Supramolecular chemistry in solution and solid–gas interfaces: synthesis and photophysical properties of monocolor and bicolor fluorescent sensors for barium tagging in neutrinoless double beta decay
Translation of photophysical properties of fluorescent sensors from solution to solid–gas environments via functionalized surfaces constitutes a challenge in chemistry. In this work, we report on the chemical synthesis, barium capture ability and photophysical properties of two families of monocolor and bicolor fluorescent sensors. These sensors were prepared to capture barium cations that can be produced in neutrinoless double beta decay of Xe-136. These sensors incorporate crown ether units, two different fluorophores, aliphatic spacers of different lengths, and a silatrane linker that forms covalent bonds with indium tin oxide (ITO) surfaces. Both species shared excellent Ba2+ binding abilities. Fluorescent monocolor indicators (FMIs), based on naphthyl fluorophores, showed an off–on character in solution controlled by photoinduced electron transfer. Fluorescent bicolor indicators (FBIs), based on benzo[a]imidazo[5,1,2-cd] fluorophores, exhibited a significant change in their emission spectra on going from the free to the barium-bound state. Both FMIs and FBIs showed similar photophysics in solution and on ITO. However, their performance on ITO was found to be attenuated, but not fully extinguished, with respect to the values obtained in solution, both in terms of intensity and selectivity between the free and Ba2+-bound states. Despite this issue, improved performance of the FBIs based on confocal microscopy of the directly attached molecules was observed. These selective FMI and FBI chemosensors installed on tailor-made functionalized surfaces are promising tools to capture the barium cations produced in the double beta decay of Xe-136. The identification of this capture would boost the sensitivity of the experiments searching for the Xe-136-based neutrinoless double beta decay, as backgrounds would be almost totally suppressed.Financial support for this work was provided by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European's Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (H2020 ERC-SyG 951281), by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (Grant PID2023-151549NB-I00, funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by FEDER, EU) and by the Gobierno Vasco/Eusko Jaurlaritza (GV/EJ, Grant IT-1553-22). Guest molecule dynamics and ferroelectric transition in a clathrate compound
Low molecular weight glass formers encapsulated within clathrate structures offer a singular testground
to study the intricate interplay of confined molecular motion and ferroelectric properties. Using
broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS), we investigate the dynamic behavior of 1-propyl-1H-imidazole
within a supramolecular enclosure formed by duad semicage p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene. Unlike the bulk
liquid, where the dielectric spectrum is dominated by the structural relaxation, the clathrates paraelectric
phase reveals two distinct molecular relaxation processes. Aided by quantum chemical calculations, the
slow process is assigned to head-to-tail reorientations of the guest molecule, while the faster process
arises from intramolecular fluctuations of the imidazole ring. These dynamics freeze as the system
transitions to the ferroelectric state via a second-order phase change that has been characterized by
photopyroelectric calorimetry.Basque Government Project IT1458-22 and from project PID2023-150255NB-I00 from MCIU/AEI/10.13039/5011000-11033/FEDER-UE

The emergence of cash distributions in the civic euergetism of the Roman imperial east
Individualised distributions of money by civic benefactors, in the form of coinage, were a common feature of public life in Greece and Asia Minor under Roman imperial rule, from the 1st to 3rd centuries CE. However, the chronological specificity of this practice, as opposed to the distribution of other types of commodities (e.g. grain, oil), has not often been noticed. This paper first suggests that public euergetic distributions of coinage only seriously emerged as a social phenomenon in the early 1st century CE, before relating their emergence from this point to several factors inherent to the transformation of the Roman state at this time: the influence on the local elite of imperial ideology, particularly in cash handouts carried out at Rome, and developments in the monetary and fiscal history of the region.

