Enhancing internationalization of SMEs through the «100% Made in Italy» certification: an empirical study

    No full text
This study employs a quantitative approach to explore the significance of the «100% Made in Italy» Certification in enhancing the global competitiveness and internationalization of Italian firms. It also investigates the pivotal roles of digitalization in driving Italian SMEs’ business success. Through a survey conducted among 57 respondent companies, the research examines the certification’s utility in facilitating international expansion and its impact on sales performance. The findings highlight a positive perception of the certification, underscoring its effectiveness in distinguishing products in international markets. Theoretically, the study explores the «Made in» label or Country of Origin (COO) effect on industry. It emphasizes the key role of SMEs in the «Made in Italy» brand, analyzes the impact of the «100% Made in Italy» Certification and evaluates how digitalization offers vital opportunities for the internationalization of Italian SMEs. Moreover, the study identifies a beneficial relationship between the certification, digital transformation initiatives and international business strategies, all contributing to improved sales outcomes for the firms under scrutiny

AI Act e pacing problem: la disciplina dell'IA per finalità generali

    No full text
The contribution offers a reflection on the concept of the pacing problem, a challenge inherent in the regulation of technology, with which the EU legislator had to confront when the need arose to introduce, during the legislative process of the AI Act, rules on general-purpose AI. To this end, the contribution aims at analysing the mechanisms of flexibility introduced by the AI Act in order to cope with the pacing problem, with a view to delve deeper into the emblematic example of the regulation of general-purpose AI, tracing back the different phases of the legislative process and highlighting the difficulties encountered by the legislator at the moment of including the said discipline in the regulation

Improving the quality of life and longevity of the elderly: the role of private versus public health

    No full text
We develop an overlapping generations model to study how the combination of public and private health expenditures affects the health status and/or longevity of the elderly, as well as its impact on steady-state economic growth. We find that two distinct scenarios may arise-one with and one without reliance on private health care-depending on the relative value of private versus public health spending. In both cases, a positive locally asymptotically steady state emerges in terms of capital per worker, and a switch between regimes may occur depending on the share of public balance spent on the health system. Furthermore, increasing such a share increases the equilibrium longevity, while the effects on health status are ambiguous. Specifically, when the effectiveness of public expenditure is low, increasing public resources allocated to healthcare does not necessarily lead to improvements in health status. In contrast, when public spending is highly effective, greater allocation of public resources becomes a powerful tool to improve health status in old age

Creativity and aesthetic evaluation of AI-generated artworks: bridging problems and methods from psychology to AI

    No full text
This paper contributes to the debate on creativity, art, and artificial intelligence (AI) by integrating insights from cognitive psychology and empirical aesthetics into the field of AI, with the goal of inspiring novel empirical research. We focus on two main topics. First, we examine the indices used in psychology to operationalize creativity in closed-ended and open-ended tasks, with the aim not only of demonstrating the multidimensionality involved in defining creativity, but also of stimulating reflection on the benefits that might arise from developing a similar standard set of indices to test AI scoring models for assessing creativity (of both human and AI-generated responses). Second, we focus on the situation in which the creative products generated by AI are works of art, and on their aesthetic evaluation by non-expert human observers. Bridging the literature developed in psychology of art and empirical aesthetics with the literature on AI, a number of questions emerge, regarding the bias about the “expected style” of AI-generated art, and possible variables that play a role in aversion to AI-generated art. They all suggest possible future empirical research directions

Environmental quality and dishonest behavior: the role of enforcement under propensity for greenery

    No full text
Climate change, partly driven by rising emissions, has damaging and often irreversible impacts on entire economies. In this context, production processes play a crucial role, as they affect the level of pollution, causing environmental degradation, and affecting human health. Sustainable production methods and stricter environmental regulations can help mitigate these effects. However, their effectiveness depends on many factors as, for instance, the attitude towards greenery by firms and their convenience in breaking the rules. In the present work, we propose a dynamic framework to describe how and in which measure the production processes influence the environmental quality, considering the presence of non-compliant firms and the attitude toward greenery. We obtain a 3D piecewise-smooth dynamical system describing the evolution of the fraction of polluting firms, themonitoring level by the State, and the environmental quality over time. By analyzing the effects on environmental quality of the environmental regulation enforcement for different greenery propensities, we show that: (1) if the propensity for greenery is high, the system will converge towards a good equilibrium, that is, with high environmental quality and absence of dishonest companies; (2) if the propensity for greenery is at an intermediate level, the system may converge towards good or bad equilibria; (3) if the propensity for greenery is low, further internal attractors may emerge

Public Archaeology in Marginal Contexts: The Case of Sant'Angelo in Vado (Italy)

    No full text
The team from the University of Macerata reflects on the utilization of cultural heritage and archaeology in a modest territorial context, focusing on a small ancient site that has undergone stratigraphic excavation for over twenty years. This work aims to foster the development of local identity and collective knowledge. The study highlights the numerous public archaeology initiatives undertaken over the past three years, despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic. These initiatives include site visits, public meetings and debates, storytelling, and artistic performances, all designed to engage and raise awareness among citizens. The goal is to illustrate that not only prominent archaeological sites, but also smaller, marginal contexts can contribute significantly to the understanding and appreciation of community identity, archaeological heritage, and the promotion of sustainable touris

Intersections.
