La scuola nel XXI secolo. Promuovere il pensiero critico nella società dell’IA

    No full text
Today’s society is characterised by rapid and profound transformations, most no-tably the digital revolution, within which the current widespread dissemination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is situated. These developments entail significant anthro-pological shifts, insofar as they radically reshape various dimensions of individual and social life. From this perspective, pedagogy and, in particular, the school are cal-led upon to reconsider their role and significance in light of the far-reaching changes affecting personal lifestyles, modes of relationship, individual decision-making, as well as forms of collective, professional, and civic engagement. In this context, the school is urged to respond to the emerging challenges of the pre-sent age, lest it risk social irrelevance. Nonetheless, it must do so while remaining faithful to its pedagogical mission, resisting uncritical adherence to contemporary ideologies that risk relegating it to a subordinate position. Within this framework, the present contribution identified the paradigm of human development in a demo-cratic direction as a guiding context for conceptualising education in relation to di-gital technologies and Artificial Intelligence. From this point of view, education in critical thinking is interpreted as a fundamental pedagogical objective for schooling that aims to educate individuals to live meaningfully in the present era

The Communication Strategy of SMEs: The Emergence of a Heterogeneous Scenario

    No full text
This study examines the marketing communication strategies employed by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a particular emphasis on their role in achieving communication effectiveness and marketing objectives. Whilst large corporations implement well-structured communication strategies, SMEs often face challenges due to limited resources, despite the growing importance of communication in strengthening brand awareness and customer loyalty. A systematic literature review (SLR) approach was adopted to collect and analyse data, which was divided into three phases: review planning, review execution, and findings reporting. The study identified five major content areas, highlighting the emergence of a heterogeneous landscape in SMEs communication management, through a review of over 80 academic publications from Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). The findings indicate an increasing awareness among SMEs of the strategic value of marketing communication. Furthermore, the study emphasizes how digital transformation has created new opportunities for SMEs to develop targeted communication strategies, engage consumers more effectively, utilise a diverse range of digital tools, and assess the impact of their communication efforts. The SLR process has also revealed key weaknesses in SME communication strategies, research gaps, and future research directions. The insights derived from this study are set to make significant contributions to the marketing communication literature while concurrently offering practical guidance for entrepreneurs, marketing managers and consultants. In addition, policymakers, academic institutions, and other stakeholders can leverage these findings to enhance communication strategies in an increasingly digital and competitive business environment. It is recommended that further qualitative research be conducted to facilitate a more profound comprehension of the evolution of communication management

Negotiations on Chapter 22 of the EU Acquis: State of the Art in Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia

    No full text
This introductory chapter provides an overview of the European Union (EU) enlargement process to the Western Balkans (WB), with a fo- cus on Chapter 22 of the Acquis (Regional policy). Firstly, it describes the process of adhesion of a new member and briefly examines the EU financial assistance to the WB countries. Subsequently, it draws attention to the assessment made by the European Commission of the progress of four candidate countries (Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia) on Chapter 22 of the negotiations. According to the latest EU Enlargement package, the four countries are all “moderately prepared” on this Chapter, facing similar strengths and common challenges. Institutional and legislative frameworks are indeed aligned to EU standards, while understaffing and lack of administrative capacities hinder the advancements of the negotiations in this policy area

‘Voi e il cinema’. Visual culture, gender and cinema consumption in Fascist Italy (1938–43)

    No full text
This article analyses the agony column ‘Voi e il cinema’, launched in November 1938 in Cine illustrato, one of the most popular film magazines of the time. ‘Voi e il cinema’ invited readers to share their acting aspirations, but also to send in photographs of themselves that might contain the defining feature of a diva: photogenicity. The magazine was flooded with images of ‘ordinary young Italian women’ that created an intermediate visual grammar. Focusing on both the photographs and the editors’ responses, the article reveals how shared consumption practices redefined the relationship between public and private space. It also highlights the distance of the readers’ self-representations from fascist models and sheds light on the role of American diva culture in creating the ‘modern’ subject. Although they were not politically opposed to fascist models, the photographs reveal a strong desire for social change and the perception of such change, particularly in relation to traditional female roles

Sustainable recovery of rare earth elements from aqueous media using fruit pomaces: adsorption performance, thermodynamics, and environmental assessment

    No full text
The valorization of waste biomasses for recovering Critical Raw Materials (CRMs), particularly Rare Earth Elements (REEs), is a promising approach to enhance sustainability and resource efficiency. This study investigates the adsorption performance of bergamot, grape, and olive pomaces toward Nd3+ and Dy3+ ions under varying pH conditions, both in the absence of an ionic medium and in 0.10 mol/dm3 NaNO3(aq), following different biomass pretreatment protocols. Comparative tests with La3+ enabled evaluation of light (Nd3+, La3+) vs. heavy (Dy3+) lanthanide ion behavior. Biomass characterization was performed using Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR FT-IR) spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy-Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) analysis to assess changes in surface chemistry and morphology after adsorption. Kinetic and isotherm analyses showed pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir behavior, respectively. The highest capacity was observed for water-pretreated bergamot pomace at 30 °C, pH 5.0, without ionic medium, and measured adsorption efficiency followed the trend: Dy3+ (0.45 mmol/g) > Nd3+ (0.38 mmol/g) > La3+ (0.35 mmol/g). The materials exhibited good reusability across adsorption/desorption cycles, supporting their potential as sustainable biosorbents. For the first time, direct isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was used to determine adsorption thermodynamics. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-Economic Assessment (TEA) further evaluated the environmental and economic feasibility of bergamot pomace under different processing scenarios
