Explainable Evidence-Based Veracity Assessment of Textual Claim
The rise of social media and the internet has significantly
increased the amount and speed of shared information, posing
challenges for verifying content. Automated veracity checking has become essential in quickly and accurately evaluating claims due to the overwhelming volume of data. The reliability of these systems depends on their ability to access and evaluate substantial evidence, which is
crucial for authenticating assertions and preventing the spread of misinformation. This study proposes a new method that integrates rationales from evidentiary texts to address the issue of insufficient evidence in automated veracity checking. By using contextual coherence and relevance as metrics when direct evidence is limited, our technique aims to assess evidence sufficiency comprehensively.
Furthermore, it goes beyond identifying evidence sufficiency by examining supporting or refuting rationales, enhancing our understanding of claim veracity. Our research introduces a preservation technique focused on maintaining contextual consistency and logical validity to overcome limitations in existing veracity-checking systems. This approach prioritizes alignment between claims and their evidence,
effectively addressing issues related to evidence insufficiency by capturing subtle semantic connections while assessing contextually implied meanings often overlooked in traditional methods of evidence evaluation
Designing for Cognitive Fit: Turning Creative Workshops into Loyalty Engines in Cultural Industries
Creative tourism is now central to many cultural economies, yet providers still struggle to convert on site delight into repeat behaviour and advocacy. Experience quality is the leading explanation for behavioural intention, but reported effects vary considerably across settings and studies (Cole, 2004; Cole & Illum, 2006; Chen & Chen, 2010; Kim, 2018). This variability suggests boundary conditions that matter for small cultural producers. We treat the issue as a
thinking skills problem. Openness to Experience captures curiosity, imaginative play and aesthetic engagement and is closely tied to higher order cognition and creative achievement (Kaufman, 2013; Abu Raya et al., 2023). In hands on workshops rich in novelty and autonomy, trait activation theory predicts that Openness will shape the cognitive operations that turn sensory input into evaluative judgements and future support (Tett & Burnett, 2003). Tour guide studies further show that social affective cues such as humour can help visitors lower in Openness convert appraisal into intention (Prayag, Hosany, & Odeh, 2013; Tu, Guo, Xiao, & Yan, 2020). We therefore ask: How does Openness to Experience shape the direct and affect mediated effects of experience quality on behavioural intention in creative tourism. The work sits within cultural industries by showing how trait informed design can lift loyalty and ancillary spend without new infrastructure
Optimizing Leukemia Classification with Fine-Tuned SENet Variants: A Comparative Study on Binary and Multi-Class Tasks
Leukemia, a blood cancer diagnosed primarily
through microscopic examination of blood smears, poses
challenges due to the cost, time, and labor-intensive nature of
the process. This paper proposes an automated deep learningbased approach for leukemia classification, addressing two
tasks: (i) binary classification between acute lymphocytic
leukemia (ALL) and healthy cells (HTL), and (ii) five-class
classification involving ALL, acute myelogenous leukemia
(AML), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), chronic
myelogenous leukemia (CML), and HTL. Microscopic images
were obtained from the ALL Image Database (ALL-IDB1) and
the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Image Bank.
