Digital 3D reconstruction as a research environment in art and architecture history : uncertainty classification and visualisation
Get PDFMany unresolved challenges surround source-based 3D reconstruction in archaeology, art, and architectural history. In this context, here we focus on evaluating source-based 3D reconstructions, emphasising uncertainty assessment of destroyed or never built artefacts. Key questions address expressing and sharing uncertainty in data models, examining the efforts to define standards for 3D models ensuring authenticity, transparency, and accessibility. Various strategies for visualising uncertainty are discussed, aiming to establish uniformity. The study also advocates for sharing models via virtual research environments, promoting open access and complying with Linked Open Data principles

No full textIRT thermography is often used to assess the presence of areas affected by moisture in the built heritage site. It is a NDT used especially in cultural heritage to analyze degradation caused by moisture phenomena. Crucially, it is essential to begin this analysis from the individual materials that make up the masonry, such as brick, mortar and plaster (where present). The study is then useful to recreate a curve to correlate the process of moisture diffusion in space and time in hygroscopic materials, using two experiments: absorption from rising damp and wet sponge contact, to characterize evaporation rate and moisture content. The goal is to improve the testing procedure by standardizing and normalizing the measurement of moisture content. It is therefore necessary to identify wet and dry areas in the porous material affected by moisture in the structure. In the first step, a qualitative image can be obtained by means of temperature maps and then, after data processing, a quantitative analysis of the results is drawn. The laboratory tests presented here were carried out as part of an extensive investigation of the rising damp problem in Venice, with the possibility of applying these standards in situ as well, despite the possibility of encountering greater difficulties arising from the many boundary variables (environment, structural variations)

Marseille were established in areas with limited
access to freshwater, yet both are located
within regions where the presence of the Alps
enabled its abundant extraction. While these
territories share certain characteristics, they
also exhibit contrasting relationships with
water, often framed by paradoxes. There are
similarities between the two forms of water
rationale: centuries-long self-sufficiency based
on rainwater wells (Venice) and on
groundwater resources (Marseille) has been
obliterated since the XIX century through the
construction of modern water infrastructure. At
the same time, the surrounding territories have
followed a very different development in
relation to the use of water. A comprehensive
understanding of these dynamics requires
analysing both anthropic and non-anthropic
systems, transcending the natural versus
cultural duality. Water emerges as a critical
element shaping and keeping alive landscapes
and ecologies, as a fundamental matter of the

Just the thinking of its gardens finds the exceptionality of the making what has deep roots, reacting to many difficulties and creating new models of sustainability at the same time.
Here the continuity of an indissoluble relationship between artifice and nature is evident, as well as the ability to interpret environmental conditions for the definition of resilient architecture and settlements.
In limiting, cultivating, inhabiting, we recognize the specificities of an island made by various depths, related to the being and the making, physical, historical and cultural depths that return the ability to withstand adversities by practicing an adaptation which conforms the built and cultivated landscape.
The Hidden Depths workshop focuses on the prefiguration of some useful conditions for a sustainable redevelopment of the urban centre of Pantelleria, founding that on the interpretation of the island’s specific traditions in cultivating and building to inhabit a difficult and sometimes hostile place, conformed by the continuous limiting or indulging of environmental factors

Get PDFIl profilo di una città si modella a partire dai meccanismi combinatori delle composizioni algoritmiche di P-021, 1970-1983, di Manfred Mohr: solo una mano si intromette, assecondando o disattendendo la costruzione di enigmatiche geometrie che hanno l’aria di essere urbane. Trame immateriali organizzano luoghi immaginati da un intelletto imperscrutabile, sintesi delle operazioni digitali in grado di costruire un inventario di oggetti significanti solo nelle possibili relazioni computerizzate. Diversi gradi di uno stesso artificio coesistono, manifestandosi nell’apparenza di una struttura di segni programmati: per Mohr è attraverso il costante controllo del processo informatico che si sfrutta al massimo il dialogo uomo-macchina in termini progettuali.
