Predictive stressors for the burnout syndrome in firefighters. A systematic review

    No full text
Firefighters are exposed to situations where decision making is constant and affects not only the lives of those they serve, but also their own. The aim of this study was to identify stress-related factors that may predispose to the development of burnout in firefighters. A systematic review following the PRISMA 2020 statement was carried out in the Web of Science, Science Direct, Scopus, and Pubmed databases. The literature search was conducted in August 2024. The methodological quality was assessed using the critical appraisal tools for studies of the Joanna Briggs Institute. A total of 34 studies were included in this review. Among the risk factors identified as being associated with burnout were years of service, low levels of self-compassion, language barriers, alcohol consumption, age, proactive and negative coping styles, work stress, perceived stress, compassion fatigue, previous mental health history, performance in an external environment, family responsibilities, satisfaction with standard of living, feelings of loneliness, sleep disturbance, and work uniform. In this population, protective factors against the development of burnout included proactive coping, physical activity, perceived social support, self-concept clarity, and resilience. A number of risk and protective factors have been identified as predisposing the emergence of the burnout syndrome. These stressors have the potential to impact the worker, resulting in occupational illnesses and injuries, poor compliance with safety measures, and the onset of sleep disorders. Such consequences may have serious implications for the worker’s physical and mental health, as well as the health and integrity of third parties.Sociología, Trabajo Social y Salud Públic

Characterizing the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick excited-state spectrum through the quantum coherence spectrum

    No full text
Excited-state quantum phase transitions extend the quantum phase transition concept beyond the ground state and offer insights into the complex behavior of quantum systems. In the present work we assess the use of the multiple quantum coherence spectrum as a valid tool to probe excited-state quantum phase transitions within the framework of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model. The time dependence and the long-time average of the multiple quantum coherence spectrum reveal the intricate dynamics that stems from the existence of singularities in the excited-state spectrum of a quantum many-body systemQ.W. acknowledges support from the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency under Grants No. J1-4387 and No. P1-0306, National Science Foundation of China under Grant No. 11805165, and Zhejiang Provincial Nature Science Foundation under Grant No. LY20A050001. Analysis of the Predictors and Consequential Factors of Emotional Exhaustion Among Social Workers: A Systematic Review

    No full text
Background: Emotional exhaustion, a central component of burnout syndrome, affects social workers due to adverse work factors such as excessive workload, work–family conflict, and a lack of social support. The job demands–resources and conservation of resources models explain how chronic stress influences these professionals. Methods: A systematic review was carried out using the recommendations of the PRISMA guidelines as a reference for the selection and identification of studies and the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines, registering the protocol in PROSPERO. Cross-sectional studies published from 1 January 2019 to 30 September 2024 were included and five main databases―Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Medline, and PsycInfo—were used to search for specific studies written in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Results: Of 361 initial records, 21 studies involving more than 24,000 social workers from diverse global settings were analyzed. The main risk factors identified were workload, work–family conflict, and work victimization. Resilience, self-care, and social support were highlighted as protective factors. Emotional exhaustion was associated with low job satisfaction, turnover intention, and mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Conclusions: Emotional burnout requires specific strategies, such as work flexibility, wellness programs, and organizational support. These measures can mitigate its impact, improving work–life balance and fostering resilience. This article has been co-funded by the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transfer in the framework of the Research and Transfer Policy Strategy of the University of Huelva (Spain) 2025.Sociología, Trabajo Social y Salud PúblicaG.I. Wound and healing encompasses the physiological process by which the body repairs damaged tissues. This process is divided into several phases: haemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodelling. Each phase is crucial to ensure proper healing and avoid complications such as infection. Sutures are techniques used to close wounds, facilitating healing and reducing the risk of infection. There are different types of sutures, each with specific indications depending on the type of wound and its location. The materials used can be absorbable or non-absorbable, and the choice of suture type depends on various clinical factors. On the other hand, dressings are used to protect wounds, promote healing and provide support to anatomical structures. There are several types of bandages, including compressive bandages, adhesive bandages and immobilising bandages. Each type has its specific applications and it is important to know the proper techniques for their application. In summary, proper wound management, correct use of sutures and application of dressings are essential skills for healthcare professionals, contributing to the recovery and well-being of patients.Enfermerí

A new procedure to validate and optimize 210Po measurements in atmospheric aerosols

    No full text
The exposure to air fine aerosols can cause health effects due to inhalations of alpha emitters such as 222Rn daughters. Lead-210 and 210Po are mainly associated to aerosols with median aerodynamic diameter lower than 1 μm. The 210Po is characterized by having a high radiotoxicity. The precise measurement of 210Po in surface air aerosols is usually quite complex due to the significant contribution of the 210Pb on their concentrations. Additionally, there is no possible means to manufacture a certified material to validate the measurements of 210Pb and 210Po concentrations in surface air aerosols. For these reasons, this study aims to develop a novel and comprehensive methodology to validate 210Po measurements in surface air aerosols by preparing in our laboratory “standard samples” with known activities of both 210Pb and 210Po. A detailed sensitivity analysis on the precision of 210Po concentration measurements has been carried out as a function of the involved variables such as sampling time, time elapsed between the sampling start and 210Po self-deposition and the 210Po/210Pb activity ratio in surface air aerosols. This study is necessary to find the optimum conditions for a precise measurement of 210Po in surface air aerosols. In addition, this methodology has been applied for the determination of 210Po concentrations in 30 samplings campaigns of atmospheric aerosols carried out at the El Carmen campus (Huelva province) from March 25th to July 15th, 2022. The results obtained for 210Pb and 210Po concentrations and atmospheric aerosol residence times (via 210Po/210Pb activity ratio) were consistent with other previous works. This research was partially funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Research State Agency (Ref.: PID2020-116461RB-C21), and the CSN (Nuclear Safety Council) projects with Refs.: SUBV-4/2022 (CLIMATOR) and SUBV-4/2021 (EXRADON)Ciencias Integrada

Sketching pion and proton mass distributions

    No full text
A light-front holographic model is used to illustrate an algebraic scheme for constructing a representation of a hadron's zero-skewness generalised parton distribution (GPD) from its valence-quark distribution function (DF) and electromagnetic form factor, FH, without reference to deeply virtual Compton scattering data. The hadron's mass distribution gravitational form factor, AH, calculated from this GPD is harder than FH; and, for each hadron, the associated mass-density profile is more compact than the analogous charge profile, with each pion near-core density being larger than that of its proton partner. These features are independent of the scheme employed.Work supported by: National Natural Science Foundation of China (grant no. 12135007); Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN grant no.
