Sustainable Weed Control in Immature Oil Palm: Assessing Herbicide Performance and Economic Benefits
Effective weed management is crucial for optimizing oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) yield and reducing operational costs. This study evaluated the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of seven different herbicide active ingredients (a.i.), namely indaziflam (45.5%), glufosinate ammonium (24.5%), glufosinate ammonium (13.5%), MSMA (39.5%) + diuron (7.8%), MSMA (47%), glyphosate potassium (48.7%), glyphosate dimethylammonium (52%), and 2-sodium amine as a reductant adjuvant.
A total of 16 treatments were applied for general weed control via circle spraying on one-year-old immature oil palm at PR20, Ladang FGVAS PPPTR, Jerantut, Pahang. The results demonstrated that pre-emergence application of indaziflam (45.5%) combined with MSMA (39.5%) + diuron (7.8%) provided prolonged weed suppression and delayed weed regeneration for up to 180 days. This combination was particularly effective against both broadleaf and grassy weed species commonly found in immature oil palm areas.
Additionally, all six post-emergence herbicides showed comparable weed control even at a 50% reduced application rate when combined with 2-sodium amine as a herbicide reductant. This synergistic effect suggests the potential of adjuvant-enhanced herbicide systems to reduce active ingredient load without compromising efficacy. No phytotoxicity symptoms were observed on immature oil palm.
From a cost-efficiency perspective, the use of pre-emergence herbicides extended the weed regeneration period, thus reducing the herbicide application round in immature oil palm from 12 rounds per year to 4 rounds per year, resulting in significant cost savings. These findings highlight the importance of herbicide selection and formulation in determining both agronomic and economic outcomes. Continuous herbicide screening in immature oil palm supports integrated weed management strategies aimed at enhancing cost-effectiveness and sustainability by reducing application frequency and minimizing environmental impact
Understanding Generation Z Across Cultures for HR Practice: Insights from Malaysia, Asia, and the West
Generation Z, individuals born from the mid-1990s to the early 2010s, has drawn attention to social, cultural, and employment issues. This paper aims to understand the similarities and differences of Generation Z (Gen Z) across three cultural contexts: Malaysia, broader Asian,
and Western countries, specifically in terms of digital adoption, cultural dimension, career aspirations, and work values. While global trend connects Gen Z across regions, particularly in the digital era and work-life balance, unique cultural influences shape different views on
authority and spirituality. This study employs a comparative literature review to incorporate current research, highlighting both common generational characteristics and context-specific values. The key themes emphasize the complex connection between global connectivity and
local culture in influencing Gen Z’s perspective, rather than including political context or consumer behaviour, except where they spill over into employment, for example,
sustainability linked to employer choice. By understanding the similarities and differences of Gen Z of various countries, the HR practitioners and policy makers are able to comprehend the value differences and cultural orientation of Gen Z in order to minimize intergenerational conflicts. Additionally, it offers nuanced insights and strategic lessons for effectively engaging and retaining this generation in diverse workplace environments
DIVIDEND POLICY ON FIRM PERFORMANCE: EVIDENCE FROM THE COMPANIES LISTED ON FTSE BURSA MALAYSIA TOP 100 INDEX
This research examines the impact of dividend policy on firm performance of the companies on the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Top 100 Index. It explores the relationship between key dividend policy indicators such as dividend payout ratio (DPR), dividend yield (DY), and dividend per share (DPS)
and firm performance measures, including return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). The study employs a quantitative approach, analyzing secondary data from financial reports of the companies on FTSE Bursa Malaysia Top 100 Index from 2020 to 2024. Statistical methods,
including multiple regression analysis, are used to identify trends and relationships. The findings highlight the dual role of dividend policy in influencing profitability. The study also identifies significant implications for financial managers, policymakers, and investors, offering insights into strategic decision-making for corporate growth and financial stability. With a sample of 72 companies on the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Top 100 Index that consistently pay dividends, these empirical results show that DPR is significantly negatively associated with firm performance.
However, DY and DPS are significantly positively associated with firm performance. Overall, the study’s findings indicate that dividend policy significantly affects firm performance, suggesting that inconsistent or insufficient dividend payments can reduce firm value and weaken investor
confidence, especially during volatile or post-crisis periods

The Impact of Intellectual Humility on Entrepreneurial Learning from Failure towards Re-Entry Intention: The Moderating Role of Resilience
The study examined how intellectual humility improves entrepreneurial learning from failure and how this process of learning may lead to the subsequent intention of returning to the entrepreneurship. The study also examined the moderating role of resilience in the relationship between entrepreneurial learning from failure and re-entry intention to provide a closer comprehension of psychological processes stimulating post failure recovery and entrepreneurial persistence. Intellectual humility, enable learning from failure and how resilience affects the attribute of learning translation to re-entry intention. The study employed a quantitative research design and the data were collected from 325 entrepreneurs with venture failure experience in Pakistan using purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using (PLS-SEM) to test the proposed relationships and moderation effect. The findings indicate that intellectual humility plays an important role in improving entrepreneurial learning from failure, which drives re-entry intention. In addition, the resilience moderates the relationship between learning from failure and re-entry intention whereby the relationship is stronger in entrepreneurs with high levels of resilience. This proves that cognitive openness and emotional strength are needed to turn this failure into re-entry in the future. The results imply the need to encourage entrepreneurs, educators, policymakers and incubators to help aspiring entrepreneurs develop intellectual humility and resilience to support in failure recovery, learning ability, and motivation of self-re-entry. The training programs should incorporate reflective practices and coping with emotions as well as a system of learning oriented feedback. The study provides a new approach since it combined intellectual humility and resilience into the post failure learning process of entrepreneurship. Intellectual humility allows entrepreneurs to leverage failures into great learning opportunities and eventually lead to their overall success and resilience within the highly changing entrepreneurial landscape
