    EcDiff-LLIE: Event-conditional diffusion model for structure-preserving low-light image enhancement

    Low-light image enhancement (LLIE) aims to restore the visual quality of poorly illuminated images by recovering fine details and textures while suppressing noise and artifacts. Recently, diffusion models have shown superior generative capabilities for LLIE. However, existing diffusion-based methods condition the denoising process only on low-light images or features derived from them (e.g., structural or illumination maps). Since the low-light images are severely degraded, this limits the denoising model’s ability to restore fine structure and reduce artifacts. In this work, we show that the event data captured simultaneously with the low-light images provides complementary high-dynamic-range and high-temporal-resolution structural information that can overcome this limitation. Therefore, we propose EcDiff-LLIE, a novel event-conditional diffusion framework for LLIE. At its core, we introduce a multimodality denoising network that conditions on both low-light images and concurrent event streams. To effectively fuse the two modalities, we design a cross-modality attention block that bridge their domain differences, while also enabling long-range dependency modeling for improved structural preservation. Experiments on the synthetic SDSD and real-world SDE datasets show significant improvements in quantitative evaluation metrics.     Being crime: Youth violence and criminal identities in Bahia, Brazil

    In Brazil, a growing number of young citizens from the socioeconomic periphery embark on a career in crime, earning their living by armed robbery or selling drugs. Through the life stories and narratives of inmates of a juvenile prison in the state of Bahia, the article anatomizes what makes these young men take up and stick to a life in conflict with the law, despite the limited profits and substantial hardships involved. I argue that the experience of violence, both suffered and perpetrated, is central to the forging of the youths’ criminal identities, and their persistent failure to change their life trajectories.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Perceived social support buffers the consequences of internalized negativity among individuals in consensual non-monogamous relationships

    Departures from monogamy are socially discouraged and met with negative judgments, and being a target of stigmatization has consequences for the way individuals in consensual non-monogamous (CNM) relationships connect to others, including their partner(s). However, social support seems to be an important factor associated with increases in wellbeing and relationship quality. Aligned with this reasoning, results of a cross-sectional study showed that participants in CNM relationships who endorsed more internalized negativity reported less commitment to partner one (P1), less disclosure of their relationship agreement to others, as well as less acceptance and more secrecy toward P1 and partner two (P2). Results further showed that perceiving more social support was associated with more commitment to P1, less disclosure to people from the extended social circle, and more acceptance of the relationship with P1 and P2 among participants with higher internalized negativity. Perceiving more social support was also associated with more disclosure to people from the close social circle, as well as more acceptance and less secrecy toward the relationship with P1 and P2 among participants with lower internalized negativity. These results demonstrate that relationships embedded in social contexts of support can be a protective factor, even for individuals who report higher internalized negativity. Hence, for individuals in CNM relationships, fostering a positive and supportive social network seems to increase positive personal and relationship outcomes.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    A review on intrapreneurship: Individual level with an HRD focus

    This systematic review on intrapreneurship - individual level, HRD focus - addresses three research questions: What is the definition of intrapreneurship? What are its antecedents and outcomes? And how can it be integrated into HRD practices? Following the PRISMA protocol, twenty-six articles were included (peer review, English written, Q1 or Q2). Using the analysis matrix method, intrapreneurship was defined as an employee-initiated behavior comprising six core dimensions: communication and information, innovativeness, networking and influence, new ventures and opportunities, personal initiative, and risk-taking. Antecedents emerged from personal capabilities, perceptions, personality, self-attitudes and relational contexts. Outcomes included increased knowledge, performance, and participation in innovative projects. Theoretically, positions intrapreneurship as a developmental mechanism central to HRD, offering a novel and original conceptual framework supported by McLagan’s (1989) seven HRD dimensions.     Conceptualizing social dynamic capabilities: Contextual embeddedness in hospitality industry

    This study introduces the concept of Social Dynamic Capabilities to address the growing need for hospitality organizations to align business strategies with social sustainability goals. Employing a grounded theory approach, we develop propositions and a conceptual framework delineating social dynamic capabilities from the broader concept of dynamic capabilities. Our research was conducted in two phases: an exploratory phase to identify core skills and practices for social dynamic capabilities and a confirmatory phase to refine the framework. The findings underscore the importance of stakeholder collaboration and community involvement in the operationalization of social dynamic capabilities, leading to the concept of Collaborative Social Transformation. Our study advances the dynamic capabilities framework by extending it into the social domain and providing a practical framework for implementation.     Uneasy tensions in research on local responses to large-scale solar plants: A critical and integrative review

