Using senses through the sensory organs (the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin) makes the learning experience effective, meaningful and unforgettable.     Focus: To listen to the Arctic Ocean’s sounds and to learn about the Arctic Ocean’s biodiversity, particularly near cold seeps. We will experiment with creating new sound expressions inspired by the Ocean. For pupils with hearing impairment, pupils can create a bodily expression of this and/or use instruments they are comfortable with. Learning objectives: With this activity pupils will start to understand: The multitude of sounds audible in the Ocean and near to cold seeps at the sea-bed. That the oceans, including the Arctic Ocean, harbors great biodiversity. What an oceanographic ship is, and the anthropic sounds related to it. Key words: Ocean research, exploration, human/non-human relationship within ocean, sounds, place, noise.Фокусуємося на: звуках Арктичного океану та його біорізноманітті, зокрема біля холодних просочень. Ми будемо експериментувати зі створенням нових звуків, натхненних океаном. Для учнів з порушенням слуху можна створити тілесний вираз цього або використовувати інструменти, з якими їм комфортно працювати. Цілі навчання: З цією діяльністю учні почнуть розуміти: багатство звуків, які чутні в Океані та біля холодних просочень на морському дні. біорозмаїття, що мають океани, включаючи Арктичний. що таке океанографічний корабель і які антропогенні звуки пов’язані з ним. During this short time, the centre has established itself as a world leader in gas hydrate-related environmental and climate research. This achievement was recognised by our highly successful midway-evaluation in 2017, where significant funding was secured from the Norwegian Research Council for another five years

    CAGE13-7 Cruise Report: Gas Release Activity & Underwater Landslide Research Cruise

    The overall aim of the CAGE 13-7 cruise was to study the gas release activity from gas hydrated sub-seabed environments at the continental margin off Svalbard towards the Norwegian-Greenland Sea  and Arctic Ocean. Acoustic measurements in the water column, water sampling for gas analyses, seismic profiling, bathymetry mapping, and sediment coring allowed to reach this aim. Generally, the water column above gas flares may be rich in methane but methanotrophic microorganisms might hinder an escape of methane from the water to the atmosphere. At the Molloy transform and the Vestnesa ridge we collected seismic data and sediment cores for sampling gas hydrates. We also took sediment cores from a submarine slide complex at the continental margin of NW Svalbard. The age of this slide is of interest because it sits on gas hydrated sediments as indicated by a BSR. The timing of the slope failure is unknown. At the massive Hinlopen slide area we surveyed the eastern sidewall, the toe of the slope and a block within the major slide debris flow area to understand better a potential coupling between slide processes and gas hydrates. Seismic profiles show bottom simulating reflectors that are indicative for gas hydrate underneath the southeastern headwall of this slide complex. The cruise may be known as: CAGE13_J

    CAGE20-3 Cruise Report: Geochemical and Sedimentological Investigation into Ingøydjupet, Håkon Mosby Mud Volcano and the Sorvestnaget Sand Waves

    This expedition ran between July 28 and August 3 2020, targeting three sites in the Barents Sea, an area of glacial landforms in Ingøydjupet trough, the Håkon Mosby Mud Volcano and the Sorvestnaget Sand Wave area. Our short but productive expedition gave three post-doctoral researchers the opportunity to follow a research hypothesis from conception through planning and data collection aboard the research vessel, as well as plan and lead a research expedition. At the Ingøydjupet and Håkon Mosby Mud Volcano study areas, our objectives were to collect cores for geochemical analyses of the area and bathymetry data for geophysical analyses while the objectives at the sand waves are were to collect a time-lapse multibeam survey and grab samples for sedimentological analysis The cruise may be known as: CAGE20_

    CAGE20-6 Cruise Report: Pore-fluid pressure and heat flow surveys along the Vestnesa Ridge, west-Svalbard continental margin

    The research cruise was the third expedition under the SEAMSTRESS project, supported by the Tromsø Research Foundation and the Research Council of Norway, through their starting grant schemes. We departed from Tromsø and started the surveys after 3 days of transit to the Fram Strait. We focused on the Vestnesa ridge and an elongated depression with fluid flow features north of the Knipovich ridge.The main purpose of the cruise was to conduct an experiment using Ifremer piezometer for measuring sediment pore fluid pressure along the margin. The pore fluid pressure experiment was complemented with an exhaustive heat flow survey using the newly acquired heat flow probe by CAGE and the Department of Geosciences at UiT.     CAGE16-4 Cruise Report: Recovery of observatories and water column survey offshore Svalbard

    The cruise occurred from May 1st to May 9th 2016 and was part of the Centre of Excellence for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate (CAGE) at UiT – The Arctic of Norway. The main goal of the cruise was to recover two observatories that were deployed on June 30th and July 2nd 2015 during CAGE 15-3 (chief scientist Anna Silyakova). The sites were selected according to pictures taken during CAGE 15-2 cruise (chief scientist Giuliana Panieri) illustrating bacterial mats on the sea floor. The exact locations   were decided just prior to deployment according to flare locations. The present cruise also aimed at investigating an area of extensive flares western Svalbard, particularly the shallow shelf and shelf edge. The addressed scientific topics include quantification of methane concentration in the water column, dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, microbial activity and identification, nutrients, DMSP, CDOM and current amplitude and direction.     Playing on life\u27s terms: Behavioral strategies for changing situations

    This article sheds light on the changes to play habits when there is not as much time or possibilities to play as before. The research is based on a survey and interviews of Finnish former active players, who now played less or had quit some game types they used to enjoy. Most of the respondents still played something, but the playing had changed on the level of games, playstyles, time management, and content. These changes were then used as behavioral strategies to keep gaming as a part of the changing lives: shifting to lighter options, integrating playing into everyday life, redefining co-play, and focusing on opportunities. The results highlight the complexity and continuity of the changes and negotiations, and further hint at how the borders of casual and hardcore playing are fluid and mixed. This complexity and fluidity of play should be the starting point of a game design that must be heard in the public and academic discourses around gaming

    Sprogholdninger i center og periferi

    Artiklen præsenterer resultaterne af en undersøgelse af underbevidste sprogholdninger til lokale, regionale og københavnske stemmeprøver i en mindre by og et lokalt center i Sønderjylland og Nordjylland. Resultaterne er vidt forskellige. I Nordjylland er der ikke store forskelle mellem vurderingerne i center og periferi, her er sprogbrugen ikke vigtig for vurderingerne, til gengæld vurderes drengestemmer konsekvent mere positivt end pigestemmer. I Sønderjylland vurderes de lokale, dialekttalende stemmer positivt i den mindre by, imens de københavnske stemmer opvurderes i det lokale center. Resultaterne tolkes inden for rammerne af sociolinguistic change (Coupland 2009) og ses som en afspejling af forskelligartede samfundsudviklinger, der har medført forskellige grundlag for sproglig opmærksomhed og for brugen af lokal sprogbrug. Resultaterne gør det muligt at fremsætte hypoteser om, at regionale nordjyske træk formentlig vil blive brugt også i fremtiden, hvorimod sønderjysk dialekt brugt som umarkeret hverdagssprog formentlig ikke har nogen fremtid
