    Sustainable Development of Seawater Prawn Farming Associated with Animal Biotechnology

    Aquaculture is the breeding, raising, and harvesting of water living organisms. The aquaculture industry plays a vital role in providing sufficient aquatic food for the world’s growing population in a sustainable way. Besides, this industry also contributed to improving the rights and income of communities, which helps to achieve equitable livelihoods. Moreover, the perfect aquatic food system will also be resilient to human and environmental shocks, including climatic changes (FAO, 2022). In Malaysia, the aquaculture industry has contributed 8.9% to the total national agricultural gross domestic product (GDP) and created 1.75 million (estimated) jobs for Malaysians (Fathi et al. 2018). Within the aquaculture industry, prawn farming has made Malaysia the 9th largest prawn exporter globally. Prawn farming practices in Malaysia were introduced in the 1970s to meet the rising prawn demand-supply, and today it has become one of the major contributors to Malaysia’s GDP

    The goat industry holds significant importance in Malaysia’s agro-food subsector as it provides essential nutrition to humans through meat and milk supplies. The population of goats in Malaysia are reported to be at around 572,000 animals, capable to supply up to 4,600 metric tons (MT) of mutton per year (Figure 7.1). However, the annual consumption of mutton in Malaysia is as high as 40,488 MT annually with an average per capita consumption of around 500 g over the past five years. It is obvious that the national production of mutton is unable to cope with the local demand. Consequently, Malaysia needs to import around 51,150 goats and 34,984 MT of mutton from other countries including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India to meet the demand (DVS, 2019)

    Species Identification of Rickettsia in Blood of a Confirmed Human Case of Rickettsial Disease and Their Presence in Urban Rodents at Kota Samarahan and Kuching, Sarawak.

    Rickettsial diseases are emerging zoonoses with significant public health implications, especially in urban areas where human-rodent interactions are frequent. Urban rodents are known reservoirs of zoonotic pathogens, and their role in the transmission of Rickettsia species in Malaysia remains neglected. This study investigates its presence in Sarawak, a region with limited data on Rickettsial infections and their zoonotic transmission dynamics. Therefore, to assess these potential zoonotic links, the objectives of this study are first to identify the Rickettsia species from a case report on a human host diagnosed with Rickettsial disease in Kuching, Sarawak, and secondly to determine the presence of Rickettsia species in urban rodents at Kota Samarahan and Kuching, Sarawak. Using PCR amplification targeting the gltA, ompA, and ompB genes, the patient’s blood sample was identified as closely related to Rickettsia typhi with high sequence similarities (97.64%, 98.71%, and 97.55%, respectively). Similarly, among the 206 rodents captured, 191 were examined, and R. typhi was detected in 1.57% of the samples, predominantly in Rattus tanezumi. In addition, R. felis was also identified, yielding an overall Rickettsia prevalence of 4.18%. Notably, urban hotspots such as Samariang Market exhibited higher infection rates, highlighting the zoonotic risk in areas with dense rodent-human interactions. The findings highlight the role of rodents as reservoirs and ectoparasites as potential vectors, demonstrating the importance of rodent control and surveillance in urban ecosystems. This research provides the latest evidence of R. typhi in Sarawak, emphasising the need for integrated management strategies and further studies to elucidate the dynamics of Rickettsial transmission in the region