    Driven by the construction of new large solar power plants, recent years have seen a boom in solar PV energy, with global capacity tripling between 2018 and 2023. By the end of this decade, solar is set to become the largest renewable energy source, surpassing both wind and hydropower. However, the growing number and scale of solar projects are raising concerns about their socio-ecological impacts and energy justice implications. Conflicts at deployment sites are becoming more frequent, challenging long-held assumptions about solar energy’s public acceptability. While research on social acceptance and energy justice has mainly focused on other technologies, there is now a growing body of social science work examining large-scale solar plants. Yet this literature remains fragmented: diverse methodologies, conceptual frameworks, and normative standpoints make it difficult to develop integrated understandings of why injustices and opposition occur, what solutions are being proposed, and how they are pursued. This article addresses these gaps through a critical and integrative review of 255 peer-reviewed studies that empirically examine large-scale solar deployment. We identify five overarching themes of research focused on institutions, perceptions, impacts, conflicts, and solutions. These themes are shaped not only by their research objects but also by distinct disciplinary knowledge and goals. By bridging these perspectives, we propose a critical and relational metatheoretical perspective that highlights new research directions and offers a basis for more holistic understanding and practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Mediation and mediatisation of death and dying: A scoping review of the literature based on a decolonial perspective

    Considering the central role played by the media in communicating information and meaning of the shared world, this book chapter aims to map the scientific production on the mediation and mediatisation of death and dying based on a decolonial perspective to describe the state of this field of media studies. This scoping review of empirical studies indexed in Web of Science and Scopus before May 2023 (n = 33) was guided by the Arksey and O'Malley (2005) recommendations and the PRISMA 2020 reporting guidelines for reviews (Page et al., 2021). The data shows a preponderance of publications on the Global North. The main research topics in the media are death (n = 18; 54.55%) and online mourning practices (n = 15; 45.45%). Most studies make casual and confused use of the concepts of mediation and mediatisation.     Mapping AI learning readiness self-efficacy worldwide: Scale validation and cross-continental patterns

    In today's world, knowing how to use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is becoming an essential skill. While methods for measuring the perceived efficacy of AI use are emerging, brief measures of users' self-evaluated learning and self-efficacy regarding AI use are still lacking. This study aimed to validate the five-item AI Learning Readiness Self-Efficacy (AILRSE) scale and examine cross-national differences between 12 countries on six continents. We used large-scale, adult population samples from Australia, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, and the United States collected in 2024–2025 (N = 20,173), enabling both cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis. Scale validation involved confirmatory factor analysis and measurement invariance testing across countries and over time. The results supported a one-factor structure with high internal consistency and scalar invariance across countries as well as strict invariance in Finnish cross-sectional and longitudinal data. AI positivity emerged as the strongest predictor of AILRSE-5 scores across all models, followed by younger age and more frequent use of text-to-text AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot). Education and gender effects were small and context dependent. The findings indicate that AILRSE-5 is a brief, reliable, and valid tool for assessing self-efficacy in AI learning readiness. Its invariance across diverse national contexts supports its applicability in cross-cultural research, while its longitudinal invariance suggests stability over time. Furthermore, our results provide rare cross-national evidence on the individual factors shaping AI learning readiness self-efficacy.     Hybrid work as a self-determining context: Examining the psychological mechanisms behind job satisfaction

    Purpose Given the increasing prevalence of hybrid work arrangements, it is essential to investigate their relationship with employee job satisfaction. Grounded in self-determination theory, this study aimed to examine the influence of hybrid work on employee job satisfaction, while testing the mediating role of basic psychological needs (autonomy, competence and relatedness) in this relationship. Design/methodology/approach To achieve this research goal, a three-wave design was employed, using an online survey administered to a sample of 481 employees working in a hybrid working model. Findings Hybrid work was positively associated with employee job satisfaction through the fulfillment of the three basic psychological needs. Practical implications For organizations seeking to implement hybrid work arrangements, these results are critical, as they highlight aspects that should be considered in workplace practices to promote employee job satisfaction.
