Ett Sverige i miniatyr, ett Sverige i skrattspegel. Slyngstad Events som senfolkhemsk samhällssatir

The novel Slyngstad Events (2002) by Unni Drougge can be classified as a tall tale, i.e. a fictional, humorous story that is mostly meant to entertain. At the same time, the book contains a great deal of contemporary criticism: Åsabygden, a fictional area in Skåne where the story is set, suffers from the same problems as the late-modern Swedish welfare society in general and can be regarded as a Sweden in miniature. By analysing the novel\u27s strong and expressive characters, I want to show that the novel is not just an entertaining tale, but can be regarded as a social satire in which the individual actors represent different ways of life and values, but above all different weaknesses and shortcomings of citizens in the welfare state. In a broader sense, Slyngstad Events also appears as a story about a Sweden that is no longer a happy folkhem and a model country, but is being transformed into its opposite, a bizarre monster country, something I develop by interpreting the novel against the background of the various historical accounts of the Swedish folkhem. The purpose of this article is to add experience of co-production from a project in higher education, where the aim was the development of digital subjects in the field of sexual health. Observations of project meetings were analyzed with thematic analysis. Characteristics of the project such as management support emerged as there were expectations that participants were expected to work towards common goals in the project. The results showed that the co-production process was characterized by competence and information sharing between participants. The process was also characterized by positioning, in the sense that different professional prerequisites among the participants provided the basis for repeated discussions about the understanding and application of different theoretical perspectives and concepts. Specific professional interests and experiences influenced management and distribution of power in co-production both in the project manager groupmeetings and in the referencegroup meetings. Furthermore, the results highlight the need for open communication, shared goals and clear expectations for participation. The results indicate that co-production in the development of higher education can be demanding for both management and participants, but that at the same time there are opportunities to ensure evidence-based quality development based on the needs in the field of practice.

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to shed light on written assessment of nursing students regarding learning outcomes in practical placements. The research applies a qualitative descriptive design. The data consist of 100 assessment forms from placements in the specialist health service. An overview of which learning outcomes have received the most comments is provided. Inspired by Braun and Clarke a thematic analysis of the free text in the assessment forms was conducted. Knowledge related to the patient, nursing actions, individualization of learning outcomes, and students\u27 professional qualities are the themes presented in the findings. Medical diagnoses and nursing procedures are emphasised in patient assessments and nursing actions. We also discover that students are described positively as knowledgeable, clever, and active. The learning outcomes are specified and personalised through progression requirements.  The assessment forms indicate continuity in learning.

Lexical and cognitive development of children learning regional languages: Studies from the Netherlands

    Get PDF
Regional language speakers are subject to negative social judgments. In this contribution, I provide an overview of research in the Netherlands with children who are regional language learners against the backdrop of this deficit perspective. Findings on the lexical and cognitive development of children from Fryslân, a northern Dutch province, and Limburg, a southern Dutch province, demonstrate that regional language acquisition is neither associated with language delays nor with any cognitive difficulties. Linguistic overlap between Frisian and Limburgish, on the one hand, and Dutch, on the other hand, results in ample opportunities to share linguistic resources, experiences, and knowledge. Especially unbalanced children benefit from this cross-linguistic overlap because they can make use of their stronger language to perform in the weaker language. Cross-linguistic regularities between the regional and national language are helpful and support performance in the regional language. Results on cognitive effects suggest that regional language learners have some selective attention advantages. Although significant, the effects are small, the advantages do not last long, and they require sufficient exposure to and proficiency in the regional language

    No full text
The cruise was part of the GlaciBar (Glaciations in the Barents Sea Area) project (PetroMaks project funded by The Norwegian Research Council, Statoil, Det Norske and BG Norway) and the recently funded Center of Excellence for Gas Hydrate Environments and Climate (CAGE) (funded by The Norwegian Research Council) The objectives of this cruise were: Examine and map marine features connected to the last deglaciation of the Svalbard/Barents Sea Ice Sheet (SBIS) in the northwestern part of the Barents Sea, within the Storfjordrenna, south of Spitsbergen. Mapping spatial distribution of glacial rafts in the central Barents Sea. Map and study the field of depressions/craters in the central Barents Sea, which are linked to gas hydrate eruptions following the deglaciation of the region. Perform coring in order to improve the postglacial chronology and understanding of the dynamics related to the deglaciation of the Barents Sea area. Perform subsampling of free “head space” gas for further geochemical studies within sediment cores. The cruise may be known as: CAGE13_K

