The background of this article is the Covid- 19 pandemic, and its impact on quality of the clinical placement for students. The aim was to explore student’s experiences with clinical placement, during the Covid-19 pandemic. The article has a qualitative design with digital interviews. The analysis resulted in three major themes: unclear guidelines, a change in everyday study life and variations in learning outcomes. This article indicates that the Covid-19 pandemic affected the quality of the clinical placement for the students in a noticeable way. The student`s experiences shed a light on the already existing challenges posed by traditionally conducted clinical placement, such as clearly defined responsibilities, follow-up and enough training in sufficiently similar situations to those encountered in their future occupation. Despite these challenges, most of the students finished their clinical placement, learning valuable lessons from the specific circumstances caused by the pandemic.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to gain an in-depth knowledge of young women’s experiences with receiving contraceptive counselling from healthcare professionals, and to examine which factors that influence their choice of a contraceptive method. Methods: The study has a qualitative research design. Ten individual semi-structured interviews were conducted. The participants were young women aged 18-25 who used contraceptives and lived in Norway. Data were analysed using systematic text-condensation. Results: Some women were satisfied with the contraceptive counselling they received, and experienced being cared for. Others experienced the counselling as deficient and received limited information about the safety of contraceptives, side-effects and alternative methods. Furthermore, they did not experience the counselling to be tailored to their individual needs. Women’s choices of contraceptives were influenced by factors such as the safety of the method, administration, potential side-effects, friends and healthcare professionals. Conclusion: The study revealed a potential for improvement in the counselling the young women received. The women experienced being met by healthcare professionals who showed little interest, and who lacked the knowledge to give them the information they needed. Furthermore, the women\u27s decisions were influenced by several factors, which may be an advantage for healthcare professionals to be aware of. The study contributes knowledge that is relevant to midwives, health nurses and doctors in their future work with contraceptive counselling of young women.
Collaboration between higher education institutions and the practice field is important for students’ learning in clinical placement. This study is part of a larger project that seeks to strengthen the collaboration between educational institutions and the practice field through the use of joint appointments. The purpose of this sub-study is to explore the experiences of lecturers and nurses holding joint appointments in the project. Data was collected in spring 2021 through focus group interviews and analysed using conventional content analysis according to Hsieh and Shannon. The results show that working together in a team of joint appointments fostered a positive sense of community around supervision of students, based on a deeper understanding of each other’s roles. Furthermore, the participants experienced improved collaboration between the educational institution and the practice field. Uncertainty about one’s roles in the beginning of the placement period gradually resolved over time. The study was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the collaboration and forms of cooperation. A key factor for successful outcomes is commitment to these positions at all levels in both organisations.
Humor och feministisk aktivism i litteratur och andra medier: Bianca Kronlöf och Liv Strömquist
Bianca Kronlöf recently debuted as a writer with a manifesto against men\u27s violence. Even though this work figures as a contribution to societal debate, it clearly exhibits traces of Kronlöf\u27s feminist humor. Liv Strömquist is known for her feminist satires in form of graphic novels, in which she associates humor and biting feminist criticism with historical, philosophical and sociological theories. In my text, I examine the specifically feminist in their humor and how they utilize it to promote their (feminist) goals. Furthermore, I will answer the question of whether humor is an adequate means for feminist activism.
While recent studies in feminist theory are acknowledging the importance of feminist humor in jokes, stand-up and literary works, there have not been many studies on graphic novels yet. By paying special attention to such lesser researched media, as well as the combination of different media by the activists, I will show how these cultural practices are a rich medium for ambiguous articulations of humor as multi-leveled cultural expression and an excellent vehicle for feminist ideas.
Right and Wrong Ways of Knowing: The Dictionary Craze and Conflicts of Learning in Eighteenth-Century Europe
This article explores how the eighteenth-century ‘dictionary craze’ – the explosive proliferation of alphabetically organized reference works – can be understood as part of a wider conflict of learning. Drawing on a wide mix of sources, I show that dictionaries, more than any other factual genre of the time, challenged established conventions about what constituted right and wrong ways of reading, learning, and ultimately knowing, and that this was a crucial reason for both the controversy and success of the genre.
After an overview of early modern norms of learning, the article examines how eighteenth-century disagreements about factual dictionaries challenged, reproduced, and reconfigured older views. By encouraging readers to follow their own curiosity, read in whatever order they liked, form their own opinions, remember temporarily, forget, and return when needed, dictionaries deviated from established ideals of disciplined study and ‘digestive’ reading, which held that ‘true’ knowledge was deeply incorporated in the individual. The dictionary’s claim to be a ‘shortcut’ to learning also fueled discussions about the very meaning of ‘knowing’, and how much the road to learning could be shortened without missing the goal

On the field with social science and humanities participatory research: Some examples of community engagement from the COESO project
Citizen science is a well-established domain in many scientific disciplines. Far less is known about the practices of citizen science in the social sciences and humanities. The COESO project is fostering and highlighting citizen science practices in the social sciences and humanities. Ten European-based case studies – ”pilots” – reporting on specific challenges have fed the COESO project: five of them began at the beginning of the project in January 2021, while the other five were chosen through an Open Call process in early 2022. Each pilot presents a distinct type and model of collaboration between different kinds of stakeholders, addressing specific societal issues. This diversity has contributed to generating knowledge on challenges and innovative knowledge sharing practices found within participatory practices in the social sciences and humanities research fields. The project promotes developing synergies between practices found within various social sciences and humanities disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, political science, and the arts, with practices employed by non-academic professionals working on societal issues. The 10 pilots provide a platform for collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and citizens, allowing for the co-creation of new knowledge and innovative solutions to pressing societal challenges.
The aim of this poster is to show the different engagement strategies co-developed with researchers and community members to involve active citizen participation in the research, as well as the actions and creative outputs carried out to raise awareness of the projects and maintain the interest of participants. From initial stakeholder mapping, information management, data collection and storage to communication and dissemination of results, each pilot has deployed a unique engagement strategy, making COESO an excellent repository of information on the different ways of fostering community engagement with citizen science through social science and humanities initiatives. By showcasing the diversity and potential of these pilots, this poster invites further exploration and collaboration in the exciting and evolving domain of citizen science in the SSH
