    Amygdala intercalated cells form an evolutionarily conserved system orchestrating brain networks

    The amygdala attributes valence and emotional salience to environmental stimuli and regulates how these stimuli affect behavior. Within the amygdala, a distinct class of evolutionarily conserved neurons form the intercalated cell (ITC) clusters, mainly located around the boundaries of the lateral and basal nuclei. Here, we review the anatomical, physiological and molecular characteristics of ITCs, and detail the organization of ITC clusters and their connectivity with one another and other brain regions. We describe how ITCs undergo experience-dependent plasticity and discuss emerging evidence demonstrating how ITCs are innervated and functionally regulated by neuromodulatory systems. We summarize recent findings showing that experience alters the balance of activity between different ITC clusters, thereby determining prevailing behavioral output. Finally, we propose a model in which ITCs form a key system for integrating divergent inputs and orchestrating brain-wide circuits to generate behavioral states attuned to current environmental circumstances and internal needs

    Digitalization, Work-Related Risk Factors and Well-Being: Importance and Interactions from Tree-Based Methods

    In today’s rapidly evolving workplace, the imperative to study workers’ well-being has never been more apparent, considering both job-related risk factors and challenges posed by the digital transformation. Utilizing a large dataset from the recent European Working Conditions Telephone Survey (EWCTS) 2021, we explore the impact of physical and psychosocial risk factors on well-being and their interaction with the attributes of new forms of work brought by digitalization. Our methodological framework employs a suite of decision tree-based methods and sophisticated visual tools, designed to extract insights through a non-parametric approach. Findings reveal that increasing physical and emotional exhaustion and the need for recognition are predominant factors affecting employee well-being. Additionally, we find strong links between psychosocial risks, telework, and job locations

    Flexible InGaZnO Thin-Film Transistors with Gelatin Gate Dielectric for Non-Volatile Memory

    Recently, the use of natural materials in device fabrication has become a significant trend in advancing ecofriendly and sustainable electronics, to achieve technologies with low carbon footprints and yet reliable functionality. This work demonstrates the utilization of gelatin, a natural protein, as a gate dielectric, in combination with InGaZnO semiconductor, to fabricate top-gated flexible Thin-Film Transistors (TFTs). More specifically, these devices exhibit non-volatile memory characteristics for 10V operation upon application of a voltage sweep of ±10V, with a maximum memory window of ≈12V and repetition for 100 continuous scans. Moreover, consistent static retention was obtained with a current on-off ratio of > 105 for 3 hours. The hygroscopic nature of gelatin enabled these devices to demonstrate reliable response as humidity sensor upon exposure to a humidity pulse (in the range between 42 % to 90 % Relative Humidity). In addition, TFTs demonstrated functionality during bending condition (down to 7mm bending radius) with 8 monthslong shelf-life

    Italiano La sentenza della Corte costituzionale 192/2024, secondo unanime opinione, costituisce un arresto di portata storica, per la natura e i contenuti affrontati e anche per la ricostruzione che offre dei principi e anche dei valori che definiscono il nostro ordinamento, a tratti rappresentati con un approccio quasi pedagogico. La Corte si fa carico infatti di dipanare alcuni aspetti essenziali del sistema costituzionale messi alla prova dalla legge 86/2024, “legge Calderoli”, e probabilmente non evasi pienamente dalla riforma del Titolo V della Costituzione, nel 2001, indicando, in primis, l’obiettivo di un punto di equilibrio tra principi costituzionali che tutti devono comporsi nel quadro dell’unità della Repubblica e dei suoi valori costituenti. Questa unità nella Repubblica, più volte e strenuamente richiamata, corrisponde a una prospettiva ordinamentale che, nella sentenza in commento, è tutt’uno con quella che deriva dall’appartenenza dell’Italia all’Unione europea, che la Corte risponde richiamando, in modo pregnante e diffuso, invocando il necessario rispetto dell’ordinamento comunitario che deriva, fondamentalmente, dall’art. 117, c. 1, Cost. English The Constitutional Court sentence 192/2024, by unanimous opinion, represents a setback of historic significance, both for the nature and content it addresses and for the reconstruction it offers of the principles and values that define our legal system, presented with an almost pedagogical approach. The Court undertakes to unravel some essential aspects of the constitutional system challenged by the law 86/2024, so called "Calderoli law," and likely not fully addressed by the 2001 reform of Title V of the Constitution. It indicates, first and foremost, the objective of achieving a balance between constitutional principles, all of which must be integrated within unity of the legal system of the Republic and its founding values. This unity within the Republic, repeatedly and strenuously invoked, corresponds to a regulatory perspective that, in the judgment under comment, is one with that deriving from Italy's membership in the European Union, to which the Court responds by recalling, in a meaningful and extensive manner, invoking the necessary respect for the Community legal system that derives, fundamentally, from Article 117, paragraph 1, of the Constitution