From the afternoon of July 21st to the morning of July 29th 2014, CAGE at the Department of Geology Uit, the Arctic University of Norway, arranged a scientific cruise with teaching (GEO3144/8144- Arctic Marine Geology and Geophysics Cruise) aimed at investigating and teaching students about the western Svalbard margin, methane seep sites at Vestnesa and Storfjorden Trough and the Barents Sea on R/V “Helmer Hanssen”.  Investigated areas were (in order of visiting sites on the cruise): Vestnesa Ridge, the west Svalbard slope, Storfjorden Trough, Storfjorden and western Barents Sea. The scientific sampling was done within the framework of several ongoing projects at the Department of Geology, University of Tromsø: “CAGE – Centre for Arctic Gas hydrate Environment and Climate”, in which the sub-projects “Paleo-CIRCUS”, “OA-Ocean Acidification” is included. A total of 11 gravity cores, 7 box-cores (with a total of 18 sub-samples retrieved), 9 plankton net casts and 16 CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) casts were performed at Vestnesa Ridge, Storfjorden Fan, Storfjorden Trough, Storfjorden and the western Barents Sea, respectively. All gravity cores were logged onboard by magnetic susceptibility loop sensor for stratigraphical purposes and educational purposes. Chirp profiles and multibeam echo sounder lines were acquired during transits and during surveys of Storfjorden and several pockmarks at the Vestnesa Ridge. A total of 129 lines were collected during transits and during surveys. A total of six seismic lines were performed with the airgun. The cruise may be known as: CAGE14_4_CO2_GE

    No full text
The overall goal of cruise CAGE 16-6 is to collect seismic, multibeam and water column data on the W-Svalbard margin and in the outer parts of the Storfjord Trough. The objectives associated with the overall goal are to better understand the occurrence of gas hydrates and fluid leakage, the source of the gas in these systems, and seafloor expressions of fluid seepage. In order to address these objectives we plan to carry out: P-Cable 3D seismic acquisition over gas hydrate and fluid flow areas with potential abiogenic gas sources;P-Cable 3D seismic acquisition over gas-hydrated pingo structures in the Storfjorden Trough;Recovery of 5 OBS stations that were deployed at the Lunde pockmark in October last year for long-term monitoring of microseismicity;Acquisition of additional OBS seismic data to fill gaps in existing data on the eastern segment of the Vestnesa Ridge;2D multi-channel seismic for reconnaissance and stratigraphic correlation;Multibeam mapping to fill in gaps and improve resolution of existing data using the upgraded EM302 system on R/V Helmer Hanssen;Water column mapping of gas flaring on the Vestnesa Ridge using the upgraded EM302 system on R/V Helmer Hanssen The cruise may be known as: CAGE16_

Narrative selfies and player–character intimacy in interface games

    No full text
This paper discusses the use of selfies in narrative-driven interface games, that is games that place the narrative within fictionalized interfaces resembling those of computers or smartphones, as methods of creating intimacy between the characters and the player, while simultaneously maintaining the player’s separateness as a witness of personal stories, rather than their active actor. The article analyses how inter-character and player–character intimacy and emotional distance can be negotiated through the implementation of selfies into the narrative within interface games. The inherent intimacy of such games, which often tell personal stories of people of marginalized identities, is juxtaposed with the constrictions on the player’s agency—both in the overall gameplay and in their inability to take the selfies themselves. Three games are discussed according to three frameworks used to discuss selfies as noted by Gabriel Faimau (2020): a dramaturgic lens (the selfie as self-presentation), a sociosemiotic approach (the selfie as an art of communication), and a dialectical framework (selfie as a social critique)
