    Get PDF
This paper describes the human intervention to increase flood resilience in a housing estate. Stormwater storage facility is a structure designed to temporarily hold water, in which such a structure was tried for underneath the car porch and front road of a terrace house. A design rainfall of 5-minute, 10-year average recurrent interval intensity was selected for urban runoff analyses. A row of 12 terrace houses with a land area 2,472 m2 was selected as the study area. An intervention was formulated, in which it consisted of the car porches embedded with a series of underground water storage facilities having 46.9 m3 of effective storage volume and receiving water from 820 m2 of catchment area; combined with the front road embedded with a series of underground water storage facilities having 55.2 m3 of effective storage volume and receiving water from 278 m2 of catchment area. The characteristics of the intervention in the study area were represented through Storm Water Management Model version 5.0 to simulate the urban runoff in pre-development and post-development conditions, as well as the intended intervention. The results showed that the intervention had reduced 54% of peak flow compared with post-development condition. The intervention also achieved flow nearest to the pre-development condition. No overflowing was predicted in the drainage system

    Get PDF
Technological advancements have popularized "gamification" in recent years, yet few studies have explored its connection to the technology acceptance model (TAM). This paper aims to enhance understanding of the relationship between gamification and TAM by systematically reviewing current research trends. Employing a systematic literature review (SLR) method, we analyzed 72 papers identified via Scopus, focusing on 13 journal papers published between 2016 and 2020 that met our criteria for in-depth analysis. Our findings indicate a significant rise in research on gamification and TAM, with nearly half of the studies (49%) incorporating new external variables into the original TAM framework. The study identifies three key themes for future research. By providing a comprehensive review, this study contributes new knowledge and offers a critical summary for further investigation into the integration of gamification with TAM, highlighting potential avenues for future research and practical application

Playful Work Design (PWD) and Flow: A Critical Review of Theory, Research Gaps, and Future Directions

    Get PDF
This review investigates the role of Playful Work Design (PWD) and flow in shaping employee engagement, with the aim of providing organizations with insights into how these elements can enhance creativity, productivity, and quality of life. Despite growing interest in employee well-being, there is a lack of integrated studies examining the joint effects of PWD and flow. This study addresses this gap by synthesizing empirical and theoretical literatures from 2010 to 2023, highlighting how the incorporation of play into work can improve motivation, job satisfaction, and organizational performance. Flow, a psychological state of heightened attention, is shown to further enhance productivity and innovation. The review identifies research gaps and suggests future directions, particularly focusing on integrating older adult performance with flow. The discussion emphasizes how employees can use these insights to boost creativity, prevent burnout, improve collaboration, and drive innovation. Practical guidelines are also provided for industry practitioners to implement PWD, supporting longterm employee engagement and fostering high-performance work environments

    The paradoxes of heritage participation

    No full text
Conceptualising and theorising heritage participation is an uneasy quest, with ongoing debates over what constitutes genuine participation. Debates often highlight the expectations placed upon it – expectations that, as I argue in this paper, are accompanied by conceptual paradoxes. First, the paradox of participatory parity. According to Nancy Fraser, economic maldistribution, cultural misrecognition and political marginalisation are primary barriers to achieving equal participation. Paradoxically, participation is often proposed as a solution to eliminate these barriers. Second, the paradox of inclusion. Although heritage participation can serve both inclusion and exclusion purposes, heritage is inherently exclusive, as it often reflects values specific to certain groups. Third, the paradox of multivocality. If multivocality is to prioritise marginalised voices and challenge dominant discourses, distinguishing between them proves challenging. Moreover, entrenched dominant discourses may lead marginalised individuals to doubt their own judgement rather than challenging the power structures behind them. Fourth, the paradox of balancing citizen power and government control. Theoretically, participation is intended to empower citizens to counterbalance government control; however, it has increasingly become part of governmentality itself. Highlighting the paradoxes of participation is not intended to dismiss this concept entirely. Instead, this approach serves to caution against the idealisation of participation

    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic education supervision in improving the quality of education in Islamic-based institutions. The method used in this study is qualitative research, which explores data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The location of the study was carried out at the Modern Pondok Ar-Rifa'ie, which aims to explore the dynamics of Islamic education. The results of the study indicate that Islamic education supervision can significantly improve student learning outcomes, teacher effectiveness, and better communication between educators, students, and families. In addition, good supervision also contributes to the development of students' morals and spirituality, which are important aspects of Islamic education. This study found that the application of principles such as justice, wisdom, and exemplary behaviour in supervision can create a harmonious and productive educational atmosphere. However, Islamic education supervision also faces a number of challenges, such as lack of supervisor competence, inadequate facilities, resistance from educators, and frequent policy changes. Therefore, to overcome these challenges, continuous training for supervisors, the development of relevant curricula, and the integration of Islamic values into modern educational practices are needed. The conclusion of this study confirms that increasing the effectiveness of Islamic education supervision is an urgent need to support the progress of Islamic education in this modern er

Objective Group Motivational Interviewing may raise awareness of mobile gaming addiction. MI has reported reduction of gaming addiction in adolescents, although its effectiveness among medical students remains underexplored. This study assessed the effectiveness of group MI in raising awareness of mobile gaming addiction among medical students. Results Significant progression in Stages of Change at pre- to post-intervention (χ² = 41.891, p < 0.001; Cramer’s V = 0.555) and from post- to two-months post-intervention (χ² = 87.083, p-value < 0.001; Carmer’s V = 0.800). IAIM scores improved over time (χ² = 9.349, p = 0.009), with the highest improvement at two-months. A moderate positive correlation (ρ = 0.517, n = 34, p < 0.002) was found between self-reported and mobile game usage at two-months. This pilot study provides early evidence that GMI may enhance motivation to reduce mobile gaming and support progression through stages of change. Future studies could employ larger randomized controlled trials (RCT) with longer follow-up periods. Trial registratio

Corporate Sustainability Orientation, Enforcement of Regulatory Policy and Strategic Leadership for Sustainability Practices Among Food Manufacturing Companies in Sarawak

    Get PDF
food manufacturing industry in Sarawak faces sustainability challenges due to inconsistencies in Corporate Sustainability Orientation (CSO) and varying levels of Enforcement of Regulatory Policy (ERP). While Sustainability Practices (SP) are essential for long-term resilience, adoption remains uneven. This study examines the direct impact of CSO on SP, the mediating role of ERP, and the moderating effect of Strategic Leadership (SL). A quantitative survey of 69 food manufacturing firms was analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings confirm that CSO significantly influences SP, with ERP as a strong mediator. However, SL does not significantly moderate the CSO-ERP relationship, indicating regulatory enforcement plays a stronger role than leadership influence. These results align with Institutional Theory, emphasizing coercive regulatory pressures in driving sustainability practices. This study highlights the need for stronger regulatory oversight, digital compliance monitoring, and targeted incentives for SMEs. While SL does not moderate regulatory enforcement, corporate leaders should integrate sustainability into governance and performance metrics. Aligning sustainability initiatives with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) is crucial for long-term sustainability. Future research should explore broader industry contexts to strengthen sustainability governance.
