From Library to Exploratory: rethinking the narrative of materials through interaction design
No full textMaterial libraries have traditionally played a fundamental role in the collection and cataloguing of materials, offering designers and researchers a tool for analysing technical and performance properties. However, their static structure and informational rigidity pose significant limits on the ability of these resources to support dynamic and circular design practices. In response to these critical issues, this paper proposes a rethinking of material libraries through interaction design, transforming them from simple archives into exploratory devices capable of conveying the complexity and narrative value of materials. Through a comparative analysis of 25 physical and 32 digital material libraries, the study identifies the main limitations of existing models, including the lack of multisensory interaction, the difficulty in integrating experiential data, and the poor connection with local production contexts. The proposed approach aims to overcome these barriers through interactive storytelling models that highlight the biography of materials and their connections with production and cultural processes. The conceptual shift from Library to Exploratory implies a revision of archiving and usage methods, introducing systems that allow for more fluid and contextual navigation of material information. Emerging digital platforms demonstrate the potential for more engaging interaction, but still have limitations in terms of data fragmentation and lack of immersive experiences. The paper discusses how a hybrid model, integrating the physicality of the tactile experience with the possibilities of interactive technologies, can offer new opportunities for the understanding and conscious use of materials in design. Through the proposal of a design framework for interactive material libraries, the paper explores the implications of this new approach for contemporary design, highlighting the role of interaction design in redefining the ways in which materials are accessed, explored and understood. The research thus contributes to the construction of an innovative model of use, capable of supporting circular design practices and promoting a deeper awareness of materiality in the creative process

No full textThe recognition of cultural values of military heritage, through appropriate enhancement actions, can trigger a stimulus effect giving social and economic benefit for the communities, activating the acknowledgement of new values and awareness. The paper describes contents and strategies of the research proposal “The lagoon and the World War I. Memory and inclusive fruition of the entrenched camp in Mestre (Venice)” aimed at developing an enhancement model for the second-generation forts, military batteries and powder magazines composing the defensive network constructed between 1907 and 1912 at strategic points of the Venetian mainland, consisting of Fort Rossarol, Fort Poerio, Fort Mezzacapo, Polveriera Bazzera, Fort Sirtori, Fort Cosenz and Fort Pepe. The research deals with the documentation, cataloguing and cultural promotion of the disused military heritage, connecting the forts through digital and physical routes linked to slow and sustainable mobility, broadening the visitor experience and the understanding of memory places

No full textIl contributo propone un’analisi dei manufatti in vetro romani rinvenuti nel 1756 presso la barena di Fusina (Venezia), che sono stati descritti dettagliatamente da Tommaso Temanza in un’opera dedicata alla ricostruzione storica e geomorfologica della laguna di Venezia. Grazie al confronto con analoghi manufatti in vetro provenienti da contesti funerari attestati nel Veneto, riconducibili alla prima età imperiale, vengono fatte alcune considerazioni sul contesto di riferimento da cui questi manufatti sono stati prelevati, alla luce di una più ampia valutazione delle dinamiche insediative attestate nell’area indagata.

The contribution proposes an analysis of Roman glass artefacts discovered in 1756 near the Fusina sandbanks (Venice), that were described in detail by Tommaso Temanza in a work dedicated to the historical and geomorphological reconstruction of the Venice Lagoon. Thanks to a comparison with similar glass artefacts from funerary contexts attested in the Veneto region, that can be traced back to the early imperial age, some considerations are made regarding the reference context from which these artefacts were taken, in the light of a broader evaluation of the settlement dynamics attested in the area under investigation
Futura. Progettare la transizione degli spazi scolastici attraverso il PNRR “Nuove scuole”
Get PDFIl contributo propone una ricognizione dell’iter del bando di finanziamento PNRR per la realizzazione delle Nuove scuole: Avviso pubblico prot. n. 48048 del 2 dicembre 2021 – Missione 2 ‘Rivoluzione verde e transizione ecologica’ – Componente 3 ‘Efficienza energetica e riqualificazione degli edifici’ – Investimento 1.1 ‘Costruzione di nuove scuole mediante sostituzione di edifici’. A partire dalla rilettura delle linee guida di progetto del gruppo di lavoro (cap. 2) si tracciano gli indirizzi della scuola del futuro e del suo rapporto con la città. A seguire, si presentano i due principali momenti di messa a bando. Il primo vede la candidatura degli edifici scolastici da demolire e ricostruire da parte degli enti pubblici, con uno sguardo alla scala nazionale delle principali geografie di ricaduta dei finanziamenti (cap. 3). Nel capitolo seguente si rilegge il concorso di progettazione tramite l’esperienza interna ad un gruppo di professionisti, in cui ho avuto occasione di collaborare come architetta esperta degli spazi scolastici e didattici (cap. 4). Seguendo i soldi nelle diverse fasi, si cerca di far emergere potenzialità e criticità di un sistema di finanziamento che si propone di coniugare il progetto della transizione educativa con quella ecologica e digitale. Il bando si presenta come un tentativo di tenere insieme una prospettiva futura dichiarata con una realizzabilità in tempi serrati, dei principi di buona progettazione a regia nazionale ma radicati al territorio, multidisciplinari ma specifici nei loro requisiti tecnico-quantitativi, inclusivi ma universalistici
Producing the Factory: Architecture and Space of Industrial Work in Italy
No full textThe renewed relationships between technical, economic, and product philosophy aspects have therefore introduced formal codes and repertoires capable of translating the relationship between space and labor triggered by the new production processes.
The materials and expressive languages were consequently profoundly changed by a representation of industrial work that sought to translate the new symbolic meanings in which the new Italian corporate culture recognized itself.
These new conditions propose new themes and issues for Italian architecture.
It therefore seems legitimate to ask whether the spatial paradigms of the modern Italian factory still represent a reusable foundation for architectural design.
Provisionally adopting Jacques Gubler's intuition that it is the bay in its ‘initiating valence’ that can be considered a type, that is, a sort of reusable spatial preform that acquires formal significance through juxtaposition. The ‘principle of the bay’ as a reinterpretable modern archetype takes a compositional value, a direction for the architectural research for industry building projects
