Gender socialisation and identity formation across generations

Abstract This paper explores the contemporary relevance of gender socialisation within the broader framework of identity formation and intergenerational education processes. Drawing on sociological and interdisciplinary perspectives, the authors examine how gender identity is shaped through dynamic interactions across various socialisation contexts—family, school, peer groups, and media—highlighting the increasing fluidity and complexity of gender roles in postmodern society. The study reflects on the evolving meanings of masculinity and femininity, addressing the interplay between structural change and individual agency. Emphasis is placed on the relational dimension of gender, viewing it not as a fixed attribute but as a socially constructed process influenced by cultural models, generational transmission, and contextual negotiations. The analysis further considers the ambivalence between homogenisation and differentiation tendencies in gender identity construction, arguing for an integrated and reflexive approach to understanding gender as a relational resource. In doing so, the paper contributes to ongoing debates on gender equality, diversity, and education in contemporary multicultural societies. Keywords: gender, socialization, education, generations, identity

‘Detached youth work’: origin and growth of street education with informal youth groups

    No full text
Among contemporary educational practices with young people, Street Education is one of the possible approaches for planning interventions and deal with adolescents. Nevertheless, Street Education comes from the experience of detached youth work. The term entered professional vocabulary in pedagogy and social work fields between the 1950s and 1960s. At that time, in the United Kingdom, wide groups of the youth population were considered ‘detached’ from traditional society. The most widespread concern among policymakers was that young people were gradually fleeing social control. For this reason, organizations and national institutions in Britain considered of primary importance to find new methods of social work, with a firm aim: to re-connect with young people in their everyday life contexts, linking back to experiences, languages, and relationships with which adult figures of reference – parents, educators, politicians, role models – where no longer in contact. This moment in history of social work can be identified as the origin of detached youth work and street education practices. Taking the good practices already in use in the U.S. as a starting point – in particular, the ones used in the metropolitan area of NYC in the same period – detached youth work and street education became a solid methodology developed through to the present days in most of European countries, at the same rate as the youth policies promoted by the European Council, representing a unique way to work with young people bringing together the social and physical dimensions of public space

Does Efficiency Matter in M&A of FinTech Firms?

    No full text
The increasing presence of FinTech firms is reshaping the structure, behaviour and business models of the different players operating within the financial sector. The aim of this study is to understand whether there is any relationship between the achievement of specific efficiency levels by FinTech firms and their greater/minor involvement in M&A transactions. Since such a relationship could be in the opposite direction, the topic is important for a wide range of financial stakeholders, from individual investors to key market players and regulators. We measured efficiency via two different Stochastic Data Envelopment Analysis (SDEA) models. The results, obtained starting from a hand-collected data set made up of Italian FinTechs operating in the period 2021–2023, show that M&A transactions essentially involved firms characterised by both quite high or quite low levels of efficiency

La disciplina della giurisdizione e della legge applicabile nelle azioni relative a danni all’ambiente e la sua incidenza sull’accesso alla giustizia ambientale

The author discusses some recent cases concerning actions against multi-national corporations for environmental damage, revealing the shortcomings inherent in the European system of allocation of jurisdiction in civil and commercial matters, as currently embodied in Regulation (EU) No. 1215/2012 (Brussels I-bis Regulation), as generally based on the prerequisite of the domicile of the defendant being located in a Member State. It is accordingly regrettable that the initial proposals put forward in 2020 by the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament for amending, on the one side, the Brussels I-bis Regulation in terms of jurisdiction, and, on the other side, the Rome II Regulation in terms of applicable law, as concerns actions for human rights violations committed within the value chain of the enterprises addressed in the recently adopted EU Directive on Corporate sustainability due diligence, have not followed course. The author finally discusses the compromise solution retained in the latter Directive as finally adopted, whereby Member States shall treat as overridingly mandatory rules (lois de police) the national rules of liability implementing the said Directive in case the law applicable is that of a third country, noting that the said solution would prove of little avail in case no court in a Member State subject to the Directive would have jurisdiction in respect of a dispute raising the sort of issues under consideration