Transfer learning was applied using three state-of-the-art
models: Inception-V3, ResNeXt, and SENet. Results
demonstrate that SENet consistently outperforms the other
models. To further enhance performance, three SENet variants
were developed by integrating support vector machine (SVM)
classifiers, additional hidden layers with diverse feature vectors,
and dropout regularization. The best-performing variant
(SENet-D), combining feature selection with dropout
regularization, achieved testing accuracies of 99.84% for binary
classification and 84.48% for five-class classification,
establishing its robustness and effectiveness for automated
leukemia detection
THE IMPACT OF ANGKLUNG ART-BASED INTERVENTION ON THE HEALTH OF SENIOR CITIZENS IN MALAYSIA
This study explores the therapeutic potential of angklung a traditional bamboo musical instrument as an art-based intervention to enhance the well-being of senior citizens in Malaysia. Despite angklung being commonly played for recreational purposes in group settings, its specific health applications remain underexamined. Thus, this study aims to identify the benefits of angklung as an art-based activity for the elderly and to analyse its impact on their physical, psychological, cognitive, and social well-being. This study employed the qualitative descriptive method, and data were collected through literature review and semi-structured interviews. Participants included angklung experts, medical professionals, caregivers and elderly residents from two care centres in Penang. The Angklung Healing Art Project was used as the primary intervention. The collected data were then analysed thematically using the WHOQOL framework, and purposive sampling was employed to ensure sampling diversity. The findings revealed that angklung activities helped improve the participants’ physical and psychological health, independence, social interactions and their overall engagement in daily life. The elderly participants expressed enjoyment, increased motivation, and a sense of accomplishment after being involved in the sessions. Some also reported reduced anxiety and improved memory recall following the intervention. In this light, despite cognitive limitations faced by some of the participants, most were able to participate meaningfully, demonstrating the angklung's accessibility. The melodic and calming tones of the angklung, along with its lightweight and easy-to-play design, make it a suitable tool for therapeutic and recreational purposes in aged care environments. This study has highlighted the importance of incorporating culturally relevant, low-barrier, and enjoyable musical activities into elderly care programs. It also recommends the development of assistive tools to support angklung use among older adults with physical or cognitive limitations
THE ROLE OF LIBRARIANS AND COUNSELORS IN BIBLIOTHERAPY TO PROMOTE MENTAL HEALTH
This paper examines how bibliotherapy can support the mental well-being of the University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) community. During our time at UNIMAS, we observed the positive relationships and collaborations between the university librarians and UNIMAS counsellors and this made us appreciate the supportive services and teams available at the university. In addition to examining its supportive function, this paper also considers the various roles that bibliotherapy can play within the university context. The paper examines how bibliotherapeutic resources are selected and evaluated from the collection of PerpustakaanTun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub (PeTARY) and how these resources, grounded in established bibliotherapy principles, can support the mental health of the university community and the emerging role of librarians in the profession. In this paper, we attempt to identify bibliotherapy resources that have the potential to produce positive beneficial outcomes for the UNIMAS community, construct a set of conceptual criteria for bibliotherapeutic texts selection, and investigate the correlation between library collections, user interaction, user participation, and the extent to which these selections have a meaningful impact. This paper also examines the influence of bibliotherapy on collection development and user engagement and identifies its potential of bibliotherapy to promote the professional development of librarians. The paper further evaluates how AI-enabled tools may enhance library services and improve user satisfaction. This paper demonstrates the impact of bibliotherapy on mental well-being to promote a resilient community and demonstrates the benefits of mixedmethods research

Waste biomass pellets for green energy production - A sustainable alternative for energy security
Energy security remains a pressing global challenge, necessitating a transition toward sustainable renewable
energy solutions. Waste biomass pellets represent a promising alternative, offering opportunities for energy
diversification, carbon-neutral energy generation, and environmental sustainability. This review critically examines the production, utilization, and integration of waste biomass pellets, highlighting technological advances,
process parameters, and energy conversion strategies. Key factors, including biomass feedstock type, moisture
content, drying, and pelletizing conditions, strongly affect pellet quality, energy density, and storage performance. Thermochemical conversion technologies, such as co-firing, gasification, and pyrolysis, are evaluated for their efficiency, environmental impact, and operational challenges. Despite the benefits, barriers such as feedstock variability, supply chain logistics, and policy gaps hinder widespread adoption. Life cycle assessment and economic analyses indicate that biomass pellets can reduce greenhouse gas emissions at lower costs compared to conventional energy sources. The review identifies knowledge gaps, emphasizes the need for integrated technological, policy, and market strategies, and outlines future research directions to optimize biomass pellet production, enhance energy security, and support sustainable renewable energy transitions globally