Wind farm analysis using SailoR diagram-based diagnostics to quantify yaw misalignment correction
This study introduces a novel application of indices derived from the SailoR diagram for detecting and
correcting yaw misalignment in wind turbines, which involves an original visualization of principal component
analysis. The angular disparity between principal components, visualized as ellipses on the SailoR diagram,
serves as a metric for comparing deviations between anemometers within a designated group (External
Deviation index) and between the turbine’s anemometer and its yaw angle system (Internal Deviation index).
A normalized criterion, incorporating anomalies in power production (Power Bias index), yaw angle, and
absolute angle deviation, is established to compare the error of each turbine relative to its respective
group. By integrating these indices with the general deviation of each turbine, the analysis effectively
discriminates between external and internal error sources and quantifies the magnitude of each deviation. A
case study involving a real wind farm with three distinct turbine groups demonstrates the efficacy of this
integrated methodology as a valuable tool for initial diagnosis, enabling the identification, discrimination
(internal/external), and quantification of yaw misalignment. This study is part of project PID2020-116153RB-I00 fundedby Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación/Agencia Estatal de InvestigaciónMCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033.
The article investigates an aspect of space exploration with an impact on politics, culture and social identities: corporate futurizations, embodied in SpaceX, of the project of human colonization of space, especially Mars. Relying on an archive built with testimonies of experts and workers involved in space projects, reports, books and documentaries, the article begins by presenting some novelties and conditions -technological, political, economic and legal changes- of the current space race. Next, simulation is explored as a fundamental practice for imagining space futures, and then the vision of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is explored as a specific case of imagining the colonization of Mars. In this sense, the interrogation of corporate forecasts and desires allows us to reflect on the current dynamics between colonial logics and space futurizations (defined in the article with a neologism, “corporate terrasocioformation”), seeking to understand what kind of space identity is configured, and what kind of relationship it establishes with Earth. In closing, a critique that feeds other images of spatial future are discussed
[EN] Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) represent a serious emerging public health problem affecting sexual and reproductive health worldwide. Gonococcal infection, caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, is the second most common bacterial STI after Chlamydia trachomatis. In recent years, its incidence has increased significantly in our country, with the Basque Country being the second most affected autonomous community after Catalonia. Currently, gonococcal infection is treated with antimicrobials, however, the appearance of strains resistant to these is increasingly common. For this reason, it is essential to carry out molecular epidemiological surveillance to provide us with information about the clones circulating in our environment. One of the typing methods frequently used is the NG-MAST scheme, due to its discriminatory power and its high degree of reproducibility and ability to relate strains. Despite its advantages, new techniques are being introduced with the aim of speeding up this process. Recently, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) has begun to be used as an alternative typing technology. This method has been successful in different bacterial species; however, few studies have been carried out with N. gonorrhoeae.
Our work aimed to characterize N. gonorrhoeae isolates from the year 2023 using the NG-MAST scheme and to test whether FTIR spectroscopy is feasible with this bacterium. The results obtained show that FTIR is not yet useful as a typing method for gonococcus, as we did not observe any correlation with the NG-MAST scheme. Because N. gonorrhoeae shows pleomorphism, it is necessary to further investigate this promising technology and to include different analytical approaches in the future

[EN] Knowing how teams act when they score can help to propose better strategies and optimize the planning of training
sessions. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the differences in the goals scored by the first teams (n = 11, goals =
398) and reserve teams (n = 5, goals = 242) of the same football league (Third Federation, group VII, Madrid,
Spain). To record the goals, the observational methodology was used via CODITAG instrument. For analysis, the
Chi-square test was applied in a general way, and the Z test at a particular level, comparing the proportions of the
goals, and correcting the p values using the Bonferroni method. At a general level, significant differences (p < .05)
were obtained in the criteria “contextualization of the last action” and “last contact surface”. At a particular level,
the results reflected that the reserve teams differed from the first teams by achieving a lower proportion of their
goals in set-piece actions and in attacking plays that led to completions or involved headed assists. However, they
achieved a higher proportion of goals in game situations where the player who scored received a pass outside the
box, as well as in finishes with the right foot, or that involved the use of 2 or more contacts. Coaches of reserve
teams and coaches who face reserve teams should consider these finding
