3D Digital Reconstructions as an Educational Resource for Teaching Classical Disciplines: The Case of Strabo and Alexandria in Egypt

    No full text
This study analyses the educational potential of integrating digital technologies, specifically three-dimensional reconstructions of ancient cities based on scientific and archaeological criteria, into the teaching of classical subjects. The proposed teaching pathway, designed for third-year students at the IIS "De Filippis - Galdi" in Cava de’ Tirreni, is structured in four phases: 1) a philological and content-based analysis of passages from Strabo concerning the description of Alexandria; 2) a guided viewing of an archaeological lecture aimed at providing historical and topographical context for the text; 3) the exploration of audiovisual materials featuring 3D reconstructions of the city, including the selection and critical commentary of representative screenshots; 4) the administration of a questionnaire intended to assess: students’ subjective perception and their actual comprehension of the content. The underlying hypothesis of this approach is that the use of three-dimensional reconstructions, when embedded in a structured and pedagogically coherent learning path, constitutes

Applications of Artificial Intelligence in On-Site Crime Scene Analysis: a systematic review of Automated Forensic Techniques

    No full text
The crime scene represents a pivotal moment in the investigative process—complex, dynamic, and unrepeatable. It is the first point of contact between the criminal act and the judicial system, and the foundation upon which evidence collection, event reconstruction, and courtroom narratives are built. The quality and epistemic robustness of the sources of evidence gathered at this stage critically influence the entire judicial trajectory. Yet, despite its recognized centrality, crime scene analysis remains fragile: lacking international procedural standards, subject to contextual variability, and heavily reliant on the subjective interpretation of forensic professionals. These vulnerabilities compromise replicability and reliability, contributing to judicial errors. Compounding these issues are systemic challenges—high costs, personnel shortages, inter-laboratory heterogeneity, and delays incompatible with investigative urgency. In this context, artificial intelligence emerges as a transformative ally. Techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision offer the potential to automate complex tasks, standardize procedures, and enhance analytical accuracy. Far from replacing human expertise, these tools aim to augment it, fostering a more objective, scalable, and scientifically grounded investigative process. This systematic review critically examines the current landscape of AI applications directly at the crime scene, assessing their effectiveness, maturity, and integration potential, while identifying methodological gaps and future directions

A Data-Centric Module for Neural Rendering

    No full text
Recent advances in Novel-View Synthesis (NVS) and 3D Generation (3DGen) from 2D images have marked significant progress in various domains. While the Structure-from-Motion (SfM) and Multi-View Stereo (MVS) pipelines remain prevalent, their limitations have driven the exploration of Deep Learning (DL)-based methods. Among these, Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) stand out for their exceptional capabilities in novel view synthesis and 3D reconstruction. However, their reliance on large, diverse 2D images for training, which capture the same scene from different perspectives, poses challenges. To address these challenges, our research proposes a module that introduces innovative data-centric strategies to improve the fidelity of novel view synthesis and reconstruction of NeRFs. In particular, the adopted strategy relies on depth priors, RGB masks, geometrical warping, and deep learning-based image restoration to improve the training and performance of NeRF models, following a human-in-the-loop approach. This module paves the way for a novel data-centric and DL-driven, to improve performances in NeRFs, which is adaptable across different NeRF architectures. Through a comprehensive quantitative-qualitative analysis of such a framework, on a challenging NeRF benchmark dataset, we demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of our approach

Banlieues 2005-2025: De la révolte à l'art / From revolt to art

    No full text
How does art emerge from revolt? Twenty years after the riots that engulfed the French suburbs, this volume analyses literary, linguistic and artistic representations of France’s urban peripheries. Contributions examine how writers, filmmakers, and artists from these regions construct counter-narratives responding to dominant media and political discourses. Through an analysis of works produced since the 2005 riots, this book explores the aesthetic and social issues involved in this increasingly central cultural output. It also highlights how literature, cinema, and art are contributing to the rewriting of the French national narrative and the legitimisation of long-marginalised voices