    Development of molecularly imprinted polymers for the removal of levofloxacin

    The extensive use of antibiotics and their persistence in the environment make them emerging pollutants of global concern, posing serious risks to ecosystems and public health. Among them, the broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic levofloxacin (LEV) is widely prescribed for bacterial infections and has frequently been detected in freshwater systems and environmental matrices. Its presence is linked to the development of antibiotic resistance and ecological toxicity, underscoring the urgent need for efficient removal strategies. In this study, levofloxacinimprinted polymers (LEV-MIPs) were developed using a precipitation polymerisation method. A set of nine LEVMIPs was synthesised using three solvent combinations: ethanol: acetonitrile, ethanol: dimethyl sulfoxide, and ethanol: carbon tetrachloride. Methacrylic acid (MAA) served as the functional monomer (1–3 mmol), ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the cross-linker (16 mmol), and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator (0.1 mmol). Among them, two formulations (LEV3-MIP and LEV6-MIP) demonstrated superior removal efficiency. Structural and thermal characterisation by FTIR, SEM/EDX, and TGA confirmed successful polymer synthesis, with surface analysis revealing spherical, monodispersed particles of ~1.5 μm. Batch adsorption assays showed removal efficiencies of 97.85% (LEV3-MIP) and 99.15% (LEV6-MIP) under optimised conditions (15 ppm initial concentration, 0.3 mg dosage, pH 7, and 90 min and 60 min contact time, respectively). Both polymers exhibited high imprinting factors (3.081 and 3.359) and excellent reusability, with minimal efficiency loss of only 2.7% and 2.09% after ten adsorption–desorption cycles.     The Influence of Emotional Intelligence Towards Job Performance in Sarawak Government-Linked Companies in the Digital Sector: The Moderating Role of Leader-Member Exchange

    This research examines the influence of emotional intelligence (EI) on job performance in Sarawak's Government-linked Companies (GLCs), with a specific focus on SAINS and SDEC. It also studies the moderating effect of Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) on this relationship. This research utilizes Social Exchange Theory and Role Theory as theoretical frameworks and adopts a quantitative methodology with a sample size of 200 participants which consist of managers, mid-level managers and executives. The data were thoroughly analyzed using SPSS and Partial Least Squares (PLS) to test the stated hypotheses. The study seeks to fill important voids in the current body of research by investigating the impact of Emotional Intelligence (EI) components, including self-awareness, social awareness, selfmanagement, and relationship management, on job performance. Moreover, it explores the role of Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) in influencing the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and job performance, offering a detailed comprehension of the interaction between leaders and subordinates in improving work results. The results are anticipated to provide useful insights into the utilisation of emotional intelligence to enhance job performance, specifically within the unique cultural and organizational contexts of SAINS and SDEC. This research not only enhances the academic discussion on emotional intelligence and leadership but also offers practical insights for building effective policies and management methods to improve job performance in Sarawak's Government-Linked Companies (GLCs).     The EarthSOS: Our Planet, Our Future volunteer program fosters meaningful and educational engagement between Year 4 students of under the course PBK4204 Campaign and Event Management, Strategic Communication Program, Faculty of Education, Language and Communication, and students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Rakyat, Jalan Haji Bolhassan, Kuching, Sarawak. This project centered around the theme of climate crisis awareness and the program creates a collaborative platform for knowledge exchange and friendly interaction. Through a series of interactive and themed activities, the initiative aims to raise environmental consciousness among primary school students while allowing university participants to apply communication strategies in a real-world context. The program not only nurtures environmental stewardship among young learners but also enhances the civic responsibility and communication skills of the participating undergraduates.     Creating inclusive campuses: Exploring the challenges of higher education students with disabilities in Malaysia

    Creating inclusive campuses is essential for ensuring that Students with Disabilities (SWD) can fully participate in higher education. While previous research has focused on well-established Malaysian universities, there is a critical gap in understanding the unique challenges faced by students with disabilities in newer institutions with limited resources and a developing support system. This study explores the challenges SWD encounter in achieving both academic success and social integration. Twelve university students with various disabilities, recruited from three Malaysian public universities established less than 50 years ago, participated in semi-structured interviews, highlighting areas needing urgent improvement. Using thematic analysis, four primary themes were identified: (1) academic challenges, (2) inadequate services and facilities, (3) mobility difficulties, and (4) social relationship problems. SWD struggle with the pace of instruction, managing their time, and accessing learning materials; experience challenges worsened by inadequate facilities, face reduced independence and participation due to mobility barriers; and experience social exclusion and stigma. These findings emphasise the systemic barriers that continue to hinder inclusivity and underscore the critical need for universities to adopt comprehensive strategies that provide SWD with effective support for academic achievement, well-being, and meaningful participation in campus life

