Who translates? Translated identity as oikological identity
The paper approaches the topic ‘translation after translation’ from
the point of view of the translator. The aim of these pages is to
support the idea that the one who translates does not only carry
out a task or a job but rather exemplifies every identity, shaping
it up as oikological identity. This term is created from the Greek
word oikos, which means dwelling, and suggests that identity is
made up not through self-reflection by the self. Rather, identity
emerges because one dwells (and for this reason every identity is
oikological) and, by dwelling, identities translate themselves, one
next to the other, turning themselves into translated identities.
Through this, the question of ‘who’ translates extends to any
‘who’, conveying that translation, in addition to being a job and a
task, is a way of being and of being worldly. Finally, through the
association of metaphor and translation, this paper proposes the
figure of chiasmus to express oikological identities as translated
identities, pointing out that when one translates, two worlds and
cultures cross, giving life to an always new ‘who’ that translation
alone creates

ML-predicted surgical site infections: An epidemiological study utilizing machine learning on routinely collected healthcare data to predict infection risk
Background: Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a major public health issue, causing increased morbidity, longer hospital stays, and higher healthcare costs. Despite progress in infection control, predicting and preventing SSIs remain crucial for improving patient outcomes. This study examines the use of machine learning (ML) on routinely collected healthcare data (RCD) to predict SSIs in orthopaedic surgery, aiming to improve risk stratification and guide interventions. Objectives: To develop, test, and validate an ML predictive model using RCD to assess SSI risk in orthopaedic surgery patients. Methods: A retrospective study was carried out using RCD from a 1.2 million population in an Italian Local Health Authority, covering surgeries from 2017 to 2021. The population included patients undergoing hip or knee arthroplasty and open reduction of fractures. Several ML algorithms, including eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), were used for model development. The models’ performance was assessed by recall, accuracy, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). A feature importance analysis identified key SSI risk predictors. Results: The XGBoost model demonstrated superior performance, with a recall exceeding 70% and an AUC>0.70, overcoming other methods. Significant predictors included the ASA classification, opioid use, priority class of the surgery operation, and length of hospital stay. Conclusions: ML models, particularly XGBoost, effectively predicted SSI risk in orthopaedic patients, offering a new approach to infection control and prevention. Incorporating ML and RCD highlights the potential for scalable, data-driven personalized medicine interventions. Future research will focus on model validation and integration of these tools into healthcare systems for enhanced patient management
Ageing, disability, and the adoption of technology among Italian older adults
Assuming the Senior Technology Acceptance Model as a framework, the objective of this study is to investigate the level of adoption of gerontechnology among the Italian elderly with disabilities, as well as the influence of disability-related factors on the use and attitudes towards technologies. We carried out qualitative research including older people who acquired the disability early in life and people who acquired the disability as they aged and sought to highlight possible differences in their technology adoption strategies. Through narrative analysis, the results indicate that the age of onset of disability seems to mediate both perceptions of usefulness and general attitudes towards gerontechnology, increasing the sense of self-efficacy and decreasing the anxiety resulting from its use. Artificial intelligence in healthcare: transforming patient safety with intelligent systems—A systematic review
Introduction: Adverse events in hospitals significantly compromise patient safety and trust in healthcare systems, with medical errors being a leading cause of death globally. Despite efforts to reduce these errors, reporting remains low, and effective system changes are rare. This systematic review explores the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical risk management.
Methods: The systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA Statement 2020 guidelines to ensure a comprehensive and transparent approach. We utilized the online tool Rayyan for efficient screening and selection of relevant studies from three different online bibliographic.
Results: AI systems, including machine learning and natural language processing, show promise in detecting adverse events, predicting medication errors, assessing fall risks, and preventing pressure injuries. Studies reveal that AI can improve incident reporting accuracy, identify high-risk incidents, and automate classification processes. However, challenges such as socio-technical issues, implementation barriers, and the need for standardization persist.
Discussion: The review highlights the effectiveness of AI in various applications but underscores the necessity for further research to ensure safe and consistent integration into clinical practices. Future directions involve refining AI tools through continuous feedback and addressing regulatory standards to enhance patient safety and care quality

Photography in Children’s Literature in the 1960s and 1970s. A bibliographic review of Italian publishing houses and projects
The article aims to explore the Italian editorial landscape related to photographic books for children, with particular reference to the period between the sixties and seventies. In fact, after having presented the major changes that have taken place since the 1960s in the world of children’s publishing, with the birth of publishing houses such as Emme Edizioni, an in-depth discussion on the use of photography as a narrative language for children is presented. The innovative proposals of Bruno Munari, Giovanni Belgrano and Mario Mariotti and other authors and artists will be illustrated, as well as the use that Mario Lodi made of photography through the serial publication «Biblioteca
di lavoro». Finally, will be proposed a reflection on photo books in the current publishing market in Italy
Beyond convenience, toward technology: a qualitative study on consumer behavior emerging trends in vending machines
This study investigates the evolving consumer behavior within the vending machine industry, emphasizing the role of emerging technologies and gamification in shaping customer experiences. Through qualitative analysis of 20 in-depth interviews with vending machine users aged 20-50, key themes were identified: consumer habits and purchasing experiences, the integration of advanced technologies, and gamification strategies. Findings suggest a shift from traditional, impulse-driven purchases to more immersive and planned interactions facilitated by personalization, fresh and locally sourced products, and innovative technologies such as augmented reality. Gamification emerged as a promising avenue for fostering consumer engagement and loyalty, particularly through point-collection systems and sustainable choices. This research highlights the potential for vending machines to transition into dynamic retail spaces that align with modern consumer expectations, offering actionable insights for managers aiming to innovate in this sector

Il libro raccoglie i contributi presentati in occasione del primo convegno di ricerca e didattica organizzato nel marzo 2024 dall’Università di Macerata (Sezione di Linguistica Letteratura Filologia del Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici) in collaborazione con il Gruppo Editoriale ELi, nel quale si è inteso indagare la presenza e il ruolo delle donne nella letteratura italiana, sia nelle vesti di autrici, sia come personaggi di finzione.
L’incontro delle voci diversificate e complementari degli esperti che si sono alternati negli interventi ha consentito di approfondire un tema di straordinaria attualità. Che si tratti di vere e proprie protagoniste o di presenze salvate dalla minaccia dell’oblio, di figure indimenticabili nel canone letterario o valorizzate in tempi recenti, il percorso segue le tracce e l’evoluzione delle figure femminili della letteratura italiana attraverso i secoli, dal Medioevo fino all’età contemporanea
