A novel estimation procedure for robust CP model fitting
No full textThe usual way of parameter estimation in CANDECOM/PARAFAC (CP) is an alternating least squares (ALS) procedure that yields least-squares so- lutions and provides consistent outcomes but at the same time has several deficien- cies, like sensitivity to the presence of outliers in the data, slow convergence, and susceptibility to degeneracy conditions. A number of works have addressed these weaknesses, but to our knowledge, there is no outlier-robust procedure that is hi- ghly computationally efficient at the same time, especially for large data sets. We propose a robust procedure based on an integrated estimation algorithm, alternative to ALS, which guards against outliers and is computationally efficient at the same time

No full textThis article is devoted to sounds, voices, calls and cries as defined and conceived in the early Arabic lexicographic tradition (8th–9th century). It discusses the first evidence for the use of the Arabic term ṣawt (pl. aṣwāt) in the Qurʾān and early lexicons. It then examines direct and indirect accounts of the transmission of the Kitāb al-aṣwāt—especially those attributed to Quṭrub (d. 206/821), al-Aṣmaʿī (d. 216/831) and Ibn al-Sikkīt (d. 244/858)—as well as some chapters devoted to the subject in coeval multi-thematic lexicographical works such as those of Abū ʿUbayd al-Qāsim ibn Sallām
(d. 244/838) and of the later Ibn Qutayba (d. 276/889). Taken together, the information that emerges from all these texts displays the many shades of meaning that the aṣwāt have taken at the beginning of Arab-Islamic cultural history

No full textIl contributo propone un’analisi della narrazione dell’esperienza del COVID a Wuhan nei primi mesi del 2020 proposta dalle due serie televisive Heroes e With you realizzate a ridosso della conclusione del primo lockdown cinese. L’esame sarà svolto individuando gli elementi comuni alle due serie nella descrizione dei protagonisti delle serie e il modo in cui dialogano con personaggi e fatti reali, anche alla luce delle presentazioni offerte dai produttori televisivi alla stampa e pubblicate su riviste specializzate o riviste di partito. Al fine di capire se questa esperienza sia considerata in Cina come un trauma culturale, le serie sono, quindi, qui considerate come spazi di interpretazione dell’esperienza individuale in senso collettivo, discorsi in cui la memoria esercita un ruolo fondante nella definizione dell’io sociale e culturale

No full textIl presente volume raccoglie gli Atti del Convegno internazionale "Forme dell’abitare / Forme del transitare. Adattamenti, traslazioni, contaminazioni linguistiche e letterarie in Europea centrale e orientale", svoltosi presso il Dipartimento di Studi Letterari, Linguistici e Comparati dell’Università di Napoli “L’Orientale”. Gli studi qui proposti analizzano, in una ottica interdisciplinare, le nuove forme dell’abitare, della convivenza e del transitare che hanno caratterizzato città come Berlino, Varsavia, Vilnius, Tallinn, Budapest e Tirana in seguito alla caduta del Muro e che ora, sotto la spinta di flussi globali e della ridefinizione delle strategie politico-sociali, pongono nuovi problemi. La prospettiva linguistico-letteraria, inoltre, fornisce una visione che scardina il concetto di centro e rende importanti storie e luoghi da troppo tempo considerati periferici
RAS MS Hodgson 67. Missing Pages of the Hetubinduṭīkā by Arcaṭa
No full textThis paper contains the critical edition of eight passages of the manuscript Hodgson 67 kept in the Library of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland in London. The first passage is a new critical edition of the beginning portion of the Sthirasiddhidūṣaṇa by Ratnakīrti, namely the part covered by the first folio of the manuscript. The other seven passages are excerpts of the Hetubinduṭīkā by Arcaṭa. Excerpts 3–8 are particularly significant since they allow us to bridge the first six major lacunae of the printed text (pp. 5–6, 16, 20, 25, 48, and 117)
