Aspergillosis in peacocks – Case Report
The work describes two cases of Indian peacocks (Pavo cristatus) originating from extensive breeding, in which pulmonary aspergillosis and aerosacculitis were diagnosed. A clinical examination revealed difficult breathing with an open beak, gradual apathy, decreased appetite, and weight loss in both affected individuals. During the endoscopic examination, a yellow, caseous mass was diagnosed in the area of the margo caudalis of the lung. Pathological autopsy in both cases revealed a granuloma in the area of the left lung parenchyma and aerosacculitis. Fungal hyphae were detected in the granulomas by pathological-histological examination, and Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus parasiticus were diagnosed by mycological culture.</p
Research progress of fully biodegradable and antimicrobial materials applied in personal protective equipment
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, a large number of disposable personal protective equipment (PPE) wastes were generated. It has caused great harm to the ecological environment, and even in the future may endanger human health. Therefore, it is of great significance to research biodegradable materials that can be used in the field of medical protective equipment. This article reviews the application of biodegradable materials in personal protective equipment. First of all, the classification, characteristics, and general application of biodegradable materials are described. Then, the application of biodegradable antibacterial materials, which can improve the degradability, antibacterial, and comfort of medical protective articles, is analyzed. Finally, the significance and challenges are discussed, and some prospects in this field are put forward.</p
Post traumatic facial artery pseudoaneurysm-A case report
Facial artery a branch of external carotid artery rarely develops an aneurysm due to its superficial location and small size that mostly leads to complete dissection rather than laceration of the vessel. Pseudo-aneurysms develop in the superficial temporal arteries in this region. Rupture of this aneurysm can lead to extravasation of blood within the adjacent soft tissues resulting in hemorrhage in some cases. Only a few cases of facial artery aneurysms have been reported in publications. We are therefore discussing here a case of left facial artery pseudoaneurysm secondary to trauma and its radiological imaging findings on CT angiogram. </p
The role of interleukin-17 in spondyloarthropathies and systemic lupus erythematosus: Two clinical cases in real
Spondyloarthropathies are known to affect the interleukin (IL)-17 activation pathway as a basis of their pathology, as is apparent from the literature. Recent studies established the vital role of IL-17 in the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). This article aims to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of IL-17 in the treatment of both spondyloarthropathies and SLE by presenting two cases. The first case concerns a 30-year-old woman who was initially diagnosed with SLE. In the course of the disease, she developed spondyloarthritis and genital psoriasis. She was initially medicated with secukinumab but maintained severe genital psoriasis, the reason it was changed to ixekizumab with great improvement. The second case refers to a 40-year-old woman who previously had spondyloarthropathy with D12 enthesitis and sacroiliitis. Initial treatment with adalimumab led to a lupus-like syndrome, with persistent high systemic inflammatory response syndrome and extreme fatigue. Because of the recrudescence of axial complaints, secukinumab was started and the patient evolved with a global clinical response. Thus, the authors present two cases of spondyloarthropathy and SLE that document the efficacy and safety of IL- 17 blockers, which can lead to the incorporation of these agents in the treatment of SLE.</p
Dental caries experience of 12 year old children from Resen municipality
Introduction: Despite scientific advances and the fact that caries is preventable, dental caries are still the most prevalent dental affliction of childhood within developing countries.Aims: The aim of this study was to assess dental caries in 12-year-old children from Resen municipality suited at the Pelagonia region of the Republic of North Macedonia. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, primary school children from sixth grades (N=158 ) were selected from (5) primary schools from the Resen municipality. The Dental status of the children was evaluated during 2020 year, using the 2013 World Health Organization caries diagnostic criteria for Decayed, Missing and Filled Teeth (DMFT) by 2 calibrated examiners. Data obtained during the survey was stored in a database and statistical analysis with SPSS v.21(IBM). Using the t-test, the data were tested for possible statistically significant differences. A p value< 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Parental consent was obtained for each child. Results: The total number of children (N=158) in the sample was comprising 71(44.94% ) females and 87(55,06%) males. The mean DMFT score of the whole sample was 1.82±1.82. The average DMFT score within female children was 1.70±2.03, while within male children was 1.92±1.64. The average DMFT score within children from urban area was 1.71±1.65, while within children from rural area was 1.94±1.98. The prevalence of caries free children was 36.08%.Conclusion: Тhe prevalence of dental caries within 12-year-old children from the Resen municipality and its surrounding was 63.92%.</p
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, more than an encephalopathy
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is a pathology associated with the presence of the JC virus, although it occurs in other conditions, nowadays most cases occur in patients with AIDS, in severe stages of immunosuppression. This condition, and hence its name, has always been associated with the presence of intracerebral lesions, where it can have a wide distribution. However, it is very rare, if ever, to report lesions of this disease in the spinal cord. We present a case of a 40-year-old patient, an HIV carrier in the AIDS stage, who, in addition to presenting brain lesions, had multiple lesions at the cervical spinal cord level. We believe that these lesions may be more common than believed and should be intentionally sought if possible.</p
Chaos, resistant and pseudoresistant hypertension “Thousands of butterflies in the BP control system”
In Cardiology, we classify hypertensive patients as resistant to treatment, pseudo-resistant, or hyperreactivity subjects, including the WCH (white-coat or masked hypertension). Compliance is another cause of failure in antihypertensive therapy. Hypertension is a complex clinical syndrome and many variables that interfere in BP depend on “The Theory of Chaos” and are not considered. We do not know how many variations the Chaos on BP levels can be. Still, as we have around 30% of “uncontrolled” patients, the Chaos and effects on BP regulation as taking part in this high rates of “uncontrolled” subjects. Chaos is a complicated issue to study, but multi-professional efforts must keep the attention to this relevant “cause” of hypertension. Finally, Chaos theory is well known and accepted in Maths, Economy, Philosophy, Meteorology, Ecology, and other areas of knowledge, but not in the Health area. Crescent attention to Chaos may help better understand some mechanisms and clinical expression of Chaos in pseudo-resistant hypertension and correlated hypertensive syndromes.</p
Intellectual property safe – First-to-File and First-to-Invent system
All countries use the First-to-File system. An inventor may feel very tense about the time race and the physical and cyber security of his intellectual properties. Biomedical researchers and inventors are particularly vulnerable since most of them may not possess enough IT knowledge to maintain cyber security. An Intellectual Property Safe System to protect the initial draft and/or prototypes is suggested.</p
Ethical problems in pediatric cardiology
The authors discuss new ethical problems associated with the use of modern diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in pediatric cardiology. They underline the role of pediatric cardiologists in the process of approaching specific ethical problems. In the assessment of specific medical problems, authors pay greater attention to ethical principles of beneficence and nonmaleficence, which continue to be problematic areas in pediatric cardiology.</p
Telemedicine in very elderly patients affected by end-stage Heart Failure: Wishful thinking or real opportunity?
Telemedicine is a network of computerization and telecommunication technologies that provides health care services to remote patients. There is increasing evidence that telemedicine interventions are associated with a reduction in hospital admission rates and mortality in patients with heart failure [1,2]. </p
