End of life et dignité de la vie : quoi choisir pour un biodroit à « visage humain » ? Le système juridique italien à la preuve du suicide médicalement assisté

    No full text
This article analyses the judgements (from the judg. 242/2019) by the Italian Constitutional Court about assistedsuicide, examining the ethical and legal issues related to the end-of-life, the important debate that has arisen at the biolegal and political level and among ordinary people, and also the implications for the italian legal system and in practice. Will it be possible to have a humanizing legal grammar and to implement a biolaw with a ‘human face’ in front of the end-of-life?

Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra in Italy: The Complexity of Domestication

    No full text
Over the centuries, playwrights have frequently manipulated Shakespeare’s plots to make them fit coeval audiences. The so-called “afterlife” of his canon provides the opportunity to infuse words with unprecedented meaning, often engaging with texts that are intricately connected to a particular time and cultural context. The Italian staging of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra can be considered as an interesting case study in this direction: never represented during the first half of the twentieth century, the tragedy was included in the repertoire of several companies from the 1950s onwards, sometimes altered in its content as well in its structure. By scrutinising the adaptations performed in the last 50 years, this paper aims to demonstrate how Italian directors such as Cobelli (1972), Missiroli (1982), Bruschetta (2001), Camerini (2010), Pascoe (2012), De Fusco (2013) and others have altered the First Folio’s text in order to allow the theatre to reflect upon life and its problems

Impact of selected second and third generation antipsychotics on cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders. Systematic review and network meta-analysis

    No full text
: Cognitive dysfunction is a core feature of schizophrenia spectrum disorders and a major determinant of functional outcomes. This study aimed to: (a) systematically review randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the cognitive effects of third-generation antipsychotics (TGAs: brexpiprazole, cariprazine, lumateperone, and lurasidone) and xanomeline-trospium; and (b) perform a network meta-analysis (NMA) including additional second-generation antipsychotics with potential procognitive effects. A systematic literature search identified eligible RCTs, which were combined with trials on aripiprazole, olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone, and ziprasidone from a previous meta-analysis. A frequentist NMA (random-effects model) was conducted using standardized mean differences (SMDs) in pre-post cognitive scores. Associations between cognitive outcomes, follow-up duration, and SMDs for psychotic symptoms were examined; metaregression controlled for age and psychosis severity. Fourteen RCTs (n = 2464) met the inclusion criteria. Lurasidone (Hedges' g = 0.46) and xanomeline (g = 0.30) outperformed placebo in improving global cognitive performance, whereas quetiapine (g = 0.64) and cariprazine (g = 0.20) had the most favorable impacts on attention. Cognitive SMDs were unrelated to follow-up duration or improvements in psychotic symptoms. Age and baseline psychosis severity did not influence cognitive response. In conclusion, selected second and TGAs, including M1/M4 receptor agonists such as xanomeline, may offer promising treatment options for cognitive dysfunction. Further research should personalize pharmacological strategies based on cognitive profiles

Unlocking the Power of Sankalpa in Yoga Nidra Practice: Cognitive Restructuring Processes and Suggestions for Athletes’ Health

    No full text
: This opinion article aims to highlight the potential mechanisms behind a specific stage of Yoga Nidra (YN) practice, i.e., the formulation and repetition of Sankalpa, encouraging scholars to further study it and providing athletes with suggestions on how to use it for their sport and health. YN can be defined as a meditation practice encompassing a sequence of breathing, guided body awareness, visualization and cognitive restructuring process exercises. According to preliminary results, YN stimulates a hypnagogic state generally associated with improvements in sleep parameters, thus enhancing recovery and health in different populations including athletes. Cognitive restructuring processes can be stimulated by the formulation of Sankalpa, a YN element comparable to positive self-instructions used to counteract dysfunctional cognitions. From a practical standpoint, the formulation of Sankalpa involves expressing an intention that could positively influence body, mind and emotions. For example, Sankalpa might stop or reverse unhealthy thought patterns, resulting in greater mental health. It might also foster intrinsic motivation and enhance emotional intelligence by strengthening mental resilience. In particular, athletes could use Sankalpa as an affirmation to awaken any strength they may feel is necessary to provide them with stress-recovery balance and mental health. However, additional research on this topic is needed to better elucidate Sankalpa's mechanisms/effects and better integrate its formulation into sport programs

L’articolo 37 della Carta dei diritti fondamentali dell’Ue: un impegno ambientale disatteso

    No full text
The European Union has enacted a comprehensive body of legislation aimed at protecting the natural environment. Each member State has transposed the EU directives and adapted their national laws to align with the guidelines set in Brussels. However, this rhetoric of sustainability does not consistently translate into local territorial policies. The gap between principles and practice is particularly evident in mountain regions, where the growing pressure from tourism and major sporting events contrasts with the geomorphological and landscape fragility of these areas: conditions that would require a form of protection that is both informed and non-negotiable with economic and political interests
