No full textTaiteiden tiedekunnan Arktikum-talon Valo- ja Katve-gallerioissa avautuu Hearing the Silence -yhteisnäyttely, jossa taiteilijat antavat äänen sukupuolittuneeseen väkivaltaan liittyville kokemuksille ja tunteille. Näyttelyn kuusi kansainvälistä kuvataiteilijaa lähestyvät teemaa antaen paikoin hiljaisen ja hauraan, paikoin voimakkaan ja nousevan äänen näiden kokemusten ja tunteiden ilmaisulle. Näyttelyn avajaisia vietetään keskiviikkona 15. lokakuuta klo 18–20 ja näyttelyyn pääsee vapaasti tutustumaan Arktikumin aukioloaikoina 7. joulukuuta asti. Tervetuloa!Näyttelyn nimi, Hearing the Silence, viittaa sukupuolittuneen väkivallan ympärillä vahvana elävään vaikenemisen kulttuuriin. Kaikki tapaukset eivät päädy tilastoihin, jaetuiksi tai kerrotuiksi.Taiteilijat käsittelevät teoksissaan naisiin, transsukupuolisiin ihmisiin tai naisiksi itsensä identifioiviin henkilöihin kohdistuvaa väkivaltaa. Sukupuolittunut väkivalta on laaja globaali ongelma ja ihmisoikeusrikkomus. Maailmanlaajuisesti joka kolmas nainen on kokenut elämänsä aikana fyysistä väkivaltaa, väkivallan uhkaa tai seksuaaliväkivaltaa. Suomessa fyysistä väkivaltaa, uhkailua tai seksuaaliväkivaltaa on kokenut 57 prosenttia naisista ja 46 prosenttia miehistä. Luvut ovat Euroopan korkeimpia.Simi Ruotsalaisen videoteoksessa näkökulma on transihmisten. Jonna Tolonen liittää julisteisiinsa tarinoita piiloon jääneistä, epäselvistä kohtaloista. Rosamaría Bolom pohtii julkisissa tiloissa, kuten kaduilla näkyvää vastarintaa. Mari Mäkirannan ja Patricia Rodasin valokuva- ja videoteoksissa tulevat näkyviin intiimit ja henkilökohtaiset tasot. Marte Lill Somby käsittelee installaatiossaan saamelaisyhteisön naisten kokemaa lähisuhdeväkivaltaa. Näyttelyssä on esillä myös Jonna Tolosen ääni-installaatio ja Shizukana -nimimerkillä julkaistua musiikkia, joka keskittyy lähisuhdeväkivaltaan. Shizukanan albumista saatava tuotto lahjoitetaan Suomen ensi- ja turvakotien liitolle.Hearing the Silence -näyttely etsii keinoja ja vaihtoehtoja väkivaltaisille kulttuurisille kuvastoille ja väkivallasta puhumiselle. Näyttelyn kantavana voimana ovat väkivaltaan liittyvän hiljaisuuden ja häpeän purkaminen, kollektiivinen voima ja yhteiskunnallisen muutoksen ja kohtaamisen mahdollisuus. Näyttelyn kuratoinnissa on kiinnitetty huomio siihen, etteivät teokset toista tai uusinna väkivaltaa. Näyttelyssä ei ole esillä väkivaltaisia kuvia tai esityksiä.Näyttelyyn liittyy yleisölle avoin seminaari, joka järjestetään kansainvälisenä naisiin kohdistuvan väkivallan vastaisena päivänä, 25.11.2025 klo 10–16 Arktikumin Polarium-salissa. Evaluation of Beyond MaaS Concept and Technical Solution:Case Enriched Travel Chains
No full textThe Beyond MaaS concept aims at combining digital mobility services with the digitalized information about the contexts and reasons of mobility in an intelligent way. Trip planners and various degrees of MaaS approaches have made public transportation easier to use but the modal shift to more sustainable mobility is still lagging the goals. Integrating rich, machine-readable digital representation of destinations and services making people to travel and mobility service, it is possible to optimize human activities as a whole and create new schemes that attract people more often to use sustainable transport modes. This paper provides an example of the Beyond MaaS concept aimed at tourism in rural areas: Enriched Travel Chains. The concept aims at making multi-part public transportation travel chains more attractive by automatically suggesting the traveler PoIs and activities for the waiting times between the travel chain parts. Enriched Trip Planner (ETP) realizes the concept as a web application. The first experiences from the implementation reveals the challenges with scarcity and quality of tourist service and PoI data. Fostering security of supply in contract-based preparedness in the public sector through the proactive contracting and legal design approaches
Get PDFThe article discusses proactive contracting and legal design approaches and their role in enhancing contract-based preparedness and supply resilience in the public sector. It focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on public procurement and supply chains, mainly in the healthcare sector in Finland. The pandemic exposed the need to prepare for unconventional threats and emphasized the importance of effective supply chain management. However, the classical legal approach and competitive tender mentality have dominated public procurement processes and contracts, limiting resilience and flexibility. PC and LD see contracts as multifaceted tools for preventing problems and promoting business success, and relationships. The article discusses tensions at the intersections of public procurement, supply resilience and proactive contracting and legal design approaches, and opportunities for enhancing contract-based preparedness. Plant diversity dynamics over space and time in a warming Arctic
No full textThe Arctic is warming four times faster than the global average and plant communities are responding through shifts in species abundance, composition and distribution. However, the direction and magnitude of local changes in plant diversity in the Arctic have not been quantified. Using a compilation of 42,234 records of 490 vascular plant species from 2,174 plots across the Arctic, here we quantified temporal changes in species richness and composition through repeat surveys between 1981 and 2022. We also identified the geographical, climatic and biotic drivers behind these changes. We found greater species richness at lower latitudes and warmer sites, but no indication that, on average, species richness had changed directionally over time. However, species turnover was widespread, with 59% of plots gaining and/or losing species. Proportions of species gains and losses were greater where temperatures had increased the most. Shrub expansion, particularly of erect shrubs, was associated with greater species losses and decreasing species richness. Despite changes in plant composition, Arctic plant communities did not become more similar to each other, suggesting no biotic homogenization so far. Overall, Arctic plant communities changed in richness and composition in different directions, with temperature and plant–plant interactions emerging as the main drivers of change. Our findings demonstrate how climate and biotic drivers can act in concert to alter plant composition, which could precede future biodiversity changes that are likely to affect ecosystem function, wildlife habitats and the livelihoods of Arctic people
Understanding regional variability in water, energy, and food (WEF) security:an Arctic case-study
Get PDFArctic nations are among the most water, energy, and food (WEF) secure nations of the world. National indices can, however, mask intra-regional disparities that exist within nations. The variable conditions of remote and sparsely populated regions are at particular risk of being obscured through the aggregation of national-level reporting. In this paper, we present the results of a regional (N = 27) assessment of WEF security in six Arctic states. Our assessment found considerable variability that ranged from highly secure to highly insecure regions that differ dramatically from state-level reporting. With few exceptions, Alaska and northern Canada suffer from higher rates of WEF insecurity than the northern regions of Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland. Although logistical, demographic, and climatic conditions contribute to these differing conditions, inequitable public investment in WEF services is a major constraint to service provisioning. Whereas regions in the European Arctic enjoy conditions of relative WEF security, they too may be challenged to maintain these conditions and adapt to not only a changing climate but also geo-political uncertainties that could obstruct the delivery of WEF services. Being attentive to dynamic conditions will be a critical and necessary step to achieving sustained WEF security in all Arctic regions.</p
