Since the introduction of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), higher education institutions play vital roles preparing future graduates for global challenges by integrating SDG elements into the curriculum that meets the purpose of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This study comprises the SDG integration in 47 undergraduate programmes and 25 postgraduate programmes across 10 faculties in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Our academic management system has recorded the mapping of SDG integration in courses offered in the programmes as part of the learning units or course learning outcomes (CLO). This paper presents the integration distribution of all 17 SDGs on UNIMAS’ academic programmes by descriptive statistics and a treemap to visualize the SDG coverage magnitude in offered courses, while at the faculty level, heat maps illustrate relevant SDG variations based on disciplines. The findings show that all SDGs were integrated into the curriculum; however the coverage is uneven, with SDG4 (Quality Education), SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) dominating the SDG integration coverage. Other SDGs, such as SDG2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) had the least coverage, with only 4% integration in the total course offered, indicating potential gaps. This study concludes by recommending enhanced SDG coverage through greater faculty involvement in interdisciplinary projects and stronger involvement with both the community and industry

Vitamin and isotonic drinks formulated from Engkala (Litsea garciae) bark methanolic crude extract were developed using carefully selected ingredients. The Wellness Engkala Refresh is an isotonic drink, while the Engkala Wellness Boost is a vitamin-enriched beverage. The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) confirms that, although the methanolic crude extract was initially classified as a potentially harmful substance, it is safe for consumption after undergoing optimized extraction and freeze-drying techniques. These processes effectively remove residual methanol while preserving the extract’s bioactive compounds. Comprehensive standard finished product testing verified that the formulation met all required safety and quality specifications. Additionally, a sixmonth stability study confirmed the product's compliance with industry standards, ensuring its efficacy and shelf-life stability

THE EMPIRICAL EXAMINATION OF VALUE CREATION CRITERIA: ACHIEVING CONSENSUS USING DELPHI EXERCISE WITHIN SERVICE INDUSTRY

    No full text
Businesses recognise the strategic significance of customer participation in value creation in an increasingly competitive market environment. However, despite growing interest in customer engagement, there is still little empirical research on the precise contributions suggested by customer experts to value creation, despite the increased interest in customer interaction. This paper aims to provide recommendations on value creation criteria, covering both financial and non-financial dimensions, based on the consensus reached through a Delphi exercise involving customer experts with in-depth knowledge of services. The Delphi practice is a methodical approach to gathering expert opinions, aiming to achieve a definitive agreement among the designated experts. Nine experts were involved in the Delphi exercise until consensus or agreement was reached in the third cycle. The results reveal that the panel members reached consensus on many new issues pertaining to both financial and non-financial aspects. The results contribute to the growing body of studies on consumer participation in value creation and organisations’ potential to enhance their relationships with customer experts. This also contributes to SDG 8 (Economic Growth and Decent Work) in boosting productivity, innovation, and employment in the service industry

Uremic Toxin p-Cresyl Sulphate Induces Osteoblast Death and Inflammation in Chronic Kidney Disease Without Affecting Bone Marker Expression

    No full text
p-Cresyl Sulphate (pCS), a protein-bound uremic toxin, accumulates in the blood of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Uremic toxins in general have emerged as a potential cause for CKD-associated bone mineral loss. Osteoblasts, specialized bone-forming cells, play an important role in bone development and remodelling. This study aimed to investigate the changes in bone markers as well as the apoptotic and inflammatory alterations in human foetal osteoblast 1.19 (hFOb 1.19) cells upon exposure to pCS. Exposure to pCS reduced osteoblast cell viability, increased the release of IL6 and IL1b while not significantly disturbing the RANKL/OPG ratio and the release of bone markers like osteocalcin and ALP. Using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, we assessed the cell viability and with the help of various ELISA kits we observed that pCS increased the expression of Caspase-8 (CASP-8), Caspase-12 (CASP-12) and BCL-2 Associated X (BAX) protein indicating cell death via induction of apoptosis in osteoblasts. pCS exposure also showed an increase of inflammatory markers like Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Interleukin-1 (IL-1 ), indicating a heightened inflammatory response in osteoblasts and a potential induction of osteoclastogenesis. These findings highlight the potential of pCS and possibly other uremic toxins to induce inflammation and bone loss in CKD patients. Future research should focus on identifying the specific molecular pathways in which pCS exerts its toxic effects so that potential therapies can be developed

