Relate North:Lessons of the Land
The twelfth volume in the Relate North series explores art, design, craft, and education in the North, Arctic, and near-Arctic regions. This volume brings together diverse perspectives on Land-Based education in the arts. Contributors recognise the Land as a vibrant teacher, with agency that shapes learning on, through, and with the Land. Indigenous pedagogies and research inform these chapters, offering insights into how creative practices, wellbeing, and worldviews are deeply interconnected with the Land. While set in Circumpolar regions—including Scandinavia, Greenland, and Canada—the themes resonate far beyond the North, inspiring educators, artists, and researchers worldwide to embrace the lessons of the Land in art and design education

Entangled histories of the Sámi and the Nordic nations:colonial legacies of the Sámi national narratives
This chapter sheds light on the entanglement of the histories of the Sámi and the Nordic nations. In other words, this research draws attention to the long timespan over which the national narrative of the Sámi has developed at multiple levels in relation to the surrounding societies, and also lays bare the ways in which it carries the legacy of colonialism. The Sámi have been in a subordinate position vis-à-vis the Nordic nations, and they have been conceived of as “the other” in the national projects of the Nordic states. The Sámi political movement originated largely in response to the colonialist politics of the Nordic states. The institutionalisation and development of the Sámi society is often discussed by framing the Sámi as a nation by placing a particular focus on Sámi actors or by emphasising the ways in which various activities embody Sáminess. However, this chapter shifts its focus to explore how the pursuit of nationhood, in a modern context, has been presented as an ideal or model for the Sámi to aspire to. While this has had empowering and constructive effects on Sámi society, it may have limited opportunities to develop society from the Sámi perspective
Social Podcasting:Levels of Podcast Audience Participation
This research investigates social podcasting, focusing on the evolution of audience participation from passive consumption to active participation. Unlike traditional podcasts, social podcasting empowers listeners to contribute creatively, transforming them from consumers to co-creators. The research question “What are the levels of audience participation on the basis of produsage principles in social podcasting?” is addressed by developing a five-level model of participation. Analysis of 81 podcasts reveals that genuine participatory acts remain scarce, with many podcasts not progressing beyond basic interaction. The study highlights the potential for podcasts to foster community through participatory models and collaborative content creation.</p
