    Observation of Exotic J/ψφ Resonant Structure in Diffractive Processes in Proton-Proton Collisions

    The first study of J/ψφ production in diffractive processes in proton-proton collisions is presented. The study is based on an LHCb dataset recorded at center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb-1. The data disfavor a nonresonant J/ψφ production but are consistent with a resonant model including several resonant states observed previously only in B+→J/ψφK+ decays. The χc0(4500) state is observed with a significance over 6σ and the χc1(4274) is confirmed with a significance of more than 4σ

    Minimizing Thighplasty Complications: A Combined Approach of J-Medial Pattern and Helium Plasma–Assisted Liposculpture

    Summary: Thighplasty is a widely performed body contouring procedure, using various surgical techniques for thigh lifting, including medial scar positioning, vertical and horizontal procedures, and liposuction. Despite its popularity, thighplasty is associated with high complication rates and suboptimal postoper- ative outcomes. This article presents a novel technique: the J-medial thighplasty combined with helium plasma radiofrequency (HPRF) technology to address moderate skin and soft-tissue laxity and ptosis in the inner thighs. Between 2020 and 2023, 21 patients underwent this combined procedure. The surgical approach involved selective liposuction in targeted areas, skin resection, and preservation of deep tissue layers, coupled with the application of HPRF in the lower third of the medial thigh. Results demonstrated significant reductions in thigh laxity, correction of skin overhang, and fat reduction, yielding improved functional and aesthetic outcomes in the lower thigh region. By strategically avoiding lymphatic vessels in superficial areas, the risk of secondary lymph- edema was minimized. Patient satisfaction was notably high, with both patients and surgeons reporting favorable results. In conclusion, the J-medial thigh- plasty combined with HPRF offers an effective and straightforward method for enhancing the lower thigh area with minimal complications. This innovative technique provides a promising solution for patients seeking improved thigh contouring while ensuring high levels of patient satisfaction

    Foliar application of Microfighter activates defense genes in grapevine: a preventive strategy against potential diseases.

    The increasing use of biopesticides to make viticulture more sustainable has led to questions about their mode of action in the field. In this study, the effect of the biopesticide Microfighter together with a Zinc-based biostimulant on grapevine was investigated at transcriptomic level. The dynamic expression of eight defense-related genes was assessed up to 72 hours post treatment. Expression profile of the tested genes showed distinct responses between both bioproducts in timing and amplitude. A fast response of PR (PR5 and PR11), PAL and SMAT1 genes in both treatments was highlighted, suggesting their possible involvement in priming the plant defense. Moreover, PAL and PR5 genes were identified as potential markers for the biopesticides activity

    Capillary Transport Analysis in Macro-Homogeneous Diffusion Media of PEM Fuel Cells

    The interplay of electrochemistry, two-phase flow, and heat transfer generates complex transport phenomena within the porous materials of fuel cells that are not yet fully understood. This lack of comprehensive understanding complicates the modeling of liquid water transport, which is critical because the hydration of the polymer electrolyte membrane significantly impacts the cell performance. The liquid water transport mechanisms in porous media can be explained by capillary force, hydraulic permeation and gravity effects, as well as water condensation and evaporation. In general, the liquid water transport is mainly driven by the capillary force, while body forces, such as gravity, do not significantly affect its momentum. Due to limited experimental data on capillary pressure and saturation in gas diffusion media, the Leverett approach has been widely used for modeling liquid water transport in PEMFCs. The Leverett approach is a polynomial fitting of capillary pressure data for water imbibition in unconsolidated sand packs. Due to its nature, this approach may not accurately predict capillary pressure in gas diffusion media. Fuel cell GDM materials, naturally hydrophilic, are typically coated with a nonwetting polymer like polytetrafluoroethylene to create hydrophobic surfaces and pores. The resulting nature of GDM materials, with intermediate wettability due to the coexistence of hydrophilic and hydrophobic pore spaces, complicates transport phenomena. Consequently, the applicability of the traditional Leverett approach is questionable. This work focuses on capillary transport within PEMFCs, highlighting key experimental and modeling approaches for predicting the capillary pressure-saturation relationship. Starting from the Leverett function, improved models have been proposed and are here implemented in a 3D-CFD model. This research provides an overview of key experimental and theoretical developments in understanding capillarity in PEMFCs. Furthermore, it implements selected capillary pressure correlations in a 3D-CFD model to evaluate their performance in simulating water transport within the porous media, providing guidelines for their use in large-scale models

    The use of the social robot NAO in medical settings: how to facilitate interactions between healthcare professionals and patients with autism spectrum disorder.

