No full textThis book illustrates a research addressing the reuse of building products and components as a circular and sustainable strategy for the management of the
existing building stock. It builds upon the twofold potential these processes disclose, since, by fostering the material resources conservation, they both limit
the impacts of construction and demolition waste and preserve, along with the formal and functional integrity of an element, the material culture that shaped it.
Starting from the theoretical framework and the state of the art, the research is structured in three complementary trajectories, aiming to depict this complex
theme through a cross-cutting perspective and to define the contribution of reuse processes to sustainability – meant not only in environmental terms, but in
social, cultural, and economic sense as well. The first trajectory examines the significance that contemporary practitioners identify in reuse practices, highlighting how they acknowledge, along with meanings of environmental, ethic, social and creative nature, also a cultural value. The second one addresses the inconsistencies and legal vacuums that the European legal framework concerning the topic shows, recognising the drawbacks they induce on the supply chain. The third trajectory examines the possible application of this strategy at the urban scale, defining the Reuse Design Project as the “design process which, from the concept of a new building until its construction, considers, studies and accomplishes the integration of reclaimed building products and components that the designer identifies and considers as fit for the project”.
Ther findings allow to determine the suitability of the reuse of building products and components as a sustainable instrument for the building stock management,
promoting the adoption of this approach. They identify the underlying cross-cutting motivations proving how reuse practices contribute to enriching
the built environment, the possible actions to undertake in the normative and policy fields, and the operating instruments supporting the Reuse Design Project
effectiveness.
The analysis and discussion highlight the innovative nature of this design approach, of the involved professional figures and the deconstruction process
management, also outlining the cultural transition necessary to promote this strategy in architectural practice

No full textLa complessità del reale e la limitatezza delle risorse mostrano il fallimento di una concezione organizzazione “rigida” dell’ambiente costruito incapace di adattarsi ai continui mutamenti, i cui cicli sono diventati sempre più brevi e intensi. La vulnerabilità (ambientale, economica e sociale) porta il “sistema costruito” a riorganizzarsi in conseguenza degli eventi stressanti per raggiungere accettabili livelli di efficienza o a mostrare la sua fragilità, facendo saltare i concetti di stabilità (sicurezza ambientale, economica e sociale) cui siamo abituati. Di fronte a questa domanda particolarmente articolata, più che decidere se demolire, trasformare o conservare, il progettista è chiamato a “progettare processi rigenerativi” dei sistemi edilizi e dei contesti nel loro complesso.
Sebbene la letteratura riconosca la necessità di strumenti di previsione degli impatti, appare sempre più importante affiancare strategie volte a incrementare l’adattabilità intesa come una caratteristica del
sistema progettato che ne permette la trasformazione o modificazione, incrementandone le qualità prestazionali nel tempo. Le pubblicazioni selezionate riportano esperienze di ricerca sui temi dell’adattabilità e flessibilità, analizzando approcci all’applicazione di questi requisiti e approfondimenti relativi alle varie scale di attuazione. In primis, alla scala dello spazio interno e delle sue attrezzature: adattabilità del sistema spazio-arredi all’evoluzione delle esigenze dell’utenza, anche per compensare le perdite di abilità delle persone più fragili (gli anziani) e garantire il più alto grado possibile di autonomia e autosufficienza. In secondo luogo, alla scala dell’edificio: rigenerazione del patrimonio abitativo secondo un processo adattivo alle variabili esterne (condizioni climatiche) e interne (utenze). Infine, alla scala urbana: adattabilità degli spazi urbani alle esigenze di una popolazione prevalentemente anziana che richiede soluzioni migliorative delle proprie condizioni di benessere
The DANUBIUS-RI supersite of Po delta and North Adriatic Lagoons: a living lab on transitional environments in the Adriatic Sea
No full textThe International Centre for Advanced Studies on River-Sea Systems “DANUBIUS-RI” is a pan-European Research Infrastructure (RI) developed to support the Research and Innovation (R&I) needs to achieve healthy River-Sea Systems (RSSs). DANUBIUS-RI's Mission is: to facilitate and contribute to excellent science on the continuum river-sea; to offer state-of-the-art research infrastructure to develop a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary dialogue between river and marine research communities; and to provide the integrated knowledge required to sustainably manage and protect RSs. The DANUBIUS-RI Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda surveyed the major needs from the research community, defining the RI Research Goals. DANUBIUS-RI superintends ten Supersites corresponding to the major European RSs. Each Supersite provides an integrated infrastructure made of optimized observational systems, modelling and forecasting systems, toolboxes, living labs, and services to investigate issues connected to the interaction processes between continental and marine systems. This paper describes the Italian Supersite “Po Delta and North Adriatic Lagoons (Venice and Marano-Grado)”, which focuses on coastal transitional environments within the RSs. We present the structure of the Supersite, the interconnections with the international Nodes, in particular the modeling and observational capability and the data management, and the strategy for teaming up an interconnected community of researchers and stakeholders. The infrastructure aims to enhance the observational (in-situ and remote) and modelling capability in the area for improving the quantification of water, sediment and nutrient loads from the rivers and their influence on the coastal zone. Data and information will form the basis of a digital representation of the Po Delta and North Adriatic Lagoons to support a set of services for managing the RSSs and advancing the blue growth in coastal zones
Effort in Aesthetic Appreciation: from Avant-Garde to AI
No full textThis paper starts from the debates on whether the seemingly effortless creation
of AI artworks, and by extension some avant-garde pieces, diminishes their artistic value. This leads to a broader inquiry into how effort, or the lack thereof, influences our
perception of an artwork’s quality and significance. Traditionally, effort in art has been
seen in two ways. On the one hand, a skilled artist’s work, which may appear effortless, is often valued for its apparent ease, reflecting genius or inspiration. On the other hand, the Romantic era highlighted the artist’s internal struggle, shifting emphasis from technical proficiency to emotional and intellectual effort. Contemporary empirical research seems to confirm the existence of an “effort heuristic”, suggesting that artworks perceived as requiring more effort are generally valued higher. Finally, this paper suggests defining a notion of “distributed effort” as a category for the appreciation of content and artworks that are the product of complex influences, traditions, and technological advancements. In conclusion, this paper suggests that we must investigate the possibility of “artificial effort” in AI-generated art

Nella prima, attraverso una conversazione tra studiosi di diversi ambiti disciplinari, si esplora la transizione come concetto e, in seguito, il suo possibile ancoraggio progettuale.
