This study examines TikTok’s impact on these aspects, specifically focusing on adolescent boys, a demographic that has been underrepresented in research. Given the scarcity of prior studies on this topic, we employed a qualitative, exploratory methodology. The study sample was purposive, comprising 15 pre-adolescents (ages 10-14) and 15 adolescents (ages 15-19). We conducted semi-structured interviews, which were subsequently transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis with MaxQDA software. Our findings indicate that TikTok can have both positive and negative effects on male adolescents’ self-perception of body image and self-esteem. Certain practices on TikTok were associated with increased body vigilance and changes in sports practices and eating habits. While excessive use of the platform negatively impacted self-esteem, the type of content consumed also played a significant role, leading to positive outcomes in some cases. These results contrast with previous studies focused on female adolescents, highlighting the importance of exploring the male perspectivePedagogí

Medicine is a rapidly evolving science and is based, in the Western world, on the so-called "scientific evidence", so that only drugs and techniques that demonstrate statistically significant efficacy and safety are used. Cardiology is a medical specialty in which the pressure for the development of new drugs and procedures is especially strong, given that cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the world, and new advances in this field affect a large part of the general population (McMurray JJ, 1998). In addition, in cardiology there are several subspecialties, which represent the most advanced level of knowledge in that specific part of cardiovascular pathologies. These cardiological subspecialties are usually: clinical cardiology, which focuses its efforts on the patient, as the central piece of all medical acts, and also seeks to strengthen the bridges of union with Primary Care so that the continuity of care favors their quality of life and life expectancy; hemodynamics and interventional cardiology, whose professionals are dedicated or have an interest in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, using endovascular approach techniques by catheter; arrhythmology has a special interest and involvement with rhythm and cardiac arrhythmias; finally, the heart failure section deals with cardiovascular health in the field of heart failure. This doctoral thesis is part of a research project that analyzes the effects of the latest techniques and the latest drugs on cardiac outcomes such as reduction of events, survival, improvement of quality of life. This has required analyzing different cardiological techniques and administering different drugs. The research projects that have served as the basis for developing this doctoral thesis have been approved by the Coordinating Committee of Ethics of Biomedical Research of Andalusia, Spain, and registered with the support of the Andalusian Beturia Foundation for Health Research (FABIS). For this project, a collaboration was established between the University of Huelva and the three hospitals in the province of Huelva, the Juan Ramón Jiménez University Hospital, the Infanta Elena Regional Hospital and the Riotinto General Hospital. In one study, other Spanish hospitals were also included: Albacete University Hospital, Mar Hospital in Barcelona, Virgen de Valme University Hospital in Seville, Alcorcón Foundation Hospital in Madrid, General Yagüe University Hospital in Burgos, Torrecárdenas hospital complex in Almería, Jaén hospital complex, Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona, Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria. To conclude, it's worth pointing out that the thread that ties this entire research together is innovation in cardiology. Contributing to the dissemination of these new drugs and techniques may represent a radical change in their quality and duration of life for the population with cardiovascular disease. Our research indicates that these new techniques are more effective and safer than traditional methods.Ciencias Integrada

The prevalence of prenatal tobacco exposure remains high in many countries, particularly in southern Europe. The aims of this study were to estimate the prevalence of smoking among pregnant women in a southern Spanish city (Seville) and to identify the associated sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics. In a descriptive, cross-sectional study, a random sample of pregnant women who were scheduled to undergo a morphology scan at their public referral hospital in their 20th week of gestation were interviewed in person. At the start of pregnancy, 38.2% of the pregnant women were smokers. In the twentieth week, 19.1% continued to smoke, and the same percentage had quit. The prevalence of smoking in pregnant women was higher among those with a low level of education (60% among pregnant women with no studies and 30.4% in those with primary education) and among those who had had abortions (38.5%). Pregnant smokers with obesity were the least likely to have given up smoking during pregnancy. Women with a lower educational level should be a prime target for cross-sectoral interventions aimed at preventing prenatal tobacco exposure. Implementation of support measures for providing effective clinical advice in preconception and prenatal care regarding healthy lifestyles is particularly needed. This research was funded by the research group on Health Promotion and Development of Lifestyle across the Life Span (code HUM604, University of Huelva, Spain), with funding received from the Scientific Policy Strategy of the University of Huelva and the Andalusian Plan for Research, Development and Innovation (PAIDI).Psicología Social, Evolutiva y de la Educació

As medical staff, orderlies are at danger of showing negative signs of psychological health. They are exposed to many stresses that may have a negative impact on their personal lives, and they have also been subjected to the difficult condition of COVID-19 in their workplace. However, since they are not considered to be medical professionals, very few studies and interventions are focused on them. The aim of the present research was to detect the interactions among the work and family environments, as well as to analyze self-perceived mental health and burnout in people who worked as orderlies during the pandemic in public healthcare centers in Huelva (Spain), considering a set of sociodemographic variables. The field work was conducted between April and June 2020. Systematic random sampling was carried out. Information from 84 contributors was gathered through the SWING, MBI-HSS, and GHQ-12 forms. Univariate and bivariate analyzes and correlation tests were carried out. The data were analyzed and correlations were established. The majority of the participants obtained a negative interaction result of work over family. Those who had had contact with SARS-CoV-2 situations presented greater proportions of positive outcome in GHQ-12, bad work-family interaction, burnout, emotional exhaustion, and depersonalization. The men presented a worse general mental health state than the women. Orderlies of Huelva who have had contact with COVID-19 in their workplace present worse indicators of psychological health and greater negative interaction of work over family than those who have not had any contact with these circumstancesEnfermeríaPedagogíaPsicología Social, Evolutiva y de la Educació

Psychological Empowerment (PE) is a multidimensional construct critical for understanding how individuals perceive themselves, interact with their environments, and take actions to influence outcomes. While traditionally conceptualised as encompassing intrapersonal, interactional, and behavioural dimensions, this study employs exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to evaluate and refine the theoretical framework for PE. The research aimed to address limitations in existing models, which often overlook the multidimensionality of empowerment, by developing a scale aligned with its three theoretical dimensions. Conducted in the context of the RETO 2024 global business simulation competition, this study surveyed 451 participants from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, analysing their experiences and perceptions of empowerment. The findings reveal that the empirical data support a two-factor model of PE rather than the originally hypothesized three-factor structure. The intrapersonal and behavioural dimensions converge into a unified factor—Cognitive-Behavioural Empowerment—capturing the interplay between self-perceptions and actions such as decision-making, leadership, and teamwork. The interactional dimension remains distinct, reflecting analytical and contextual skills essential for navigating complex environments. This refinement enhances the theoretical clarity and practical applicability of PE, providing a robust framework for evaluating and fostering empowerment in educational and professional contexts.
