen Texts der feministischen Mutterschaftsforschung Of Woman Born von Adrienne Rich aus dem Jahr 1976 und mit Rückgriff auf Richs Methode einer Kombination aus phänomenologischer Beschreibung und theoretischer Reflexion. Aus der Interpretation der literarischen Schilderungen ergeben sich Vorschläge für Beiträge zu Neukonzeptionen in der Mutterschafts- sowie der Bildungstheorie: (1) Der Eintritt in die Mutterschaft als Erfahrung der Entfremdung der Zeit, des Raums und des Selbst, (2) Mutterwerden als Identitätsbildungsprozess, (3) Gefühle des Versagens, der Wut und des Hasses korrelieren mit gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen, (4) Mutterliebe könnte als eine Summe von Handlungen und als bedingungslose Übernahme von Verantwortung gedacht werden
Réhabilitation esthétique d’un cas de dysplasie fibreuse maxillaire chez l’enfant
No full textFibrous dysplasia (FD) is a rare, congenital, benign bone dis- order in which healthy bone tissue is replaced by abnormal scar-like (fibrous) connective tissue. The lesions may affect one or more bones, including the jawbones. A 13-year-old girl vi- sited the dentist for failed eruption of her left maxillary perma- nent teeth and facial asymmetry. Radiological analysis revealed impactions of the permanent teeth in hypertrophic, hy- perdense, weakly trabeculated bone tissue. To restore the aes- thetics of the smile, a treatment combining decoronation and bonded restorations was performed. FD enlargement would slow down after puberty, allowing for long-term therapies. But there is no information about implantology in this type of bone lesion. The aesthetic and functional consequences of a maxillary FD should be managed as soon as possible. Treatment involves a multidisciplinary team and follow-up care into adulthood.La dysplasie fibreuse (DF) osseuse est une patho- logie osseuse rare, congénitale et bénigne dans laquelle le tissu osseux sain est remplacé par du tissu fibro-osseux. Les lésions peuvent affecter un ou plusieurs os, notamment les os des mâ- choires. Une adolescente de 13 ans a consulté pour des échecs d’éruption des dents perma- nentes maxillaires gauches et une asymétrie du tiers moyen de l’hémiface gauche. L’analyse ra- diologique a mis en évidence des inclusions des dents permanentes dans un tissu osseux hyper- trophique, hyperdense et faiblement trabéculé. Afin de restaurer l’esthétique du sourire, une prise en charge associant décoronation et res- taurations collées a été privilégiée. L’évolution de la DF aurait tendance à ralentir après la puberté, permettant ainsi de planifier des thérapeutiques à long terme dès la fin de la croissance. Cepen- dant, il existe peu de données sur le recours à l’implantologie dans le cas de lésions osseuses sclérotiques. Les conséquences esthétiques et fonctionnelles d’une DF maxillaire peuvent être majeures sur le plan bucco-dentaire. Leur prise en charge au cas par cas fait intervenir une équipe pluridisciplinaire, nécessitant un suivi de l’enfance jusqu’à l’âge adulte

Space, family language policy and invisibility of languages
No full textThis paper draws upon arguments about spaces as a central idea in order to understand language inequality and invisibility through the framework of family language policy. Tracing the history of sociolinguistic studies, space occupies a pivotal role whose importance has been revealed making contribution to many useful theories. Family language policy is the private sphere within the concept of space, long neglected, but renewed interest over the past 20 years has demonstrated in a sustained manner the tussle over the maintenance of the heritage language in the face of the host language. Language invisibilization within the family domain is not confined to heritage language and its accents but also to other non-reported languages, such as secret language and sacred languages. More in-depth empirical observations with new innovative methodologies are needed to understand the inequality and invisibility of languages at micro-level. The importance of the Family domain as the first place of socialization for children, compels us to seek a better understanding of spatially organized language practices and beliefs which have an impact on the whole upcoming generation.Notre article s’intéresse à l’espace, concept central permettant de traiter de l’inégalité et de l’invisibilité des langues dans le cadre de la politique linguistique familiale. Retracer l’histoire des études sociolinguistiques permet de montrer que le concept d’espace a largement contribué à la constitution de nombreuses théories désormais incontournables. La politique linguistique familiale s’intéresse à la sphère privée, « espace » privilégié longtemps non pris en compte jusqu’à ce que certains travaux conduits ces vingt dernières années démontrent l’importance de la lutte pour le maintien de la langue d’origine face à la langue d’accueil. L’invisibilisation de la langue dans le domaine familial va au-delà de la non reconnaissance de la langue d’héritage ou de ses accents, mais elle peut, dans certains cas, concerner d’autres langues non déclarées, telles que les langues secrètes et les langues sacrées. Pour appréhender l’inégalité et l’invisibilité des langues au niveau familial, il s’avère nécessaire de conduire des observations empiriques approfondies montrant des méthodologies novatrices. Pour les enfants, le domaine familial est le lieu incontournable de socialisation première, cela oblige le chercheur à appréhender plus finement les pratiques et les croyances linguistiques disséminées dans l’espace familial puisque les différents phénomènes ne seront pas sans effets à la génération suivante

The Ranking Argument - Challenging Favourable Comparative Rhetoric about Swiss Animal Welfare Law
No full textThis article captures and critiques a recurring and prominent political argument against animal welfare improvements in Switzerland which we term the “ranking argument”. This states that Swiss animal welfare law ranks among the strictest in the world, therefore no improvements are called for. This argument was advanced three times by Swiss government authorities in 2022 alone, but also in a case dating back to 1984, to advise the electorate on popular initiatives aiming at animal welfare improvements. We argue that, while the argument commits a fallacy of relative privation and is ethically dubious, it can be deployed to great effect by agents opposed to norm change in animal welfare regulation.
