No full textLa casa accessibile rappresenta un obiettivo fondamentale per la rigenerazione urbana e territoriale, intesa in senso proprio, cioè non limitata alla sola dimensione spaziale, ma includendo anche quella sociale e ambientale. In prospettiva la politica della casa si connota sempre più connessa alle politiche di welfare, finalizzate ad assicurare un riequilibrio delle diseguaglianze sociali e spaziali ormai in crescita nella città contemporanea

Full text linkQuesta tesi di dottorato guidata dalla pratica artistica dell'autrice esplora l'evoluzione della danza concettuale in Europa, in particolare a partire dalla metà degli anni Novanta, attraverso la lente delle teorie neomaterialiste, e del dibattito proprio dei dance e performance studies. La ricerca esamina come i coreografi Jérôme Bel, Xavier Le Roy e Cristina Kristal Rizzo abbiano sfidato le nozioni tradizionali di rappresentazione, corpo, scena e scrittura coreografica. La ricerca analizza le loro opere e i loro approcci pedagogici, concentrandosi sui concetti di presenza, corporeità, virtualità, e sulla relazione tra performer, spazio e pubblico. Infine, la tesi esplora il modo in cui queste pratiche coreografiche si confrontano con questioni ecologiche ed etiche più ampie relative al movimento, allo spazio e al nostro rapporto con le agentività umane e non umane in esso attive, culminando in un ricaduto artistico che comprende lo sviluppo di una riflessione e di una pratica pedagogica intitolata 'La danza dello sfondo'; in un video che documenta lo svolgersi di tale attività intitolato “Beloved at Dawn - il giardino di Alba”, e uno strumentario terminologico derivato dall'analisi di tale attività di trasmissione.This doctoral thesis, guided by the author's artistic practice, explores the evolution of conceptual dance in Europe, particularly from the mid-1990s onwards, through the lens of neo-materialist theories and the debate of dance and performance studies. The research examines how the choreographers Jérôme Bel, Xavier Le Roy and Cristina Kristal Rizzo have challenged traditional notions of representation, body, stage and choreographic writing. The research analyses their works and their pedagogical approaches, focusing on the concepts of presence, corporeality, virtuality, and the relationship between performer, space and audience. Finally, the thesis explores how these choreographic practices engage with broader ecological and ethical questions relating to movement, space and our relationship with the human and non-human agents active within it, culminating in an artistic output that includes the development of a pedagogical reflection and practice entitled ‘The Dance of the Background'; in a video that documents the unfolding of this activity entitled “Beloved at Dawn - the garden of Alba”, and a terminology toolkit derived from the analysis of this transmission activity

