La gestione dell’acqua a Cirene nell’età di Augusto
Water Management in Cyrene in the Age of Augustus · Although the rich archaeological documentation has allowed us to develop a summary picture of the water cycle in Cyrene, the representation of the water supply and disposal system operating during the Augustan age still needs to be revised. The reasons for this uncertainty lie in our limited knowledge of the origin and function of water structures, which, given the long period of activity, have undergone restorations and renovations. Even the epigraphic documents, unfortunately very modest in terms of subject matter and limited from a topographical point of view, still need to respond to the questions raised by the archaeological data fully. The Perugia conference allowed the resuming and deepening of the study on water management in Cyrene, a topic that continues to offer new food for thought. The intervention of the Augustan age aimed at water management is documented in the Sanctuary of Apollo : it concerns restoration works at the source area and the dedication of an aqueduct called aqua Augusta

The Census of Rural Architecture in Italy: a Replicable Model for the Cataloguing
The Italian landscape is enriched by rural architecture, which is a fundamental element and a valuablecultural asset. Despite increasing interest, research in this field struggles to establish itself as anautonomous discipline. This paper proposes a methodological model that can be replicated for thecensus and cataloging of rural architecture, emphasizing its historical, cultural, and environmentalsignificance. The aim is to provide a systematic framework for analyzing and preserving these structuresby integrating historical, typological, and territorial data into a coherent system of knowledge andvalorization. Since the early 20th century, the study of architecture has expanded to include vernacularbuildings alongside monumental ones. Scholars such as Giuseppe Pagano, Bernard Rudofsky, andAmos Rapoport emphasized the significance of spontaneous rural constructions in shaping sustainableand context-driven architectural practices. Today, rural architecture is increasingly recognized for itsrole in landscape conservation and sustainable development. The Italian Ministry of Culture and PNRRhave promoted the National Rural Architecture Census, which aims to identify and document varioustypes of rural buildings across Italy. The goal is to compile around 50,000 cataloging forms, dividedinto eight regional lots, with the help of the Central Institute for Cataloging and Documentation(ICCD). The AR (Rural Architecture) form provides a systematic classification of buildings constructedup to 1940, gathering essential data on architectural typology, construction techniques, materials, andconservation status. By completing this census, we can safeguard rural architecture and create a modelfor cataloging vernacular heritage that can be replicated. The project's aim is to combine historicalresearch with innovative tools to foster interdisciplinary approaches that support the conservation andsustainable reuse of rural structures, guaranteeing their transmission to future generations

