Second heart attack prediction using machine learning and deep learning

    No full text
Deep Learning and Machine Learning is the fastest growing technology that has a wide range of applications, one of which is the medical field. The cardiac attack has become a global alarming issue, that is leading to 17.9 million deaths worldwide every year. There is a necessity of predicting the cardiac attack at the earlier phase to avoid further growth in the death rate due to cardiac attacks. There are many techniques proposed so far in prediction of the heart stroke. Yet, many deaths take place every year globally. The major contribution of this research work is to find the best approach, that can give better accuracy to predict the cardiac attack. In this research work, we used both machine learning and the deep learning approach, to predict heart stroke with the best accuracy. This research work is conducted on different machine learning models such as, the support vector machine, the decision tree algorithm, the random forest algorithm, and the logistic regression, the study also includes the implementation of the dense artificial neural network to find an appropriate model that can predict the heart stroke with the best accuracy. In this research work, the deep learning approach gave 93.80 percent accuracy. The accuracy acquired by the machine learning models posed a problem with low accuracy, the accuracy can be improved in future by working with the hyperparameters. The results ac-quired by each model are presented in this study

Comparative analysis of corporate governance strategy impact on workforce satisfaction: traditional V/S tech sector industries

    No full text
In 1992 The Cadbury Committee described corporate governance as: "the system by which companies are directed and controlled." Since then, various theories have been proposed to determine the best corporate governance practice. The two most used approaches are the shareholder and the stakeholder strategies. Milton Friedman was the first to theorize the shareholder approach of corporate governance. For him, the sole responsibility of business is to increase profits for stockholders. This idea is based on the fact that managers are hired as the agent of shareholders to run the company for investors benefit. Thus, they are morally & legally compelled to serve their interests. The shareholder theory is now considered as traditional approach of doing business with companies. However, this approach has clear disadvantages, indeed concentrating solely on the interests of shareholders is creating several problems. The focus on short term strategy and higher risk-taking are just two of the inherent dangers involved by this strategy. As an example, we could quote Enron and Worldcom cases, where continuous pressure on managers to increase returns to shareholders led them to manipulate the company accounts. Edward Freeman has first theorized the stakeholder theory, this theory tried to identify the responsibilities of corporations in today's' world, whether they be economic, legal, ethical, or even philanthropic. Indeed, the stakeholder theory states that a company has a responsibility not only toward stockholders but to a broader group of stakeholders, including workforce, customers, suppliers, creditors, and even community and competitors. Nowadays, some of the world's largest Tech corporations claim to implement the stakeholder approach to build their corporate governance strategy. This paper will try to determine which of these two corporate governance strategies is creating the highest Workforce satisfaction. In order to achieve this goal, a comparative approach will be used in this research. This approach will compare the Tech sector (who is known to apply a Stakeholder corporate governance) to a company in a more traditional sector, in our case, the Financial sector (who is known to apply a Shareholder corporate governance)

Empathy in infancy: Factors affecting empathy in pre-school children

    No full text
This experiment examined the association between empathy and pre-school children. The aim of this study was to highlight the child factors of age, gender, sibling status and educator perceptions with regards to emotional understanding. This quantitative study was conducted using The Empathy Scale for Children (ESC) and the Empathy Questionnaire for Teachers (EmQue) in order to collect the data from 40 pre-school children (Male = 21, Female = 19). A Mann-Whitney U test as well as a Spearman’s Rho Correlation were performed for analysis. Results showed no significant relationships with regards to age, gender, or educator perspectives within this research. There were slight correlations with regards to age and gender indicating that three-year-olds and males were more negatively skewed than four-year-olds and females, but statistically they were not significant. The lack of correlation within this study suggests that empathic development is more complex and should incorporate further developmental aspects

The aim of this research is to contribute knowledge to a scarce number of studies on negative effects (NE) in psychotherapy in order to increase awareness of both clinicians and patients along with effectiveness and safety of therapeutic approaches. Ninety-two participants took part in the study by non-random selection. Participants formed a purposive sample and an additional expert sample consisting of people with experience of both psychotherapy and NE. The design is mixed methods including between-groups comparisons using statistical tools of descriptive, non-parametric and regression testing plus short semi-structured interview. Two main measurements on NE and alliance were used: Negative Effects Questionnaire (NEQ) and Agnew Relationship Measure – 5 (ARM-5) by online survey. The results demonstrated that humanistic therapy shows significantly lower level of NE to psychoanalysis which led to the rejection of hypothesis. This is partly consistent with the body of research. CBT almost achieved significance to humanistic, however more research is needed. The childhood-past focus, number of sessions and gender of therapist showed no significant contribution to the development of NE, thus the hypotheses related were accepted. The result did not match the previous studies on those components. The next accepted hypothesis related to therapeutic alliance where the result demonstrated that negative effects decrease when alliance increases confirming a body of research indicating an importance of therapeutic relationship in psychological treatments. The qualitative results pointed to the need of formal explanation of NE to the patients and applying risk prevention plan at the beginning of treatment

Performance management system has been influential as a method that would help improve individual and organizational efficiency. This demonstrated the need to undertake this research with a case study approach in titled challenges faced and the best practices in performance management system implementation in the Indian manufacturing sector. The main goals of this research are to explain the nature of PMS, to examine the methods used in PMS, to recognize the challenges faced by managers and to discuss best practices in PMS. To achieve these targets, managers provided in-depth information on their performance management program and interviews with four managers were conducted. The research found that the performance management program was not effective and therefore the company faced certain issues such as staff discontent, lack of training and high attrition rate. It was proposed that management review its performance management program before it becomes a debacle and make a few improvements, such as coaching managers in conflict management and offer more inherent incentives based on human resource efficiency and provide consistent feedback with positive criticism to encourage the workforce to perform better

This dissertation was qualitative in its research design and followed an interpretivist philosophy. The research population for this project consisted of professional archivists who work or have worked in Irish archival institutions. Exploratory sampling was used, and the research followed an inductive approach. A grounded theory research strategy was implemented for this research and semi-structured research interviews were employed for data collection. Data was then analysed using coding and thematic analysis. The results concurred with some of the existing literature written from an international perspective but also shed light on issues and points that were not present in the literature. Some of these may be unique to Irish archival institutions and warrant further investigation
