Enhancing Sustainable Behavior in Waste Management: A Social Perspective
Household waste management is considered as part of the municipal waste where it contributes to a large amount to municipal solid waste (MSW). It is crucial to identify the existing waste management behavior of the household to make
adjustment and process improvement to achieve sustainable waste management. Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the behavior and factors that influence community behavior in managing household waste in rural areas particularly in Kampung Sungai Midin, Kuching, Sarawak. The study focuses on physical environment as well as social and cultural aspects. This study employed both quantitative and qualitative approach. Quantitative data were collected by using questionnaire and analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 24.0 while qualitative data were collected through face-to-face structured interviews, semi-structured interview, and observation. These interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. The survey method involved 75 respondents, selected based on convenience sampling method. The findings show that respondents’ behavior was highly
influenced by physical environment (57.6%) and moderately influenced by social and cultural aspects (42.4%). The physical features of the river as well as the condition and characteristics of some houses built on stilts along the riverbank could be seen as a means of easing the household waste. Furthermore, lack of facilities is one of the barriers that hinders them from practicing waste segregation
and recycling. Low social interaction affects the intention of community to engage in sustainable solid waste management
Advances in spin crossover metal complexes: a comprehensive review on its gas sensing applications
Spin crossover metal complexes (SCO) are unique class of coordination compounds that can switch between LS and HS (low and high spin) states in response to external stimuli like pressure, temperature, gas molecules and light irradiation. This bistable behaviour makes them excellent candidate for many technological applications like data storage, molecular switches, actuators and sensing applications. The sensing mechanism of these complexes is based on the reversible change in their spin state which results in difference in magnetic, electrical and optical responses which can be evaluated with high sensitivity. Relationship of Roof Areas and Rainwater Harvesting Tank Sizes for Squatter at Sion Village, Sarawak, Borneo Island
The rainwater harvesting system (RWHS) is widely recognized as a viable water source for drinking and non-drinking purposes, helping mitigate stormwater runoff. In 2019, an RWHS was installed in Sion village, a squatter that lacks connection to the potable water supply grid, with each household receiving a standardized tank size of 1.816 m3. However, the optimal tank size for rainwater harvesting can vary depending on roof sizes and water demands. Since the roofs in Sion village vary in size, this study aims to investigate the relationship between roof size and tank size, considering reliability percentage and installation cost. This investigation utilized the Tangki NAHRIM software and analyzed six different tank sizes: 0.682 m3, 1.136 m3, 1.589 m3, 1.816 m3, 2.270 m3, and 2.724 m3, across roof sizes of 60 m2, 85 m2, 100 m2, 160 m2, and 200 m2. The study set a benchmark for reliability between 80% and 89%. The reliability percentage gradually improves with increasing roof and tank sizes, but the installation cost increases as well. A minimum tank size of 0.682 m3 was found sufficient to achieve a reliability of 85.02% for roof size of 85 m2, 85.57% for 100 m2, 88.84% for 160 m2, and 90.07% for 200 m2. Similar reliability percentage increment trends were observed for the tank sizes of 1.136 m3, 1.589 m3, 1.816 m3, 2.270 m3, and 2.724 m3. A tank size of 1.136 m3 provides a reliability percentage of 95.50% for a roof size of 60 m2, making 1.136 m3 the minimum optimal tank size for this roof area. Results revealed that all the investigated roof sizes achieved higher reliability percentages than 85%, starting from the tank size of 1.136 m

Media sosial telah menjadi platform penting untuk generasi belia hari ini, berfungsi sebagai medium untuk penciptaan kandungan, terutamanya ekspresi emosi Sebahagian besar
kajian sedia ada memberi tumpuan kepada bentuk dan kesan ekspresi emosi, namun motif dalaman yang mencetuskan ekspresi tersebut, terutamanya dalam interaksi sosial seharian, masih belum dikaji secara mendalam. Kajian ini bertujuan mengenal pasti motif di sebalik ekspresi emosi belia di media sosial, yang masih kurang diterokai dalam penyelidikan lepas.