    This article analyses the electoral cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) after the 15th General Election (PRU15), focussing on state elections and byelections.This study uses a qualitative approach and is analysed based on the theory of political consensus (Lijphart, 1969) and political realism (Morgenthau, 1948) to understand the dynamics and effectiveness of this cooperation.The study findings indicate that the PH-BN cooperation is more tactical in nature and does not reflect a deep form of consensus.DAP maintains strong support while UMNO experiences a decline, particularly in majority Malay areas.This cooperation also does not involve all BN component parties, as UMNO is the only BN component party that benefits from this cooperation.However, this cooperation plays an important role in ensuring short-term stability and providing competition to Perikatan Nasional.This study contributes to the academic discourse on the evolution of coalition politics in the increasingly complex Malaysian political landscape

    EXPLORING IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA: THE IMPACT ON SELF-PERCEPTION, BODY IMAGE AND SOCIAL COMPARISON IN GENERATION Z

    The rapid evolution of social media platforms such as TikTok has significantly reshaped the identity development process among Generation Z. This study explores how engagement with social media influences three key psychological constructs which are self-perception, body image, and social comparison, where it is vital to the formation of personal identity. As digital natives, Generation Z is constantly exposed to curated content, trends, and visual representations that may affect how they view themselves and others. This quantitative study employed a survey design using validated instruments adapted to reflect the influence of social media content, particularly short-form videos. A total of 168 participants aged 17 to 28 completed a questionnaire divided into five sections: demographic information, self-perception, body image, social comparison, and identity development. Data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings revealed that both body image and self-perception significantly and positively influenced identity development, with body image demonstrating the strongest effect, followed by self-perception. However, social comparison did not have a significant impact on identity development. These results suggest that visual and internalized self-appraisals are more influential than social comparison in shaping identity among generation Z

    Terminologia Anatomica (TA2), Terminologia Neuroanatomica (TNA) and Terminologia Oroanatomica

    nternational Federation of Anatomical Associations (IFAA) executive committee authorized the translation, adaptation and publication of the Anatomical Terminology (TA2) [followed the official list of 7,113 Latin terms by FIPAT], and Neuroanatomical Terminology (TNA) [followed the official list of 4,399 Latin terms by FIPAT] at the initiative of the President of Russian Anatomical Society (SMSAHE) Prof. Dr. Dmitriy B. Nikityuk, and Vice-President of SMSAHE, Prof. Dr. Sergei S. Dydykin. Oroanatomical Terminology (TOA) was also issued with Russian equivalents and proved to be the 1st edition of the TOA in the world. It includes 2,294 terms related to the head and neck. The Russian anatomical terminologies are not a simple translation of Latin terms, but a historically established system of terms that reflects the contribution of Russian scientists to anatomy. Due to the widespread use of anatomical terminology in the international scientific literature, TA2, TNA and аlso TOA were published in four languages: Latin, Russian and English (UK [Great Britain] and US [United States]). While original version of terminologies includes 7 columns [the first column - the serial number of the term to which all footnotes are referred; six columns {2–7} contain the official Latin term {2}, Latin synonyms {3}, English terms (UK {4} and US {5} and English synonyms (if necessary) {6}. The last column includes related terms, eponyms, and links to endnotes {7}]. In the Russian version another 3 columns are added: {8} - Russian equivalent, {9} - Russian synonym, {10} – Russian eponym. Footnotes are placed in a separate section at the end of each chapter. Terms indicating the location of body parts and organs were described in relation to the anatomical position. Each organ was generally designated by one term, except in cases where a variant of the main term was used to form clinical terms