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the concept of entrepreneurial learning from failure (ELF), highlighting the different perspectives and factors associated with ELF and how entrepreneurs can learn from those experiences. This study uses a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis to analyze research on ELF. Using Paul and Rosado-Serrano’s (2019) theory, characteristics, context, and methodology (TCCM) framework, the study summarizes the existing ELF literature. Therefore, this review synthesizes research on ELF theory development, context, characteristics, and methodology, aiming to assess the progression of literature development over time. Moreover, this systematic review examines the theoretical underpinnings, antecedents, and outcomes of ELF. The review synthesizes current research on this topic, identifies gaps, and proposes a future research agenda. A total of 65 peer-reviewed articles between 2000 and June 2023 were used in the analysis with VOSviewer version 1.6.20 to analyze data from the Scopus database. This study contributes to the existing literature on ELF in various ways. First, it analyzes field publication patterns by year, author, country, and institution. Second, it maps citation and co-authorship networks to find influential research and authors. Third, it maps the field’s intellectual structure by identifying prevalent themes and intellectual structures using co-occurrence and co-citation analyses, guiding academics to future study avenues and avoiding stagnation. Fourth, this study examines entrepreneurial learning from failure literature objectively and thoroughly using bibliometric analysis and systematic literature evaluation. Finally, we employed the TCCM framework to identify specific promising directions for further investigation

Negotiating Global Media in Conservative Contexts: Yaoi and Yuri Consumption Among Malaysian University Students

    No full text
This study explores the consumption of Yaoi (boys’ love) and Yuri (girls’ love) media among Malaysian university students, focusing on three objectives: identifying demographic characteristics and consumption patterns, exploring motivations for engagement, and examining reasons for discontinuation alongside socio-cultural perceptions. Based on a survey of 111 students from five Malaysian universities, the findings reveal the significant appeal of Yaoi and Yuri genres through their emotional depth, compelling storytelling, and alternative relationship narratives. Female respondents dominated the sample (84%), with a strong preference for non-explicit narratives such as Shonen-ai and Shoujo-ai, reflecting the conservative cultural context of Malaysia. Respondents highlighted motivations such as emotional engagement (54.2%), intricate storylines (52.8%), and aesthetic appeal (26.1%), while some emphasised representation (17.6%) and entertainment or escapism (9.2%). However, discontinuation was often driven by religious and moral values (61.2%) and dissatisfaction with repetitive storylines (28.6%). The findings reveal a nuanced engagement with these genres, reflecting both their appeal as platforms for identity exploration and the challenges posed by deeply ingrained cultural and religious norms. While Yaoi and Yuri media foster empathy and cultural dialogue, their broader acceptance remains constrained by societal values. The study underscores the need for culturally sensitive storytelling that aligns with local traditions and universal themes to promote inclusivity without undermining societal norms. These findings contribute to understanding the dynamics of globalised media consumption in conservative societies, offering insights into the interplay between global narratives and local cultural frameworks

Impact of Graphene/Nanocellulose on Nanocomposite Membrane for Methylene Blue Dye Removal and Antifouling Performance

    No full text
The development of membrane technologies in improving water purification systems has been extensively studied by many researchers to ensure efficient production of clean water sources. However, fouling of PVDF membrane results in low permeation and dye removal efficiency, causing a major issue in membrane production. To mitigate this issue, graphene (GR) and nanocellulose (NC) were incorporated in PVDF membrane to improve the membrane performance, as both nanoparticles have unique hydrophilicity properties and high mechanical strength. The nanocomposite membranes were fabricated via phase inversion method with PVDF as the polymer and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) as the solvent. The nanocomposite membranes were characterized by using field emission scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive x‐ray spectroscopy (FESEM‐EDX), x‐ray diffraction (XR