L’articolo Del gioco e del tempo libero nel Giorno della Memoria analizza il ruolo del gioco e delle attività ricreative come strumenti di sopravvivenza, protezione e resistenza psicologica nei lager nazisti, prendendo spunto dal film La vita è bella di Roberto Benigni e dagli scritti di Primo Levi. Nel film, il protagonista Guido trasforma la brutalità del campo di concentramento in un gioco per proteggere il figlio Giosuè, preservandone l’innocenza e affermando l’umanità di fronte alla barbarie. Il gioco e il tempo libero diventano strumenti salvifici, capaci di mantenere la dignità, rafforzare i legami familiari e creare momenti di speranza e leggerezza.
L’analisi si estende alla realtà storica dei lager, dove le attività ludiche e ricreative, sebbene rare e spesso clandestine, fornivano un rifugio mentale e un mezzo di resistenza morale. Cantare, raccontare storie, praticare esercizi intellettuali o culturali, e persino scherzare, permetteva ai prigionieri di conservare frammenti di umanità e identità personale. Primo Levi evidenzia come tali momenti di “non lavoro” fossero essenziali per la sopravvivenza psicologica e per contrastare la disumanizzazione imposta dal regime. Il gioco assume anche un valore simbolico, rappresentando un’alternativa alla logica di annientamento e un modo per ritrovare comunità, solidarietà e senso di sé.
L’articolo sottolinea come il tempo libero e il gioco, pur in contesti estremamente ostili, possano costituire atti di ribellione morale e strategie di resilienza, rivelando l’importanza della dimensione ludica nella costruzione e nel mantenimento dell’umanità, della dignità e della speranza anche nelle circostanze più tragiche
Surface Formation Pathway of Nitrogen- and Sulfur-Containing Organic Compounds on Ammonium Sulfate
: The formation of nitrogen- and sulfur-containing organic compounds (N-Org and S-Org) is important for atmospheric secondary organic aerosol (SOA) production, thereby influencing air quality and global climate. However, the mechanisms underlying N-Org and S-Org formation on aerosol particle surfaces are poorly understood due to the limited availability of surface-sensitive analytical techniques. This study investigates the surface interactions of glyoxal (GL), a known SOA precursor, with ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4, under varying relative humidity (RH) conditions, using ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS), near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. N-Org species, such as imines, a key intermediate in brown carbon (BrC) formation, are identified on the (NH4)2SO4 surface at low RH (≤13.3%). The formed S-Org species cannot be specified due to the difficulties in distinguishing S-Org from inorganic sulfate in the XPS spectra. Elemental ratios on (NH4)2SO4 surface across the entire probing depth show increased S/O and N/O ratios upon GL exposure, indicating the formation of N-Org and S-Org species. NEXAFS measurements further confirm the surface changes of (NH4)2SO4 associated with the adsorption of GL and water. These findings provide compelling evidence of surface-driven N-Org and S-Org formation pathways, demonstrating that heterogeneous reactions on (NH4)2SO4 particle surfaces could be an active source of atmospheric BrC and SOA
Flow cytometry-based analysis of Water Buffalo colostrum and milk EVs: phenotypes, uptake and immunomodulatory effects on macrophages
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have garnered attention for their ability to transport bioactive molecules and mediate intercellular communication (1). However, their qualitative and quantitative analysis in colostrum (colo) and milk is challenged by the presence of fat globules and casein micelles, which contribute to the complexity and heterogeneity of these biological fluids (2). This study aims to evaluate phenotypes and subcellular effects of colo and milk EVs from Water Buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis), on both no ultracentrifuged whey samples and EV pellets obtained through ultracentrifugation, by conventional Flow Cytometry (FC). Indeed, subcellular immunomodulation effects in water buffalo macrophages, were investigated. No ultracentrifuged whey samples were analyzed post-collection, adhering to MISEV2023 guidelines. EDTA treatment were employed to reduce the presence of casein micelles, which are a significant obstacle in EV isolation. Phenotypic EVs characterization is based on stain with anti-CD9, and -CD63 mAbs. Ultracentrifuged EVs from colo, 15- and 60-day milk (dm) were counted by NTA, labelled with PkH67 and then added to BoMac cells for uptake studies at 4 and 24 hours. Indeed, Water Buffaloes PBMCs were employed to evaluate phagocytosis modulation. Preliminary experiments highlight that both colo and milk samples contain EVs with diameters ranging from ~70 nm to ~350 nm (FACSCanto acquisition) (Fig. 1A) and with diameters ranging from ~85 nm to ~300 nm (Cytoflex acquisition) (Fig. 1B). Colo samples are enriched in Small EVs, measuring <200 nm. Large EVs (200–350 nm) appear more abundant in 15 dm. Furthermore, colo samples exhibit a higher EVs content, with a greater proportion of CD63+ and CD9+ vesicles than those from 15 dm and 60 dm. Uptake experiments revealed increased internalisation of colo EVs at both 4 and 24 hours in BoMac cells (Fig. 2A), promoting cell re-adhesion (Fig. 2B) and demonstrating a major persistence of EVs (Fig. 2C). An increase in the phagocytic activity was observed in ex vivo buffalo macrophages after pre-treatment with 60-dm EVs, assessed by pHrodo Green Zymosan uptake (Fig. 3A-3B). Furthermore, CD14 surface density was higher in macrophages treated with either colo or 60-dm Evs (Fig. 3C-3D). These results confirm that Conventional FC is suitable for rapid and affordable EV detection, as well as determining their size and phenotype in colo and milk samples. Tetraspanins can be employed to highlight sample heterogeneity. Finally, our preliminary data reveal 60 dm EVs as the most effective in boosting phagocytosis
La politica del feed. Serialità, affetti ed ecologie discorsive nella società piattaformizzata
This article explores the serial nature of digital political communication, arguing that contemporary
politics increasingly unfolds as a sequence of episodic, affectively charged and algorithmically
distributed content. Moving beyond the aesthetics of seriality, the article identifies four interwoven
dimensions — algorithmic, affective, memetic, and infrastructural seriality — through which the
logic of the feed organizes visibility, attention, and engagement within platformized public spheres.
Drawing on the concept of feed temporality, the paper shows how the rhythm of communication is
governed not by linear deliberation but by the kairologic logic of algorithmic media: the right
content at the right time to maximize affective resonance. Political participation becomes bingeable,
incivility is normalized as a performative style, and memes function as vernacular technologies that
encode emotional idioms such as resentment. Against this backdrop, the article outlines the
conditions for discursive ecologies capable of interrupting toxic serialities and fostering alternative
narrative infrastructures based on care, reflexivity, and symbolic cohabitation. The aim is to
reconceptualize visibility not merely as exposure, but as a shared responsibility in the design of

Does affective touch buffer emotional distress? Insights from subjective and physiological indices
Affective touch, mediated by the activation of C-tactile afferents, has the potential to modulate affective states and physiological
responses in situations of emotional distress across the lifespan. The present study aims to disentangle psychophysiological mecha-
nisms supporting autonomic and emotional self-regulation, focusing on the possible buffering role of affective touch. Childless adult
participants (N = 92) were presented with videos of an infant babbling (positive scene) and an infant crying (emotionally negative scene),
followed by a tactile stimulation that was either affective (brushing) or non-affective (tapping). We collected subjective measures of
affective state (valence and arousal) and physiological measures: heart rate (HR), HR variability (root mean square of successive differ-
ences [RMSSD] index), and stress index (SI). Participants reported a decrease in pleasantness and an increase in arousal during the
crying video. Moreover, participants receiving affective touch showed an overall greater increase in pleasantness. At the physiological
level, tactile stimulations elicited HR deceleration, reduction of SI, and return to baseline levels of RMSSD after emotional activation.
These responses were more prominent in the affective touch group, suggesting that affective touch is effective in decreasing sympa-
thetic activity and increasing vagal dominance. Our results indicate that affective touch may play a central role in autonomic and
affective regulation, possibly buffering emotional distress
