    Gradient regularity for (s,p)(s,p)-harmonic functions

    We study the local regularity properties of (s, p)-harmonic functions, i.e. local weak solutions to the fractional p-Laplace equation of order s ∈ (0, 1) in the case p ∈ (1, 2]. It is shown that (s, p)-harmonic functions are weakly differentiable and that the weak gradient is locally integrable to any power q ≥ 1. As a result, (s, p)-harmonic functions are Hölder continuous to arbitrary Hölder exponent in (0, 1). In addition, the weak gradient of (s, p)-harmonic functions has certain fractional differentiability. All estimates are stable when s reaches 1, and the known regularity properties of p-harmonic functions are formally recovered, in particular the local W2,2-estimate

    Blockchain Energy Consumption: Unveiling the Impact of Network Topologies

    Blockchain is one of the most promising emerging technologies, but its large-scale deployment raises sustainability issues, specifically in terms of energy consumption. In addition to consensus algorithms, energy efficiency is influenced by several other parameters, including network topology. We present a systematic analysis of the impact of five distinct network topologies (fat-tree, full mesh, hypercube, scale-free, and torus) on the energy consumption of five blockchain platforms (Algorand, Diem, Ethereum Clique, Quorum IBFT, and Solana) under three different workloads (PayPal and VISA transaction processing and GAFAM smart contract execution). Our results reveal that fat-tree and full mesh are the most energy-efficient network topologies, in particular under heavy workloads. Moreover, they show that Algorand and Diem exhibit the lowest energy consumption per transaction, while Ethereum Clique features the highest energy consumption – regardless of the used topology – and Quorum IBFT and Solana lead to higher energy costs under intensive workloads as the network size increases

    Cross-Cultural Perspectives On Generative Ai-Driven Brand Activist Messages: A Comparative Thematic Analysis Of The United States, Sweden, And Italy

    In an era where consumers increasingly demand authenticity from brands, the emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in activist communication poses new challenges. This study explores cross-cultural perceptions of GAI-generated brand activist messages through a qualitative thematic analysis involving 38 participants from Italy, Sweden, and the United States. It examines how different national contexts shape expectations of authenticity, emotional resonance, transparency, and responsibility in AI-generated communication. Findings reveal five key themes: authenticity and consistency, the role of human agency, transparency and accountability, limited empathy, and context-specific appropriateness. While AI was broadly accepted as a supportive tool, participants emphasized that credible activism still requires human presence: a deliberate, value-driven commitment rooted in authentic beliefs, along with the ability to feel, express, and respond to complex emotions, which AI tools are evidently unable to replicate. GAI was seen as more appropriate for environmental causes, perceived as data-driven, than for social justice issues demanding personal understanding and a human voice. Cultural differences shaped these views: Italians focused on sincerity and alignment with brand values, Swedes adopted a practical approach, assessing functional relevance and transparency, and US respondents evaluated whether activism matched the brand’s business and offerings. Despite these differences, shared skepticism emerged toward fully AI-authored activism lacking human oversight and emotional credibility. This study contributes to branding and communication research by highlighting the sociocultural filters through which GAIgenerated activism is interpreted. It calls for hybrid, culturally sensitive strategies that preserve human authenticity while leveraging technological innovation in cause-related messaging

    Big Tech, capitale monopolistico e guerra: alle radici del complesso militare-digitale

    Questo lavoro ha l’obiettivo di analizzare l’emergere del “complesso militare-digitale”, ossia il rapporto sempre più stretto tra gli apparati militari e di intelligence e le grandi piattaforme digitali – Meta (Facebook), Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet (Google) e Apple, le cosiddette ‘Big Tech’. Sulla scorta delle teorie del capitale monopolistico e degli studi sull’imperialismo, si descrivono i canali che alimentano la mutua dipendenza tra Big Tech e settore militare rintracciandone le radici nel controllo che esse esercitano su conoscenze, infrastrutture e tecnologie di tipo ‘duale’ essenziali sia nella sfera civile sia in quella militare. Nel far questo, vengono mostrati i principali elementi di continuità e discontinuità rispetto al “complesso militare-industriale” consolidatosi nella seconda metà del XX secolo. Infine, focalizzandosi sugli Stati Uniti, il presente lavoro documenta la crescente rilevanza delle Big Tech come appaltatori del Dipartimento della Difesa, nonché il meccanismo delle “porte girevoli” ed il coinvolgimento diretto delle piattaforme nei confitti contemporanei. Il lavoro si conclude con una riflessione in merito alla necessità di sottrarre le tecnologie e le infrastrutture per l’innovazione al controllo privato delle Big Tech, al fine di riorientarne lo sviluppo e l’utilizzo al di fuori della valorizzazione capitalistica e della progressiva militarizzazione del digitale

    e-REFORMER for sustainable hydrogen production: enhancing efficiency in the steam methane reforming process

    Electrifying heat supply in chemical processes offers a strategic pathway to reduce CO2 emissions associated with fossil fuel combustion. This study investigates the retrofit of an existing terrace-wall Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) in an ammonia plant by replacing fuel-fired burners with electric resistance heaters in the radiant section. The proposed e-REFORMER concept is applied to a real-world case producing hydrogen-rich syngas at 29,000 Nm3/h, with simulation and energy analysis performed using Aspen HYSYS®. The results show that electric heating reduces total thermal input by 3.78 %, lowers direct flue gas CO2 emissions by 91.56 %, and improves furnace thermal efficiency from 85.6 % to 88.9 % (+3.3 %). The existing furnace design and convection heat recovery system are largely preserved, maintaining process integration and plant operability. While the case study reflects a medium-scale plant, the methodology applies to larger facilities and supports integration with decarbonised power grids and Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) technologies. This work advances current literature by addressing full-system integration of electrification within hydrogen and ammonia production chains, offering a viable pathway to improve energy efficiency and reduce industrial emissions

    The Publishing History of The Water-Babies: A Description of the Macmillan Editions (1863–1928)

    This essay aims to clarify the numerous British editions and reprints of Charles Kingsley’s The Water-Babies, published by Macmillan between 1863 and 1928. Identifying the precise edition or reprint of a Macmillan volume is often challenging, especially since the uniform dark blue or maroon covers could contain significantly different contents. Moreover, the printing history listed on Macmillan’s imprint pages is frequently misleading or inaccurate. This essay provides a detailed description of Kingsley’s book as a physical object and traces how its text evolved through new editions, issues, and reprints over time. It also examines how these changes were tied to marketing strategies such as pricing and advertising, and it reveals how decisions regarding new editions reflected the publisher’s vision of a changing readership. An appendix lists the major textual variants in the second edition

    Il progetto PRIN 2017 AtLiTeG, “Atlante della lingua e dei testi della cultura gastronomica dal Medioevo all’Unità”, mira a ricostruire un quadro esaustivo della letteratura gastronomica dalle origini all’Unità. A tal fine, è stata realizzata una banca dati digitale che comprende un corpus interregionale di testi inediti o privi di edizioni filologicamente curate; un Vocabolario Storico della Lingua Italiana della Gastronomia (VoSLIG), strumento lessicografico digitale ideato per documentare la storia dei gastronimi più significativi dell’italiano preunitario; e, infine, un Atlante geotestuale (webGIS), concepito per rappresentare sulla carta i lemmi studiati nel VoSLIG, nel loro sviluppo diacronico e nella loro distribuzione territoriale. Attraverso alcuni esempi scelti, il contributo intende illustrare i principali risultati della ricerca, evidenziando l’ottica fortemente multidisciplinare che ne ha guidato la realizzazione
