    Strategy

    No full text
Strategy is traditionally understood as a plan of action for organizations to succeed in their operating environment. While some critical management studies have addressed the gendered nature of strategy, the impact of feminist theorizing is limited in strategy research. This includes the field of strategy-as-practice (SAP) studies, which challenge mainstream strategy research by examining how strategy is done and how strategy work is enabled or constrained by institutionalized practices. This entry moves from gender studies to feminist inquiry, and questions knowledge production in strategy research. Drawing from feminist phenomenology and autoethnography, the entry demonstrates the gendered nature of strategizing and how embodied knowledge production contributes to strategizing.</p

Sounding bodies along the UKK Hiking Trail, Finland

    No full text
The paper discusses sounding bodies and multispecies relations within tourism practices. It joins emerging attempts to challenge the anthropocentric tourism paradigm and to recognise more-than-human entanglements by engaging with sound through a relational approach. Rather than thinking of the soundscape as the aural equivalent to the visual panorama, which one visits and listens to passively from a distance, we explore the idea of intra-active “sounding bodies” which share the atmosphere with other sounding bodies as they move, and are, in Tim Ingold’s words “ensounded” during the practice of hiking. The study is grounded in a longer-term engagement by the researcher-practitioners along the UKK hiking trail in Finland and draws upon empirical listening encounters in the summer months of 2024. Through the use of the Merlin Bird ID app and an AudioMoth remote sensing device, the paper explores how various listening and sounding practices can stretch our anthropocentric ears and lead to new considerations for tourism practitioners and hikers

EU Space Law and Earth's Boundaries:Integrating Environmental Impact Assessment and Corporate Due Diligence

    No full text
The European Union's proposed Space Law aims to establish a unified approach for sustainable space activities across the EU. While the EU's satellite constellations contribute to sustainability efforts, they can also have negative environmental impacts. This article argues that to address the challenges of space environment sustainability and the impact of space activities on Earth's planetary boundaries (EPB), the EU Space Law should incorporate environmental impact assessments (EIA) and public-private governance measures tailored for the space sector. The article examines potential interactions among EU space activities and existing legal frameworks, such as the outer space law regime, the EU's EIA Directive, and corporate social responsibility developments, including the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The analysis focuses on the relationship between the EPB approach and outer space activities, due diligence and strict liability in relation to intergenerational equity and future generations in international law, and the applicability of EIA and corporate governance to the emergent EU Space Law. The article emphasizes the importance of incorporating environmental and social considerations into the governance of space activities to protect outer space-Earth complex systems.</p

Arctic urban water management:Rain and snow in Rovaniemi, Finland

    No full text
In the Arctic city of Rovaniemi, which is experiencing rapid growth due to a winter tourism boom, engineers and architects are developing new stormwater management strategies. Because the ground is frozen for more than half the year, absorption and infiltration in “nature-based solutions” from warmer climates require adaptation. This article explores how additional green–blue infrastructure would have the combined effect of making the city more attractive during summer and reducing pluvial floods and pollution of the adjacent river. However, it will be asserted that in this densely constructed area, previous efforts were focused on catering to winter tourism and on making winter commuting safe with the prospect of increasingly frequent winter rainfalls and snowmelts. Because of the lack of space, snow cannot be left where it falls to melt in spring. Instead, large machinery moves the accumulating masses of snow to the outskirts of town, where it is considered hazardous waste rather than a resource on which a city thrives. This article argues that for Rovaniemi, the prevailing paradigm shift in urban water management demands stronger consideration of stormwater integration.</p
