At the Boundaries of Europe, from the InterWar Period to Post-Second World War: Turkey and Europeanism

    No full text
This chapter delves into Turkey´s evolution and its European-leaning identity as a state situated on the fringes of Europe during the specified period in the title, up the early 2000s. Examining Turkey´s political and social trajectory from the collapse of the Ottoman Emipre to the dawn of the new millennium, it underscores the persistent Eurocentric perspective that the Turkish Republic has embraced since its inception. Founded by President Ataturk, the Republic´s visionary, through decisive decree, this orientation has undergone gradual evolution over time. Additionally, the chapter comtemplates the challenge of unanimously delineating the boundaries of this venerable continent

Innovative Stent Test Specimen by Additive Manufacturing for Reliable Mechanical Testing and Simulation

    No full text
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality globally, underscoring the importance of reliable treatments such as cardiovascular stents, which prevent arterial collapse and improve blood flow. Despite their widespread use, stents face challenges in mechanical performance and biological compatibility. This study focuses on the mechanical characterization of biodegradable metallic stents, addressing limitations in current testing methods and simulations. Novel specimen geometries, designed for tensile strength testing, were developed using additive manufacturing (AM) to minimize damage from gripping clamps during testing. Finite element modeling simulations and experimental tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical behavior of stents under ideal and real-world conditions. The results revealed that the values provided by the most common mechanical tests and simulations do not correspond to the actual values of the meshed structure. The proposed geometries demonstrated consistent mechanical behavior, effectively mitigating stress concentrations and enabling reliable data acquisition. These findings highlight the potential of AM in stent testing and validate the integration of experimental and simulation approaches for optimizing stent design and performance. This study establishes a framework for future research aimed at improving stent safety and reliability

Conceptual model of Enchereda aquifer system (La Gomera, CanaryIslands): contributions to other volcanic islands

    No full text
Hydrogeological conceptual models are difficult to develop in volcanic islands due to scarce hydrogeologic information in the inner parts of the islands and the complex structure of volcanic materials. This complexity is increased by 1) destruction processes (for example, flank collapse) and 2) dike intrusion. Dikes can both channel groundwater flow parallel to their general trend or act as barriers impounding it. In this paper we evaluate the role of dikes and volcanoclastic deposits in Enchereda aquifer system (La Gomera, Canary Islands) regional flow and particularly, in its higher area. In this aquifer system three hydrostratigraphic units can be identified: the Lower Old Basalts, with low permeability; the Volcanic Breccia, impermeable; and the Upper Old Basalts, permeable. The breccia seems to act as the impermeable limit of the aquifer and the reconstruction of its geometry shows a coherent surface dipping about 13 degrees towards the ESE what determines the regional flow in the aquifer. After dike mapping using aerial photograph and orthophotograph as well as mapping in the field and inside Ipalan water tunnel, four dike swarms have been identified. NW-SE dikes are the most frequent ones, and show a maximum density of more than 10 dikes/100 m, similar to rift zones in volcanic islands. These dikes are parallel to the regional flow and channel water flow whereas the N-S and NE-SW swarms impound groundwater rising the water table level forming a stepped surface as they are perpendicular to the regional flow. Lastly, W-E dikes seem to have little influence on the aquifer. Our results show the need of a re-evaluation of the role of dikes in the regional flow in other volcanic island aquifers in which their influence have been minimized as overlapping of different dike swarms can condition regional flow in the aquifer

Can Motherhood Be Promised? Immoral Promises, Surrogate Gestation, and Law as a Performative Act in Reinach’s Work

    No full text
This chapter tackles the legal complexities of surrogacy through a distinctly innovative perspective: Adolf Reinach’s Theory of Promise. By applying a phenomenological framework rarely explored in contemporary legal discourse, the analysis offers a novel conceptual foundation for understanding contractual obligations in the context of assisted reproduction. The research was conducted within the project Be Better Informed About Fertility, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme (Grant Agreement No. 872706).Reinach’s treatment of promises transcends mere private intentions. A promise, he argued, is a binding act that establishes a social relationship. When we make a promise, we address someone else, and their acknowledgment completes the act. The act of promising establishes a social relationship and carries legal implications. Reinach’s insights prompt us to delve more deeply into the problem of immoral promises and the role of immorality both in the sphere of legal a priori and in the realm of positive legality. As a case study, we turn to the contentious issue of surrogacy contracts. These agreements, often morally charged, exemplify the complex interplay between promises, morality, and legal validity.Project Be Better Informed About Fertility, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme (Grant Agreement No. 872706)

