    No full text
The paper analyzes the relationship between the image of the city, space, and power in archaic Rome, with particular attention to the processes involved in the legal definition of urban space. Through an examination of ancient sources and augural tradition, it considers how the determination of space through word and ritual gesture (effatio) precedes the material construction of the city (sulcus primigenius and walls), contributing to the configuration of the Urbs as a political entity (civitas). The role of urban boundaries as mechanisms for regulating the exercise of power is also taken into account. Finally, the analysis extends to the transitional period between regnum and res publica, proposing a reinterpretation of the foundational dynamics in which space acts as a determining element in the process of institutionalizing power

    No full text

Frammentazione, Polarizzazione o Balancing? Una Geografia Critica dell’Accordo sul Litio tra Ue e Serbia

    No full text

Saint Sophia and the Adjoining Monuments of Byzantine Constantinople through the Lens of Renaissance Scholars and Travellers

    No full text
From the descriptions delivered by the European travelers who, for diplomatic missions, commercial interests, and religious reasons, sojourned in Constantinople during the 15th and 16th centuries, a peculiar attention to the Hagia Sophia and its fate in Ottoman times clearly emerges. The recurrence of the same topoi in these literary texts – such as the extolling of the dome hugeness and of the marble decoration – allow us to see that the tour of the Hagia Sophia was planned so as to achieve the maximum emotional impact on visitors; together with the cathedral church then reduced to a mosque, the surrounding monuments of Byzantine age, such as the Column of Justinian at the Augusteion and the Christian churches reused as the sultan’s menageries, became part of the same set of imperial memories, that were depicted by Renaissance draughtsmen and artists who left us a precious image of these relics of the Byzantine past of the city

ENG THE ATLITEG PROJECT (ATLAS OF THE LANGUAGE AND TEXTS OF ITALIAN GASTRONOMIC CULTURE FROM THE MIDDLE AGES TO THE UNIFICATION): MULTIDISCIPLINARITY AND GEOTECHNOLOGY ‒ The PRIN 2017 AtLiTeG “Atlante della lingua e dei testi della cultura gastronomica dal Medioevo all’Unità” was conceived with a distinctly multidisciplinary intent. It integrates philology, lexicography, historical and human geography, and digital humanities to offer new insights on the origin and evolution of Italian food language. This paper aims to illustrate two of its main outcomes: a digital database containing an interregional corpus of both edited and previously unpublished texts, and the “Vocabolario storico della lingua italiana della gastronomia” (VoSLIG). These two resources engage with a third platform: a geo-textual atlas that represents the distribution of the considered lemmas throughout Italy

Noninterference Analysis of Stochastically Timed Reversible Systems

    No full text
Noninterference theory aims at ensuring the absence of covert channels among different security levels. As far as the verification of information-flow properties via equivalence checking is concerned, in nondeterministic and probabilistic settings weak bisimilarity has turned out to be adequate only for standard systems, while branching bisimilarity has proven to be appropriate for reversible systems too. In this paper we investigate noninterference for stochastically timed systems represented in the interactive Markov chain model of Hermanns. After recasting a selection of noninterference properties via Markovian variants of weak and branching bisimilarities, we study their preservation and compositionality aspects, build their taxonomy, and compare it with the nondeterministic and probabilistic taxonomies. We show the adequacy of our proposal through some examples about a database management system

Multicenter prospective study of programmed death 1 (PD-1) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in patients with metastatic lung adenocarcinoma (MLA) treated with pembrolizumab (P)

Background P is a humanized monoclonal antibody against PD-1 that has antitumor activity in MLA patients (pts), with increased activity in tumors that express programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1). Functional PD-1 SNPs may impair P activity leading to unfavorable clinical outcomes. We investigated whether five functional PD-1 SNPs (rs11568821 C>T, rs10204525 C>T, rs7421861 A>G, rs2227981 A>G, rs41386349 A>G) may impact on the progression-free survival (PFS) of MLA pts treated with P. Methods Consecutive pts with MLA undergoing P therapy were prospectively enrolled at five participating institutions in Central Italy. A target accrual of 120 pts was planned. Assuming a risk allele frequency > 10%, an association with PFS hazard ratio (HR) > 2.5 could be detected after 80 events. Univariate analyses and multivariate models were adopted for association analysis between SNPs and PFS (primary end-point). An exploratory analysis was conducted to examine the association between inferred haplotypes and early progression <6 months. Results One hundred twenty non-oncogene-addicted MLA pts were enrolled. Fifty-seven pts were treated with P (PD-L1 expression >50%) and 63 pts with P plus chemotherapy (PD-L1 expression <50%). There were 83 males and 37 females, with an overall median age of 68. KRAS mutations occurred in 34 pts (28%). Median PFS in carriers of the rs7421861 A/A, A/G and G/G genotypes was 26.8 months, 19.5 months and 6,3 months, respectively (univariate p= 0.001). Median PFS in carriers of the rs2227981 A/A, A/G, and G/G genotypes was 34 months, 20 months, and 19,5 months, respectively (univariate p=0.04). The rs7421861-rs2227981 G-G haplotype was significantly associated with early progression with a 2.51 hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI 1.16-5.43; p=0.01). The detrimental effect of the homozygous rs7421861 G/G genotype on PFS was retained in the multivariate model with a 2.71 HR and 1.14-6.45 95%CI; p=0.02. Conclusions The rs7421861 SNPs in the minor homogenous genotype showed an association with unfavorable PFS in MLA pts treated with P. This finding warrants further investigation as an unfavorable host-related feature in pts treated with anti-PD-1

What human intelligence in the age of Artificial Intelligence?: Educational aims and curricular perspectives

    No full text
The advanced and human-like capabilities demonstrated by Artificial In-telligence (AI) prompt a reflection on the relationship between human intellect and AI, as well as on the potential risk of human substitution by machines. In this context, it becomes urgent to consider which forms of human intelligence should be cultivated to address the challenges posed by AI and to collaborate with it in ways that promote both individual and collective well-being. In this regard, the promotion of critical thinking and epistemic cognition and the development of ethical-social mental habits are identified as priorities