Antara motif yang dijangka termasuk perasaan lega selepas meluahkan emosi, sokongan sosial, keinginan untuk difahami serta pembentukan imej diri. Melalui temu bual mendalam dengan 9 orang informan, kajian kualitatif ini menyelami motivasi untuk menggunakan media sosial. Analisis tematik digunakan untuk menganalisis data penyelidikan. Penemuan Penemuan mendedahkan bahawa platform seperti Twitter, Whatsapp, dan Instagram berfungsi sebagai saluran untuk ekspresi emosi di kalangan pemberi maklumat. Mankala jenis kandungan emosi yang sering dikongsikan adalah yang berunsur marah, tidak puas hati dan sedih. Tindakan meluahkan emosi di media sosial memberikan rasa lega dan kepuasan, dengan pemberi maklumat sering mengalami katarsis emosi apabila selesai. Terutamanya, pemberi maklumat menyatakan keutamaan untuk tidak mahu namanya disiarkan, selalunya memilih untuk
mendaftarkan akaun palsu untuk melindungi identiti mereka. Tambahan pula, mereka menggunakan selektiviti dalam menentukan penonton untuk ekspresi emosi mereka. Salah satu
intervensi yang dicadangkan ialah pelaksanaan latihan literasi emosi dan digital di peringkat sekolah dan universiti, dengan tujuan memperkasakan golongan belia dengan kemahiran menyatakan emosi secara beretika dan bertanggungjawab dalam persekitaran digital. Latihan
ini boleh dilaksanakan melalui pembangunan modul literasi emosi digital yang disepadukan dalam subjek seperti Pendidikan Moral, Kesihatan Mental atau Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi (ICT). Towards Renewable Energy: Awareness and Acceptance of Mini Independent Power Producers in Kota Kinabalu Sabah
The rising energy demand has drawn significant focus towards sustainable energy sources. As Sabah, being rich in renewable energy resources, presents significant potential in this regard a survey was conducted among 264 residents of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, to assess their awareness and acceptance of renewable energy and their willingness to become mini independent power producers. The data obtained from study were analysed using SPSS 27 statistical software package. The findings reveal a high level of awareness of renewable energy among residents, alongside a strong acceptance of the concept of becoming mini-independent power producers, regardless of income groups. These results highlight a positive outlook for renewable energy adoption in Kota Kinabalu. This study offers valuable insights for policymakers to further promote and implement solar energy initiatives in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

EXPLORING TEACHERS’ EXPERIENCES IN DELIVERING SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH EDUCATION TO STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES IN SOUTHERN SARAWAK
This study investigates the experiences of teachers delivering sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education to students with intellectual disabilities in southern Sarawak, Malaysia. It explores the challenges and strategies within Malaysia's socio-cultural framework. Methods: Employing a phenomenological approach, the study conducted in-depth, semi-structured interviews with ten educators from Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Padawan, Bau, and Serian. Participants had over two years of experience in special education and SRH instruction. Giorgi’s five-step phenomenological method was used for data analysis.Results: Teachers reported significant challenges, including adapting SRH content to diverse cognitive abilities, addressing cultural and familial resistance, and navigating inadequate training and resources. Effective strategies identified included repetitive, tailored instruction, culturally sensitive framing of lessons, and embedding SRH into daily classroom interactions. Conclusions: Findings emphasize the need for culturally aligned SRH curricula that integrate life skills and support professional development for educators. These insights offer a foundation for policy enhancements, advocating for an inclusive SRH framework within Malaysia’s special education system
Pengenalan kepada Sistem Vokal Bahasa Punan
Kaum Punan merupakan etnik minoriti mendiami kawasan sungai Kemena di Bintulu dan hulu sungai Rejang di Belaga Sarawak. Berdasarkan maklumat yang direkodkan oleh Punan National Association (PNA) pada tahun 2019, terdapat 4790 populasi Punan di Sarawak. Menurut Asmah (2017) dan Ethnologue (2021), status bahasa Punan dikategorikan dalam bahasa yang terancam (threatened/unsafe). Setakat ini kajian linguistik yang mendalam terhadap bahasa Punan amat perlu dijalankan. Oleh yang demikian, kajian ini bermatlamat untuk membincangkan sistem fonem vokal bahasa Punan sebagai langkah pertama untuk melestarikan bahasa ini. Smith (2017) menyatakan bahawa fonem vokal bahasa Punan mempunyai ciri tersendiri iaitu kewujudan bunyi triftong. Justeru ciri tersebut tidak wujud dalam bahasa-bahasa Austronesia lain di Borneo. Kajian ini mengaplikasikan pendekatan linguistik deskriptif dengan penerapan fonologi fonemik dalam menganalisis bahasa tersebut. Data kajian ini diperolehi melalui kajian lapangan dengan menggunakan kaedah temuramah berdasarkan 200 daftar kata dan menggunakan kaedah asosiasi idea berdasarkan domain keluarga, tubuh badan, kata arah, flora dan fauna. Fonem vokal bahasa Punan dianalisis menggunakan perisian PRAAT bagi mendapatkan ciri bunyi yang lebih tepat. Berdasarkan hasil kajian, terdapat 7 fonem vokal, 4 diftong, 2 triftong dalam sistem bahasa Punan. Selain itu, wujud ciri supragemental fonem vokal dalam bahasa Punan iaitu nasalisasi, labialisasi dan pemanjangan vokal. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa ciri pemanjangan vokal sangat produktif dan hadir secara konsisten iaitu pada posisi suku kata akhir dan di depan bunyi nasal . Hasil kajian ini secara keseluruhannya akan memberi sumbangan empirikal dari segi data leksikostatik dalam kajian bahasa sukuan di Sarawak
Functionalized TiO2‑waste‑derived photocatalytic materials for emerging pollutant degradation : synthesis and optimization
Developing an effective, reusable photocatalyst that combines high photocatalytic efficiency with easy separation could significantly enhance the removal of organic pollutants. This study developed reusable photocatalysts by integrating TiO₂ with biomass-derived activated carbon (AC) and magnetite (Fe3O4) to enhance the removal of methylene blue (MB), acetaminophen (ACT), and their mixtures. Advanced microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, including FE-SEM, EDX, TEM, FTIR, XRD, and
BET, were applied to identify the physicochemical
properties of the composites. Both TiO2/AC-10%(436 m2/
g) and TiO2/AC/Fe3O4 (494 m2/g) exhibited high surface areas, suggesting a significant abundance of active sites for pollutant degradation. Optimization of operational parameters, including pollutant concentration, irradiation time, and composite dosage, was conducted via response surface methodology (RSM) with a Box-Behnken design (BBD), using TiO2/ AC-10%. Under optimized conditions, MB and ACT removal reached 98.37% and 87.28%, respectively within 120 min. The TiO2/AC/Fe3O4 composite maintained high efficiency over five reuse cycles. These waste-derived, magnetically separable photocatalysts offer a sustainable, efficient solution for organic pollutant removal in wastewater treatment