La formación de las mujeres en la Historia reciente española. Una revisión desde la Ley Moyano

    No full text

Approach to nursing diagnoses of people with myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome: a qualitative meta-synthesis

    No full text
Objective To identify human responses (diagnostic foci) that shape the experience of living with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and how they manifest throughout the course of the illness. Methods A qualitative meta-synthesis was conducted. Original studies exploring the experience of living with ME/CFS in adults with a confirmed diagnosis, published in English or Spanish between 1994 and June 2024, were included. The literature search was carried out in Medline/Medline In-Process, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SCI-EXPANDED, SSCI, SciELO, Lilacs, and Cuiden. Data analysis was based on the human responses (diagnostic foci) from the NANDA-I Nursing Diagnoses Classification, 2021–2023, with findings structured according to Fennell’s Four-Phase Model. Results A total of 42 articles were selected. Twenty human responses (diagnostic foci) and three classes of the NANDA-I Nursing Diagnoses Classification were identified, interwoven across the different phases of the model. Some responses were present throughout all phases, while others, such as Energy Balance and Health Self-Management, became particularly relevant from Phase 2 onwards. Phases 3 and 4 were characterised by losses and processes of subjective reconstruction, with diagnostic foci such as Sorrow, Spiritual Distress, and Personal Identity being predominant. Conclusions The identified human responses (diagnostic foci) highlight how the contested and chronic nature of ME/CFS profoundly shapes the lived experience of those affected. The model derived from this review provides a structured framework for targeted nursing interventions, aligned with the phase each individual is experiencing. This work was supported by Second Prize for the Best Research Project in Care at the Third Edition of the Puerta de Hierro Awards for Research in Care [grant number HUPHM_2°PREMIO_2018]

Mapping the cognitive structure of the field of dynamic teams: A co-word analysis

    No full text
Although the relevance of the dynamic nature of teams has generated a thriving literature, contributions have originated from a variety of disciplines. This situation has hindered scholarly understanding and collaboration. To assess the state of the dynamic teams’ field in an unbiased and comprehensive way, a literature review relying upon bibliometric techniques combined with content analysis was conducted. Considering all disciplines that have examined the subject, this study aimed at defining its knowledge structure, identifying its main research lines, methods, and key theoretical framework. Results revealed eight research lines. Teams/teamwork, membership change, performance, dynamic team, and membership change were found as the motor themes. In turn, decentralised control, access control, multi-robot system, and distributed system were found as themes that are either emerging or disappearing. The latter themes, related to the engineering and computing fields, are emerging and are likely to become central and developed. Future research lines are suggested

THE NARRATOR'S PERSPECTIVE IN TRUE CRIME The Urban Guard Case in TV3 and Netflix Productions

    No full text
True crime is currently experiencing significant fervor and controversy due to its ethical implications, particularly concerning the narrator's authority. This article examines how new and varied true crime narrators alter audience perceptions of recounted events. Employing a threefold methodology—historical context, comparative analysis of three narrations of the same case, and interviews with creators—the study focuses on the urban guard crime in Barcelona. Analyzed productions include TV3's Crims, Netflix's docuseries Las cintas de Rosa Peral, and the fictional series El cuerpo en llamas. The findings test a proposed typology of narrators, revealing how narrative choices influence audience perception and emotional response

Juan de Lugo’s theory of property as a precedent for John Locke

    No full text
This paper revise Juan de Lugo's theory of property (1583-1660) to compare it with the later one developed by John Locke in the Second Treatise of Government. We will maintain the hypothesis that there are original common points between Lugo's property theory Locke's that either had not appeared in the preceding scholastic authors or had only been suggested. Specifically, we will refer to three aspects: first, the assignment of property to the category of natural law; second, both consider that the appropriation process occurs through work and, third, the two authors reject the need for consensus for this appropriation. Finally, we will see the disagreements in property theory between Locke and Lugo. In addition, this article contextualizes Lugo's contributions on property both in the scholastic tradition and in the rationalist natural law of Grotius and Pufendorf