No full textVi è una profonda e biunivoca corrispondenza tra le forme spaziali di un territorio, le sue caratteristiche sociali e le sue reti energetiche. Spazio e società orientano necessariamente la distribuzione e i modelli di produzione dell’energia, ma altrettanto l’opportunità e il livello tecnologico di un elemento della rete ha un effetto locale e regionale sugli abitati e sulle relazioni. Le reti energetiche innervano la produzione, il consumo e la sostenibilità energetica di un’area, sono sistemi complessi di generazione, trasmissione e distribuzione di energia, risultano al contempo geometrie strategiche e punti di fragilità del sistema. Le reti energetiche usano, consumano e modificano lo spazio: comprendono infrastrutture fisiche come centrali elettriche, linee di trasmissione elettrica, sottostazioni, reti di distribuzione e impianti di stoccaggio energetico. La trasmissione e la distribuzione di energia avvengono attraverso una serie di interconnessioni che consentono il flusso dell’energia da fonti di produzione ai consumatori finali. Le reti non sono ideologicamente neutre, ma vengono sviluppate secondo concezioni topologiche anche molto diverse. Lo studio del sistema energetico regionale, comprensivo della scelta delle fonti e della misurazione dell’efficienza energetica attuale e potenziale, è fondamentale per valutare la capacità di un territorio a raggiungere la neutralità climatica
Bio-Based Materials to Foster Efficient Retrofitting of the Existing Building Stock
No full textIn 2019, the European Commission started to introduce politics to decrease environmental impacts to achieve the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Within the many different policies, the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus are the ones that contain indications and guidelines for the member states to ensure that Europe becomes the first climate-neutral continent. Following this, to implement the Green Public Procurement (GPP), Italy instituted the Minimal Environmental Criteria (CAM) for public works, which help to identify better environmental design solutions by considering the whole life cycle of works, as well as other ‘traditional’ parameters, like costs and ease of execution. In Italy, mandatory CAM for public procurements is a first step in encouraging construction solutions and designing projects that pay attention to sustainability aspects. Indeed, in Italy, there is a huge number of constructions that were built between the post-World War II period and the 1970s, and these are inadequate if compared to contemporary requirements in terms of functionality and energy consumption. The intrinsic value of these buildings sometimes is neglected since they are not listed as heritage sites, but they are bearer of an indelible socio-cultural worth for the community, arose from the role they played to answer specific needs in periods of housing emergency and spread. Given their constructive systems, there is the need for substantial upgrading operations, able to preserve their value while answering today’s requirements. A possible strategy to achieve this, while keeping buildings’ value and improving the sustainability of the whole construction supply chain, is to enhance the use of renewable – and more specifically bio-based – materials. Starting from these assumptions, this contribution will first undertake an analysis of the state of the art on bio-based construction materials, with the aim of understanding which benefits there can be in their use compared to using traditional components. Second, the focus will be placed on cork and hemp, which are beginning to be more commonly used as thermal insulating materials. Afterwards, the possible criticalities of these materials will be analysed considering different aspects, for example, policies, costs, cultural aspects, technical prescriptions, and design features. Finally, a focus on studies and research that aim at further promoting cork and hemp use in retrofitting works by overcoming possible issues – costs, supply chain, availability – will be presented; this will help to better understand which aspects to focus on in future research on bio-based materials applied to the renovation of the existing building stock

No full textNon bastano poche righe a raccontare come il discorso sulla vita activa della Arendt si colleghi e si intrecci continuamente con il problema della libertà dell’individuo; qui basti forse rilevare che si trattò, all’epoca, anche di ricollocare in una prospettiva differente la relazione distorta e sinistra che a questa relazione forniva il motto Arbeit macht Frei (il lavoro rende liberi) che accoglieva i deportati nei campi di concentramento. Ma di tutte le accezioni, sfumature, aggettivazioni possibili di labor, non può sfuggire la stretta connessione che vi è tra la parola labor (inteso come work) e la parola laboratorio, (workshop) la quale indica prima uno spazio particolare e poi un metodo di lavoro che connota l’agire intellettuale e creativo come quello della ricerca all’interno di una comunità fisica
Tertiary-Expressive Qualities for Design
No full textThis chapter deals with tertiary-expressive properties and aims to define, from a Gestalt psychology point of view, the key concepts for design practice.
In the first part of the chapter, a theoretical framework of the tertiary qualities is presented. Starting from Galileo Galilei’s epistemological distinctions between primary and secondary qualities, and the philosophical reflections on the categorization of experienced qualities of Edmund Husserl, I reach the scientific definition of “tertiary qualities” according to Gestalt psychologists. Besides the contributions of Wertheimer, Köhler, and Koffka, Metzger’s theoretical systematization of the “ways of being of qualities” is taken as a major reference, and the conceptual distinction between tertiary qualities, expressive qualities, aufforderungscharakter, and affordances is finally discussed.
The second part of the chapter aims to present the expressive properties in design practice. Two modalities of perceptual communication - the perceptual communication mediated by signs versus the perceptual communication through expressive qualities - are distinguished by means of three antinomies: i) indirect perception versus direct perception, ii) cross reference versus presence, and iii) subjectivity versus universality. Subsequently, it is analyzed how expressiveness is conveyed by single properties (such as shape, size, color, etc.), by objects, and by relationships between objects and their context. In particular, the cases of expressive plurivocal objects (i.e. objects that convey different expressive properties at the same time) are focused. The chapter continues by presenting several design cases with expressive properties in the intermodal and emotional fields, taking as examples both the design of products and communicative artifacts.
In the conclusions, the difference in the use of expressive properties in design and art is discussed
