A Comparison Index for Costs of Interval Linear Programming Models
Interval Linear Programming (ILP) presents several compelling challenges when applied
to real-world problems that cannot be easily captured by traditional robust uncertainty
models. In this paper, we propose a novel solution method that employs a comparison
index for interval ordering based on the generalized Hukuhara difference. This approach
proves to be highly effective in comparing solutions within ILP frameworks. Additionally,
we discuss the robustness of the proposed methodology and its implications for decisionmaking under uncertaint
Synthesis and application of Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADESs) for Upcycling Horticulture Residues
Upcycling horticulture residues offers a sustainable solution to reduce environmental impact, maximize resource utilization, mitigate climate change, and contribute to
the circular economy. We synthesized and characterized 14 natural deep eutectic solvents
(NADESs) and applied them to upcycle horticulture residues, offering an innovative valorization approach. Using an initial many-factors-at-a-time (MFAT) screening followed by
a rotatable central composite response surface methodology (RCCRSM) for optimization,
quadratic models fitted the response data for all the synthesized NADESs given: TPC
(R2 = 0.984, p < 0.0001), TFC (R2 = 0.9999, p < 0.0001), AA-CUPRAC (R2 = 0.918, p < 0.0001),
FRAP (R2 = 1.000, p < 0001), and DPPH (R2 = 0.9992, p < 0.0001). An ultrasound temperature
of 45 ◦C, extraction time of 5 min, solvent volume of 25 mL, and solvent concentration
of 90% (v/v) were considered the optimal conditions for achieving maximum desirability
(0.9936) for TPC yield. For TFC and CUPRAC, the optimal conditions were 30 ◦C, 5 min,
25 mL, and 90% (v/v), with maximum desirability values of 0.9003 and 1.00, respectively.
The maximum desirability for FRAP (0.9605) was achieved under conditions of 45 ◦C,
25 min, 25 mL, and 50%, while DPPH had a maximum desirability of 0.9313, with 50 ◦C,
15 min, 15 mL, and 70% (v/v) as the optimized conditions
Literature and the Mindbrain: Neurohermeneutics and the Centrality of Emotions in Reading and Literary Studies
Recent research confirms that emotions are central to the experience of reading and
understanding texts. Philosophical hermeneutics, particularly Gadamer’s concept of Bildung,
shows how emotional and historical pre-understandings shape interpretation as a transformative encounter. This perspective resonates with the most recent cognitive and educational
studies, which highlight how reading fosters both critical and emotional development. A dialogic
pedagogy grounded in Bildung forms readers who are historically aware, emotionally engaged,
and critically reflective. This integrated perspective moves toward a neurohermeneutic model of
literary literacy, in which embodiment, simulation, and emotional resonance redefine the act of
understanding. Reflecting on neuroscience and neuroaesthetics, and in dialogue with Mind the
Text! by Gambino and Pulvirenti, the essay integrates the concept of the Default Mode Network
and elaborates a neurohermeneutic framework that weaves together the contributions of Iser
and Fludernik’s narratology. Literature thus emerges as a biocultural tool: embodied simulation,
ontological metaphors, and enculturation are closely linked to narratological questions. This approach highlights how literary texts promote empathy, ethical reflection, and cognitive flexibility,
thereby reinforcing the formative urgency of literary education
Cross-cultural data on romantic love and mate preferences from 117,293 participants across 175 countries
Psychological studies on close relationships have often overlooked cultural diversity, dynamic processes, and potentially universal principles that shape intimate partnerships. To address the limited generalizability of previous research and advance our understanding of romantic love experiences, mate preferences, and physical attractiveness, we conducted a large-scale cross-cultural survey study on these topics. A total of 404 researchers collected data in 45 languages from April to August 2021, involving 117,293 participants from 175 countries. Aside from standard demographic questions, the survey included valuable information on variables relevant to romantic relationships: intimate, passionate, and committed love within romantic relationships, physical-attractiveness enhancing behaviors, gender equality endorsement, collectivistic attitudes, personal history of pathogenic diseases, relationship quality, jealousy, personal involvement in sexual and/or emotional infidelity, relational mobility, mate preferences, and acceptance of sugar relationships. The resulting dataset provides a rich resource for investigating patterns within, and associations across, a broad range of variables relevant to romantic relationships, with extensive opportunities to analyze individual experiences worldwide
Scales as challenging objects. From the theory of proportions to the quantitative interpretation in mechanics
In the connotation given by Jürgen Renn to historical epistemology, a change of paradigm does not consist solely in the breaking and replacement of an old paradigm with a new one, but in the production of new knowledge from accumulated knowledge, thereby eliciting cognitive potential. According to Renn, to understand the evolutionary history of scientific knowledge, we can study the so-called “challenging objects”. Challenging objects are phenomena or artefacts, such as scales and projectiles, concerning which the reflection on the cognitive content goes beyond the practical application, presenting a theoretical challenge. Following this perspective, the science of proportions, typical of Renaissance science, played a fundamental role in the evolution of knowledge, as it paved the way for quantitative physics. This paper aims to discuss the epistemological scope of the scale as a “challenging object” and to examine the concept of weight in the context of the theory of proportions applied to the case of the scale
