No full textRESUMO: O artigo mostra que Erico Verissimo constrói uma trajetória literária que vai do regional ao universal, sempre comprometida com a crítica social e histórica. Incidente em Antares é apresentado como a culminância desse percurso: uma obra que une sátira, grotesco e realismo histórico para denunciar a opressão e reafirmar o valor da liberdade.

ABSTRACT: The article shows that Erico Verissimo builds a literary trajectory that ranges from the regional to the universal, always committed to social and historical criticism. No full textABSTRACT: In this essay, through an Arendtian approach, the investigation takes Erico Verissimo's novel itself as an "incident" that questions us about the right to have rights, revealing the degree of naturalization with which a social group accepts the denial of fundamental human rights and coexists with the deprivation of rights for some, as a tacit fact. Contemporary to the social machinery of the many antares around the world, the "incident" points to the opposite; it functions as a link and rupture of reality with which Verissimo orchestrates an emblematic ending: the living lose to rubber; while the dead, perhaps, by their condition of being past, win.

RESUMO: Neste ensaio, por meio de uma abordagem arendtiana, a investigação toma o romance de Erico Verissimo em si como um “incidente” que nos interroga sobre o direito a ter direitos, desvelando o grau de naturalização com que um grupo social aceita a negação aos direitos fundamentais humanos e convive com a privação dos direitos de alguns, como um dado tácito. Contemporâneo à engrenagem social das antares pelo mundo, o “incidente” aponta para o avesso; funciona como elo e ruptura da realidade com o qual Verissimo orquestra um final emblemático: os vivos perdem para a borracha; já os mortos, talvez, por sua condição de pretérito, vencem.

No full textABSTRACT: This article proposes a reflection on the place of Erico Verissimo (1905-1975) in Brazilian Literature, reviewing canonical critical positions and establishing a comparison between his urban novels (published between 1933 and 1943) and Honoré de Balzac's Comédie Humaine (published between 1829 and 1850). The aim here is to analyze the work of the Brazilian writer through a parallel with Balzac's work and the ideas on the novel genre of György Lukács and Anne Carson.

RESUMO: O presente artigo propõe uma reflexão acerca do lugar de Erico Verissimo (1905-1975) na Literatura Brasileira, revendo colocações da crítica canônica e estabelecendo um comparativo entre os seus romances urbanos (publicados entre 1933 e 1943) e a Comédie Humaine, de Honoré de Balzac (publicada entre 1829 e 1850). Busca-se aqui uma análise da obra do escritor brasileiro a partir do paralelo com a obra de Balzac e das ideias sobre o gênero romance de György Lukács e Anne Carson.

No full textExploring Topic Modeling in Short Texts from Social Media: a Comparative Analysis of Algorithms
No full textMany texts are broadly disseminated on online social media platforms each day. Topic modeling is a Natural Language Processing and Unsupervised Learning technique used in this scenario. It identifies the topics in a collection of texts — that is, the most relevant groups of words in the context of all the texts are analyzed. The characteristics of the texts are a relevant factor for identifying topics. Unlike traditional sources, texts published on social media are usually short, because even when a character limit per publication (e.g., Twitter/X) is not imposed, users tend to be objective in the texts they write. This work evaluates the performance of four categories of topic modeling algorithms: traditional, Dirichlet Multinomial Mixture (DMM)-based, self-aggregation-based, and global co-occurrence-based. Real texts generated by social media users were used for the evaluation. Model performance was evaluated using quality metrics accepted in the literature. Finally, the results were analyzed such that the performance of each algorithm was weighted down, and to clarify whether there would be any detriment to the results of topic modeling using traditional algorithms on short texts