    Objectives: This study investigates how to facilitate the use of the social robot NAO in medical settings to support interactions with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The objective was to develop intuitive control methods that enable healthcare professionals to easily integrate the robot into clinical practice. Methods: Two control modes were designed: Puppet mode, where clinicians manually operate the robot via a graphical console, and Assistant mode, where a Large Language Model translates clinicians’ spoken requests into robot actions and dialogue. Twenty-three doctors evaluated both modes through video demonstrations and completed questionnaires assessing usability, usefulness, and ethical acceptability. Results: Both modes were considered effective and user-friendly. Assistant mode was perceived as more intuitive and adaptable, facilitating seamless interaction, whereas Puppet mode was judged slightly more reassuring for patients and somewhat more appropriate in terms of robot actions. Conclusion: Overall, both approaches were positively received, with Assistant mode emerging as the preferred option for integration into clinical workflows due to its perceived simplicity and flexibility. These findings highlight clinicians’ positive perceptions of two novel control modes and emphasize NAO’s potential to enhance patient engagement and reduce stress. Further empirical validation with children in real clinical trials is warranted to confirm these benefits and optimize robot-assisted interventions in ASD care

    Can AI-driven résumé screening reflect human competence complexity? A Corpus-Assisted Discourse Analysis of Curricula Vitae

    Taking into account the defining elements of the objectivist approach to the concept of competence, this paper shows how the growing employment of AI applications to résumé screening and evaluation seems to support and strengthen Competency-based Human Resource Management, by framing human competence as a measurable, observable, and predictable attribute. By focusing on the narrative and discursive dimension of a Curriculum Vitae, this study introduces and adopts a Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies approach to the analysis of résumés, thus suggesting a perspective on the notion of competence that results from the interplay between information included - or not - in traditional quantitative indicators and textual fields relating to personal capabilities, motivations and aspirations. Hence, this research is based on a corpus of Curricula Vitae submitted by recent graduates from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, whose self-representation is claimed to emerge from the interaction between different approaches in competencies reporting

    18F-FDG PET findings in Parkinson's disease associated to RAB32 S71R variant

    Objective: The RAB32 S71R variant has been linked to autosomal dominant Parkinson's disease (RAB32-PD), sharing common biological mechanisms with the leucine-rich repeat kinase-2 (LRRK2) gene. Measurement of regional differences in glucose metabolism with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET may improve the understanding of the neural mechanisms of RAB32-related PD and non-mutated PD (NM-PD). In this brief communication, we compared FDG-PET findings of eight RAB32-PD with a cohort of NM-PD. Methods: Brain FDG-PET study was performed during the ON medication condition under chronic dopaminergic treatment. All images were normalized to a standard FDG-PET template, then a semi-quantitative analysis was performed on a commercially available fully-automated post-processing software (Cortex ID SUITE, GE Healthcare). Clinical assessment included the MDS-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Continuous variables between groups were compared through the Mann-Whitney test while nominal/ordinal variables through the chi-squared test. Results: Eight RAB32-PD patients (males:3/8; age:65.38 years [±8.73]; disease duration:10.50 years [±5.88]; H&Y:2.81[±1.22]; MDS-UPDRS-III:36.38 [±25.34]; MoCA:24.88[±5.86]) and 19 NM-PD patients (males:11/19; age:60.53 years [±8.00]; disease duration:8.68 years [±5.70]; H&Y:2.39 [±.51]; MDS-UPDRS-III:29.95 [±11.14]; MoCA:24.21 [±6.07]) were included. No statistically significant differences in FDG-PET data and clinical variables were found between RAB32-PD and NM-PD cohorts. In the majority of RAB-32 PD patients a prevalent parietal hypometabolism was observed, similar to previous findings reported in LRRK2-related PD and NM-PD. Interpretation: This study represents the first description of FDG-PET findings in RAB32-PD patients, highlighting a possible similar pattern of hypometabolism with LRRK2- and NM-PD. Additional studies with matched and comparable control cohorts are needed to confirm these preliminary results

Civ. n. 24595/2024 della Sezione Lavoro sancisce l’illegittimità della particolare modalità di volantinaggio sindacale nota come “uomo-sandwich”, ritenendola incompatibile con i limiti delineati dagli artt. 25 e 26 dello Statuto dei Lavoratori. La Corte evidenzia come l’esposizione prolungata e continuativa del materiale sindacale, imposta alla vista dei lavoratori per l’intera durata della prestazione lavorativa, possa costituire una fonte di distrazione costante, tale da pregiudicare il regolare svolgimento delle attività aziendali e incidere negativamente sull’equilibrio organizzativo.With the decision no. 24595/2024 of the Labour Section, the Supreme Court declares the illegitimacy of the specific form of union leaflet distribution known as the “sandwich man,” deeming it incompatible with the limitations established by Articles 25 and 26 of the Workers’ Statute (Law no. 300/1970).
