The Census of Rural Buildings in the Italian Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia
The census of rural buildings in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region has highlighted the centuries-old existence of a building repertoire articulated for each of the landscape areas of the Friulian territory. The variety of building types testifies to man's adaptation to the environment, and the careful use of the land has mitigated the anthropogenic impact on natural resources, allowing sustainable forms of housing. The phenomena of abandonment and the slow processes of deruralization of some areas, resulting from the war events and natural disasters that devastated Friuli in the last century, are contributing to widespread renaturalization processes generated by low anthropogenic pressure. The latitudinal succession of woods, meadows intended for high-altitude grazing, terraces where fruit growing and viticulture have specialized over time and, in the flat part, the typical forms of polyculture, have made it possible to decline the settlement dynamics in unique forms of housing connected to agricultural work. However, for several decades these territories have discovered their own tourist vocation, and some of those houses have been converted into accommodation facilities. Therefore, the use of data from this census, integrated with information on the relationship of rural buildings with the landscape context, can support targeted research and cross-sectional analyses aimed at protecting the property from possible exposure to situations of natural or anthropogenic risk
LED-pumped room-temperature solid-state maser
: Room-temperature MASERs (Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) amplify electromagnetic waves at microwave frequencies with minimal noise. We demonstrate a cost-effective LED-pumped maser using pentacene-doped para-terphenyl as the gain medium. Here, we show that LED light, which is brightness-enhanced and guided via a cerium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet luminescent concentrator, achieves persistent maser emission at 1.45 GHz with a duration of 200 μs and a microwave output power of 0.014 mW, surpassing previous non-laser pumped systems. Operating at low voltage, the LED-pumped maser ensures safety, reduced costs, and simple integration. Potential applications include sensitive magnetic resonance imaging, portable atomic clocks, quantum technologies, and enhanced deep-space radio astronomy
Embryos not showing pronuclei by single static observation arise from atypical pronuclear dynamics or rare unfertilized oocytes with abortive cleavage behaviour
Preserving Gresleri’s Works. (Dis)Continuity and methodological transfer.
This contribution explores the relationship between conservation practices aimed at ensuring the transmission of the
Glauco Gresleri’s legacy, using as a case study the Church of the Beata Vergine Immacolata (BVI) in Bologna, included
in the catalogue Censimento delle architetture dal 1945 ad oggi promoted by the Ministry of Culture, as a significant milestone
in the ecclesiastical architecture, being the first example built according to the Lercaro-inspired principles of new
experimental liturgical actions. Through direct and indirect investigation, the collection of oral sources, and the study
of the relationship between the BVI and its community, a Conservation Management Plan is currently being developed.
At present, the condition of the building — particularly the exposed concrete elements — requires the planning of
diagnostic investigations and analyses in order to design a conservation intervention that is appropriate to the value
of the work and the cultural meanings attributed to it

Adoption of Lean Manufacturing in Italian Mechanical Engineering Industry: Impacts on Sustainability and Barriers to Implementation
This study explores the adoption of Lean Manufacturing within the Italian mechanical engineering industry, aiming to assess awareness, adoption levels, perceptions, and impacts on sustainability, while also analyzing the challenges faced by non-adopters. A survey was conducted among 115 Italian companies to evaluate their implementation of Lean practices and its effects on the economic, environmental, and social pillars of sustainability. Descriptive statistical analysis was employed to synthesize the findings.
Results reveal that only 16.5% of the surveyed companies have adopted Lean practices, reporting significant benefits, including enhanced productivity, operational efficiency, and resource utilization. Lean adopters also highlight improvements in employee satisfaction, health and safety, and waste reduction, demonstrating alignment with sustainability objectives. Conversely, non-adopters face critical barriers such as time constraints, insufficient knowledge, and resistance to change, which are particularly pronounced in micro and small enterprises. Despite these challenges, many non-adopters recognize Lean as a valuable opportunity, underscoring the potential for broader implementation through targeted support.
The study emphasizes the importance of customized interventions, such as training programs and institutional support, to facilitate the adoption of Lean practices and overcome barriers. It also confirms that Lean Manufacturing, when effectively implemented, serves as a strategic enabler for sustainability by fostering operational, environmental, and social improvements.
By offering insights into both adopting and non-adopting companies, this research contributes to the understanding of Lean Manufacturing’s role in advancing sustainability within the mechanical engineering sector, providing actionable recommendations for practitioners and policymakers
